    Thank you so much for this video. My boyfriend dropped something heavy in the sink and left a massive hole in it. We need to replace it and this video covered EVERYTHING we needed. Much appreciation!

    thanks much for the video. my top is quartz. I have one of those big blue woodworking clamps that was used to hold the sink in place when waiting for the sink top glue to adhere to the bottom of the quartz top. Great point to install the new faucet first. The granite and quartz tops will outlive many of these porcelain sink bowls. Likely have to install another sink bowl replacement under this quartz top in 10 years

    For my sink, hot water then cold water cracked it. This happened after water heater temperature was set incorrect after service.
    To remove sink, use longer razor blades. I would be hesitant to use an oscillating saw to remove the sink as the oscillating may cause your granite to break. Use wood shims as you’re using the razor blade to break into existing adhesive. Sometimes you have to go full destruction and break the sink. I would leave longer sides and use them to rock off pieces intact, as the remnants will be left in the adhesive.
    Once the sink is out, the adhesive still needs to be cleared. The solvent you showed is good. There is also denatured alcohol, acetone, vinegar, isopropyl alcohol and a few others (wd-40 did not work for me). Make sure and read labels for precautions. It is important to get all the residue off as the new adhesive needs a clean substrate to adhere to.
    Use silicone sealant (100% silicone) to adhere sink to granite. Forget about the keepers for the reason you mentioned. I like silicone because if you ever had to remove the sink again, it will be easier to get through the silicone as opposed to construction adhesive.
    As for the fixture installation prior to placing the sink. One thing to consider is in the future, working with the fixture and making sure no adhesive gets on it or covers bolts that would potentially hinder removal or access to service without busting out the sink again.
    The paracord suspending the sink using a woodblock in conjunction with the vice was a neat idea. Having a helper is a good idea.
    Nice work!

    I just used this. Thanks. I hit that punch set hard and couldn’t get it started. Finally I took one medium-soft swing at the underside of the sink and it smashed right open! Your viewers may want to try that if the top-down approach wasn’t yielding the results they wanted.

    Good work. Only thing I would add is before you turn on the shut off valves take off the aerator.

      Great point, thanks! I guess I got lucky b/c there weren't any aerators on these fixtures lol!

      LOL.....I know that was a bit "unorthodox", but it's all I had on hand. I just needed something that would get the dust off of the mating surface and would dry quickly, so I could get back to work.....and........tada....adhesive remover!

    I have a marble vanity with a cracked sink. I'm concerned about breaking the thin area too, especially when marble isn't as durable as granite. Oh well. Center punch and hammer ready!

    A lot of videos but none on how to measure it.

    • @jonnydwolf
      @jonnydwolf Год назад

      If you mean finding center points, the curved and even rectangular sinks present the issue of measuring along a curved surface. Sometimes a t square is helpful. I made precision marks for my center-points, but even still, I had to make adjustments when finally setting sink. Most adhesives give you a little working time, but be careful and not make a mess.
