This video had the potential to be fantastic, but it's quite challenging to follow. The main issue is the lack of clear labeling for which mic is real and which is fake. The positions of the real and fake mics change from clip to clip, making it confusing. I appreciate the effort you put into making this video, as it takes a lot of work. However, please visually label the mics in future videos so viewers can easily spot the differences. Thank you!
I bought mine 2 years ago from a random website, after watching your video i decided to disassembled mine and comparing the pieces looks spot on with the real sm7b, always had a doubt so .. thanks for the help!
got a fake SM58 from a guy the other day. Said it was real.. some checks said its fake! Reported it to paypal and the guy pretty much instantly gave a full refund for the purchase.
You should be fine as long as your buying directly from Amazon and not a third party seller. Just make sure it says ships and sold by Amazon and it will be legitimate.
Depends where you buy your "fake" sm7b. i did a side by side comparison and there was no difference. Build quality was the same, felt the same, for 140€ (with shipping from US). Ofc its not right to support fake shops & suppliers but some of us dont have the oportunity to spend 400€ on a mic. Its still not right, but i and many others dgaf about where my mic comes from if it has a good quality.
Your video got a little confusing with the label of real and fake around the 6:00 part of the video. So is the one with the yellow and green wires the legit sm7b???
what do you mean by the fakes dont work with phantom power? the sm7b does not use phantom power/its not good for dynamic mics as far as I know and if i use a dynamite preamp it doesnt pass the 48 volts to it anyway so im a little confused about what you mean there
Your kitty really gives a gentle and cool touch for the vid! :) btw on my KRK RP7 G4 the fake sm7b sounds more harsh and the "S" sounds are more audible.
Hello, boght a preowned SN7B and i've gone threw all your devices and i have a question:on the bottom of the xlr plugin is written SHURE. Maybe also a Difference between fake and original?
I got a fake recently that was so convincing. Every detail and I mean everything was exact except the paint was just slightly rougher and the foam was slightly lighter color. So close that I was about to consider those changes as typical tolerance from Shure. Same weight to the gram. I was 100% convinced till I compared the sound of the mic, the counterfeit was more open and the low end was much leaner. Compared the counterfeit to an SM7b I purchased from Sweetwater. Got it from an ebayer with many positive reviews from happy SM7b buyers. I'll never buy a SM7b again unless from a reputable store. Without the comparison I'd have no clue. I'm actually baffled someone would copy so carefully. I'm still wondering if Shure changed their mic sound it was such a good copy.
I even think the fake one sounds acceptable for my budget. Where did you get it? I would be glad to start with something like this,it also looks more professional than my lav mike
Got mine from Guitar Center yesterday. Opened today and saw the seal was already cut. Looks like maybe someone returned it? Not going to lie... the sound is oddly muddy/muffled. Maybe I'm just used to my Zoom H4n? With the rare case of someone swapping their fake out for it and returning to Guitar Center.. I might take it back.
Thanks for the video. There’s enough in here that I’m fairly confident mine is genuine after doing some disassembly. Audio interface hasn’t arrived yet so it’s nice to have some early assurance.
Ok so basically I recommend not buying the Fake sm7b because The fake sm7b is sounding harsh on the top end just like any 25 to 30-dollar mic would sound. I have an sm58 and a 30 dollar Behringer ba85a and the main difference between my sm58 vs behringer mic is the top end the sm58 top end is very smooth and silky just like the sm7b and the Behringer mic top end is harsh just like the fake sm7b. Now if you still wanna buy the look of an sm7b than make sure to use a de esser to tame some of that harshness
Do you keep the real one on the left and fake one on the right the entire time? I'm getting lost trying to compare mine. Edit: I got burned on eBay thought I was saving a few bucks and got a fake one
Yeah, the one that I got that came from China ended up being a fake.. It was a really good fake but you could hear it in the audio recordings for sure.
Seems to me that China is on their way to giving us the same exact mic for a 1/4 of the price. If they master the Unidyne iii capsule, I'm not shure it will be worth it to buy a real one. If you want to keep your design to yourself, never have anything made in China.
Can somebody help, I opened up to look at my wires in my shure sm57 does opening it up pose any risk to the sound quality? Can someone explain what are the wires for ?
barely every item on aliexpress is fake, but bro u better save some money for the real one, in the long run it'll be better i promise you (as a person who works with sound)
Cringed when you let the cat knock them over.... and again... and again... You know that's not good for the internal circuitry and especially the diaphragm! Unlike good mics used in shows that can take a beating (somewhat) Mics like this are a lot higher risk for damage. Cute cat though.
At 1:00, the left one looks fake: no Registered logo, button cheaply done and even material and screws look cheaper. Are you sure, you didn't mix up the labels because it's upside down?
you'd better of with a rode podmic or rode NT. At least you get a very good sounding mic from a reputable company with warranty than giving your money for a fake mic that won't last you a long time.

Being able to register a fake mic on an official shure website is absolutely nuts! How the heck do they manage to do that?
I have a feeling they have the serial number for one or a few genuine Shure mics and are selling the fakes with the real serial number(s)
got a fake SM58 from a guy the other day. Said it was real.. some checks said its fake! Reported it to paypal and the guy pretty much instantly gave a full refund for the purchase.

How can I send mine to Shure to evaluate if it's original too?
@@keisell4337 You just make it up like the guy up there - why would someone send a mic to shure unless it's for repair?

the transformer is not in circuit on the fake mic, you can measure that with a multimeter.
