From the Archives good title
Like the new opening
Thank you!
I enjoyed your channel, your video are interesting and very informative. I prefer shorter video in the 30-40 mins range. However I have watch longer video on other channels if the game is interesting to me. Keep it up and good luck for 2025.
Thanks!
I like the idea of the reviews as it does help me make informed decisions about purchases, having your input will be valuable
Thanks, I'll try to live up to that!
Great channel! It has helped me learn games, especially the Leader Games. Thank you!
Appreciate the support - I'm always looking to make more videos that help people learn new games!
I like the new intro. I put your channel on an FB post that was asking about learning these games, so hopefully, that will get you some subscribers.
Thanks, that's awesome!
Good luck on reaching 5k! Hope more acw games find their way to your table this year! Thanks for all the hard work!
Thanks so much!
I will be playing sometime this year, Ottoman Sunset and Hapsburg Eclipse.
Hope you enjoy them!
Fun match!! Solid game for sure. And does come with tons of fighters.
Definitely.
Did you finish the game off camera? I'm sure you did. How did it end? Thanks for the playthrough.
I did. Lawrence did me in (and Maude was close); it was a close-run game.
20 second intro isn't too long to me. I watch both unboxing and play through. I find I don't watch many hour plus videos unless it is a game that I really, really like.
Same
That's exactly why I try not to go much over 30 minutes if possible. Not always possible, but I know it's a lot to ask someone to watch a gameplay video that's an hour or more.
"On the Shelf" sounds interesting!
Thanks Kevin!
I have been watching your channel now for well o er a year and have always enjoyed your content. I like what your are thinking about and I have only one comment or suggestion: I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE YOU AND AN OPPONENT PLAY A SMALL scenario or game or you make comments about a game as it either unfolds live OR an edited version later. This way one would see how a game is actually played between opponents. I know you play mostly solitaire, but I think most would enjoy this mode of learning game,
I appreciate the suggestion and it's definitely something I've considered. My only real opponent at the moment would be my son and he's away at college. So maybe this summer...
29:50...I don't believe the 12VG arty can move since it fired earlier in the turn, which sucks because it blocks every unit behind it.
Thanks!
28:45...not really a ZOC bond because both "posts" require 2 steps per unit. Not the case here.
Thanks!
I will defer to those interested in air wars, which I am not. Thanks for the posting though.
Thanks. This was actually an old post (from 2023) and I should probably remove it.
Thanks, the game arrived recently at my doorstep too, looking forward to getting it to the table soon😁
Looks like it'll be fun.
Thanks for this, Joe. This looks like a great game and I think I’ll be getting it as soon as I can. I love your new opening title sequence! Did you do it yourself? To go with your new opening video I think you also need a new series name to start the new year off right. I took the liberty of coming up with a suggestion you might like. The new name is: Hex Encountered! What do you think?
Glad you enjoyed the video - I did make the new intro. And the funny thing is that just the other day I was thinking I should have named the channel itself Hex Encountered! Great minds think alike. I am working on a "plans for 2025" video that might include a new series or two and that might make it in, if I can figure out a good theme for it. Thanks!
Maybe they can do TOTAL WAR: NAPOLEON as a board game, too!
That would be great.
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I think that you should pay 2 actions per each resource marker. It's not so easy to buy these markers😢
Thanks!
These look interesting but the price point for a one mapper and 440 counter count is too high. I see Vol 3 is 80 dollars but the first two and 100 dollars each and I believe they have the same components as far as the map and counters go. If they had gotten this to the 50 dollar range I would be all in but.... By comparison, Atlantic Wall costs 240 but has seven maps and ten times the counters.
I hear you. I bought this one on pre-order so it was a little less. The map's mounted and double-sided so that adds cost I'm sure.
paper maps would have been better
My grandmother grew up and lived in Arnswalde in Pomerania till February 1945. Then she fled as oldest of 5 girls with two of her sisters to Dortmund, ruhr area, where the family of her husband, my grandfather , which fought in the Wehrmacht at this time on the east front, lived. One year later her mother moved with the other two daughters to Dortmund, too. Her father was killed as civilian during the fights around Arnswalde. In 1991 my mother traveled with my grandmother as present for her 70. birthday for the first and last time to her old "Heimat". So this game is a personal must buy.
Great story - thank you for sharing!
Thank you, from Australia. You sound a little bit like Mark Herman. 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video! Mark Herman and I are from the same area, so it's probably that NYC accent you're hearing.
Thanks for the video. I was at my FLGS today and they had this game on the New Arrivals shelf. I hadn’t heard of it before. The back of the box said it was solo, which I am enjoying at the moment. It seems like an interesting premise for a game that has me on BGG. I am looking forward to the rest of your videos.
Thanks!
Thank you for the video. I am interested in buying this game and this was a great demonstration of how the game works. Thanks again.
Glad to help. It's a fun one.
Yes. A good game.
Hope to see more of this Joe. Great videos
Thanks!
You had an M2 morale check and said it modified the die roll. I thought that reduced the units morale by 2. I only have 1sr addition Airborne so checking to see if there was a rule change with 2nd ed. Thanks
I think you're right and I forgot how that rule worked.
This in on my purchase list. I had it in my hands last year but passed it over for Salerno 43, only because my gift card made Salerno free. Should have used the card to reduce the price on this one instead. Lesson learned
I can relate. Limited funds and lots of enticing games...
You picked it up latter in the game.
I think you forgot to do the Kaiserkreig battle on each turn.
EA: Kharkov is such an amazing game. So far I've just played two player but I look forward to trying solo one day.
Agree completely - a great game. Solo system is fantastic, but there is a learning curve for sure.
Hi Joe, I'm just getting into wargaming, and I have cats and not a lot of space to leave games set up, so I'm thinking magazine games might be a good fit for me. Plus, my main historical interest is WW2, so I'd probably have lots of options. I enjoy your channel and I appreciate you doing these magazine game videos. If you have any particular favorite magazines and/or issues, I'd love to know what they are. Thanks, Joe! -Greg
Hi Greg - thanks for watching! There are a lot of great magazine games out there. My personal favorite in WW2 is probably C3i issue #34 which features Trevor Bender's Battle of Kursk. Good system, not overly complex and not too many counters. Plus it has top-notch quality components and a bunch of great articles too. Here's a link: c3iopscenter.com/rbm-studio-store/C3i-Magazine-Nr-34-p266463296 Since you're just getting into wargaming and you have cats, I would also recommend looking into Decision Games' mini and maybe folio series. They're inexpensive, easy to learn, have a small footprint and in the case of the minis can easily be played in an hour or two (the folios are bigger a little more involved). They cover WW2 and a whole lot more. Here's a link for the Mini series: shop.decisiongames.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=84 Welcome to the world of wargaming! I hope you find it as compelling & enjoyable as I do!
@HexedAndCountered Thanks for the great tips, Joe!
Good afternoon.
Afternoon! Thanks for watching.
I gotta know just how it ends Please! Thank you
Too bad 4 hex vision means nothing. Russians know there are aircraft on thr field without seeing them..?
They likely did know. This is based on a historical situation and to assume the Soviets - who had air superiority by this time - did not know the location of operational German airfields would seem wrong to me.
Again this stop just out of range is NOT Soviet Doctrine and nit picky game play..NOT LIKING this system so far.
I'm playing it as a competitive player would. The tanks can't fire with riders anyway, and have better range than the infantry. To me it makes sense to dismount in a safe area and assault from there when both the infantry and the armor can fire. If you watched the whole video you will see that I did in fact assault those buildings.
Disappointed you did not comment on my observations part 1. Part 2 probably as well
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say in response. I didn't design the game, I just play it so people can see it and make their own decisions. You've obviously done that. I'm not going to try to refute what you say. As I said - I didn't design the game and I play within the rules as written by the designer. I think it is a good system; you don't. I say we agree to disagree. But I'll play along and reply to your points though I stress I am not interested in an argument. I will just say what I think the design was trying to do, or my thoughts for doing it a certain way. Doesn't mean I'm right, just how I see it.
The 20mm in this scenario counter shows an anti aircraft quad 20mm deadly to infantry but not AT gun
Fair enough. It also gets 1 shot per turn. I would prefer to have it take a higher percentage shot than firing mostly blind at the edge of visibility range using engine noise as a gauge which would certainly drown out any noise the infantry might be making.
Please finish. You are so close to done.
Thanks. Not certain I will have time, but I'll consider it.
Thanks for the content, I am thinking about getting this game with the solo expansion, do you think the solo mode for this is good? Any other games similar to this one you recommend? Thanks Carlos
The solo mode is very good. The only possible issue with it is that there aren't more scenarios for it. I would recommend the other games in the system: '65 and Night of Man.
I would definitely like to see you continue this to its conclusion. Great stuff, I look forward to your videos!
Thanks!
👍👍
Somethings wrong, game unrealistic and broken, there would be continusl fire with a 20mm that would rip to shreds thevinfantry and possible damage or kill tank crews or tanks that they could see..easy meat sacks
Possibly, if they could see them. Even though visibility goes out four hexes, there's a penalty for firing at night. They'd also likely run out of ammunition spraying fire all over the place. This was 1945, the Wehrmacht was down to bare bones by then.
Why arent thre germans firing at infantry before or as they dismount?
Infantry wouldn't hit them (10% chance) and the 20mm has one shot per turn (and would also likely have a low chance at four hex range).
Hope this hame isnt broken
Well, I now know what you think given your other comments.
Frussians should not just stop prior to ranges, doctrine for soviets were to attack..attack to take terrain, not stop prior to enemy reaction..
They do attack, in part two, and make good headway.
Thought you said visibility was 4chexes
It is. Range of the infantry's weapons is effectively two hexes.
Note that the third edition contains some egregious misprints that affect gameplay and point to pretty shoddy QA. : ( I ended up getting a refund because of the multiple QA issues, but if you're going to play this edition, I believe the publisher offers correction stickers. It didn't look like they were included in your copy (or maybe I just missed where you showed them), but if you didn't get the correction stickers for the errors, be sure to contact the publisher!
Thanks. I'm aware of the missing flag for Jerusalem and the misspelling of Jidda. I did not have stickers in the box.
