      I think it’s because it raises the noise floor, I heard that as well, it’s interesting because my output(volume) knob on my Zoom UAC 232 was really low!! Like super low, to the point where there could be feedback of if I turned it up to a certain point. But that Interface has so much gain, that I don’t think I should even use the preamp which I believe is what caused the noise. I’ll have to play with it to get the best sound.

    This mic is a clear discrepancy of what consumer actually want vs what brands wants and what brands thought consumers want:
    1) Brand thought with so many podcast using the SM7B, if they add the Shure logo, it will be free advertising for them. The only reason I'm not buying 6 of the SM7dB and bought 6 Lauten Audio LS-208 is purely because of the logo that Shure added. If I don't use it hang down, the logo will be upside down unless I open the screw and rotate it and screw it back.
    2) They beauty of the SM7B is how subtle it was, the black plate makes it look so clean, now they no longer gives you the back plate
    3) It's nice that they make the switch easier to access, but what's the point if no one even uses the switches in the first place?
    4) Build in Pre-amp 5 years too late, now entry level audio interfaces already have 69 db of gain like the latest generation Scarlett, 76 db of gain with the Rodecaster pro II/duo, 80 db of gain with mackie DLZ creator. How about studios? People will studio already have preamp like the 1073 which already have more than enough gain to power the SM7B.
    5) The mic color (shiny) and proportion just looks wrong and camera, the elongated design with the taper, just make the mic looks weird, the original SM7B already look perfect, why mess with that?
    6)Here's what people actually want, we want the next generation of SM7B
    -Better sound so we can upgrade our current SM7B to the next generation SM7C. Maybe neodymium magnet? Improved capsule? Better internals? Lower nice floor?
    -The wire coming out from the side, we want it to be internal so it will look cleaner on camera
    -Better yok mount so it's easier to screw
    -Built in wire mesh pop filter inside the cage for the capsule, perhaps something like the JZ-PF pop filter
    -We want the rest to be the same, because of the MAYA effect - Most Advanced, Yet Acceptable - To sell something familiar, you must make it surprising and to sell something surprising, you must make it familiar.

    Do you still need a Cloudlifter to use it?

    • @CoZChristopher
      @CoZChristopher  Год назад +2

      Not on this new one, the SM7dB. It has a built in Pre-Amp that powers it internally to give you the gain you need. I believe they licensed the Lifter technology from cloud to build the Iinternal preamp

    I will be respectful. Tbh it feels like your title is clickbait. The microphone just came out. Respect your audience as they respect you.

    • @CoZChristopher
      @CoZChristopher  Год назад +1

      I respect your opinion, but I don’t share your view. I also am slightly offended by your assumption without watching any of my other videos to confirm that I disrespect my audience. I am very transparent consistently with my audience, I invite you to watch more to validate that statement. If you were actually part of the audience you would know this. But, I hope you take the time to validate your assumption.
      In regard to this microphone. The story I tell of the SM7/a/b/db is the validation of this microphone being underrated. The mere fact the majority of content creation thinks this is a “streaming” microphone is a small token of why it is underrated. This is a storied microphone by an established brand in audio technology and yet on launch day there were more videos about the Logitech GX and Logitech Orb than this, this being a 50yr established COE(center of excellence). This would tell you that popular opinion does not see this for what it is within the creator space that I operate. The SM7b for 15+ years has been in the space and yet this has not been covered by “major influencers.” People are vastly unaware of its full potential or history. Metallica, The Beatles, Avenge Sevenfold, Michael Jackson, have recorded historic works on this microphone, yes this release is new, but it is an update to an original SM7 and not an entirely new release. It is the same original sound signature with improvements, SM7a added a Hum bucking Coil to reduce interference, SM7b added better sound isolation, and this one added a Preamp to remove additional points of failure and added cost, but it is the same microphone just like the iPhone 15 is still an iPhone not an iPhone fold, but an upgraded model.
      I mentioned in the video people would overlook this microphone because it is a re-release and that is true as there is very little content on this microphone vs it’s output ability. It is also seen within the content creation industry as a “hyped” or “trend” microphone.
      In this video you will hear a perspective of music industry knowledge, product knowledge, historical data and review experience in regard to this product told in a casual discussion. My perspective is consistent throughout the discussion on why this is overlooked and what it brings to the table. With that said, it’s first impression and not an in depth review. It’s a discussion with “my audience” and even covering how this is a “budget” mic is inline with the thought process that it is underrated!
      In conclusion, I take offense to your accusation, but I respect your opinion. Although, I wish you would watch more content and be part of the audience to make the accusation and share your opinion based on experience, knowledge and historical data like I shared my opinion on this video while making the same statements in my video as I did the title.

      @@CoZChristopher First and foremost, I give you props for respecting and confronting criticism in your channel. I, however, hold on to my opinion. Based on your argument, the title should have used the word SM7 and not SM7dB. In regards to the "hype" argument I also disagree. I've seen a lot of comments requesting this change for years. I don't think anyone was glad for having to buy a cloud lifter after buying a microphone. Also, I would argue that in no way is this an underrated microphone in any capacity. Its been used in multiple forms and people know this and I mean millions of people know this. If this was the RE20, I would agree but the SM7, please. However, I will agree and respect your argument, not your title, given that all of this is a matter of opinion.

      @@LuisLopez-pb9yt At the end of the day, my channel is an open forum for dialogue. Even if we disagree starkly, I still welcome the chat and enjoy the interactions, especially when it is respectful in nature! Cheers sir, I can see that I have failed to share my point that it is not about how many people know of the product, but how many people know of the product beyond the popularity. What it's really capable of "technically" not just that "everyone uses it." However, I changed the title to avoid any confusion, hopefully I am able to better articulate my thoughts in the 2 week or 1 month check in video!! Cheers mate :)
