At 23 minutes Colbert was hit by 1 missile but you used the torpedo side of the counter instead of the missing side. By the way, after a detection, too, detecting ship only fires one missile or one torpedo. See the bottom of the flow chart.
In addition to the F-8 not being ASW, a quick research raises doubts about the Etendard IVP's Fighter functionality. The Etendard was more like an attack aircraft, and the IVP speciifically seems to have been a Recon variant.
Right, the early IVPs had no air-to-air armament (no guns for sure) but they did a later retrofit to add the ability to carry the R.550 Magic which was a heat-seeking missile similar to the AIM-9 Sidewinder, so it'd probably depend on which variant is being used.
@HexedAndCountered It's not so much about capability then about intended use. As far as I can see, the Etendard IV's air to air weapons were intended for self defence, the M variant being used in the strike "flotillas" and the P for Recon purposes only. The only carrier launched fighters France had were the Crusaders, fortunately not used for ASW ;-) For various reasons France procured the Crusader during the 60s and stuck with it until 1999 (the Rafale, like the F-35, being a bit late). Starting in the early 80s one may consider the French carriers almost defenceless against a capable enemy, the quality of their pilots would probably not have been enough to stand a chance against newer generations of fighters. Obviously, France avoided to talk too much about that state of affairs. I'm curious whether that is correctly represented In the game: the Soviet air force should be able to launch murderous attacks against the French carriers when not covered by land based fighters.
I agree that they'd have had trouble with land-based air attacks. There are a few variables that would need to be considered. Depending on where the carrier was operating, the Soviets might not have been able to bring land-based air power to bear (certain parts of the Atlantic for example). If NATO suspected they could (such as in the Med), they'd likely have put the Foch (or any French carrier) in a multinational task force that included another carrier (probably US, but maybe British) that did have aircraft capable of being a true CAP. To handle that in-game, you'd have to build your task force accordingly.
Yep....Unless the French did some really weird shit to it...but the airframe is not suitable, nor could it carry any asw ordnance or have any asw electronics or sonobouys. In it's day it was an excellent fighter, but was showing it's obsolescence by the 80's. Has to be a typo.
As already mentioned. Historically the F-8 should be the dedicated CAP and the Alizé would take the ASW duties (together with the Super Frelons). I would be very interested in a session with the American Taskforce I think the game author is more at home with that hardware and that the resulting gameplay should feel more authentic.
Echo sub has to surface to fire missiles. Treat as surface target. Even if not on card it is is fact. Info from Modern Naval Battles and other naval forces books. Another thing to fix.
At 1344, you had two unknown subs. You need to pull unknown sub counters because you do not actually pull a sub card for the submarine until it is a detected. It could be a neutral or no sub at all when you detect it and make your roll.
The Foch has the picture of HMS Ark Royal! (WTF????)
Yes, there are definitely some corrections needed to some of the cards. The Foch being one, but also the F-8 being usable as an ASW aircraft.
At 6:48 the picture do not represent the Foch. French CV do not have STOBAR as seen on the picture.
Hope we get to see you continue this campaign!
Finished watching. Nice victory and nice video, thank you.
Thanks - glad you enjoyed the video and good discussion on the Etendard too.
A very interesting game and some great components! My French isn't very good either! Thanks, Joe!

Thanks Nick!

Would be interesting to see where thus goes.Jeff Wilson in Bullhead City

Why does the F-8 say 'ASW'? A Crusader is about as far from an ASW aircraft as you can get!

I thought it was off too, but figured the carrier must have had something (like a helicopter most likely) that could attack subs, so I went with it.
Well, they were definitely fighters, eventually replaced by the Rafale. The French used the Alize as their fixed wing carrier ASW aircraft. Weird.
The Alize is in the game too. I just happened to grab the first "ASW" counter I saw. I would have to agree that it's a typo.

If you decide to reattack the target (which you did), you add an additional 2 Stress to the Carrier.
Thanks! Absolutely love this game so thanks times two, I guess!

Clearly some card corrections are needed.

Yes, you're correct and I know that. Just messed it up.
Echo should have to surface to fire so should be a turn delay or penalty modifier to fire.
