HI loves!! The nails on my right hand are almost 5 weeks old and there's no lifting because of the overlay method! My next video will show you how to remove these and do a new set
for anyone wondering, SEASON YOUR MANDRILL (sanding) BITS!!! By that i mean, run both sides of it on a nail file to soften it. That way you won’t be able to cut yourself while using it. I’ve been self teaching myself and learning videos like these for years and it was one of the first things i learned since i kept ending up with cuts and scratches from the bit
This video is amazing. I did my nails recently with the gel overlay method and instead of using the glue gel, I use builder gel to overlay. I find that the builder gel gives the nails more structure since the viscosity of the formula is thicker and is meant to be used to buildup strength. You have to try using the builder overlay method, I think you will love it!!
Ooo thanks for sharing I will definitely try! Does the overall extension look thick from the builder gel + the design on top + top coat? thats the only thing I am worried about!
The only issue with using builder gel is that it doesn't soak off, you have to file it. If you don't mind that, then yeah, it's a pretty good method. 😊
i’ve been doing the overlay method the last two months and my nails last soooo much longer and they still look super seamless after two weeks with designs that leave the cuticle area open! in the past i could never seal the cuticle on my gel extensions as well as they should be, so the thickness at the base of the extension would be prone to lifting especially since i’m a hairdresser. i used to do my nails every week since they would start popping off but since doing the overlay method, i haven’t experienced any lifting and only re-do my nails every two weeks so i can change the design :) it’s a little more time consuming though so hopefully your tips will help speed up my application time 😊 amazing video thank you for sharing your experience and advice with us 🫶
OMG thats so nice to hear!! Im so excited to see my nails grow out 😍 and YES the nails get so chunky without sealing the cuticle and doing the overlay method is so much easier because when I try to seal the cuticle I get scared I might hurt my cuticles since its so close to it. Thanks for watching megan!! so happy for you :)
I always had Russian gel manicure done for years and never did my own nails, but because it got so expensive I decided to do it myself. Your TikToks n videos are SO helpful, literally bought everything from your Amazon storefront and started doing nails myself. It’s been so helpful. I def need more practice but I’m already able to do it so well that I’m mad over how much money went to waste over doing nails at the salon all these years. Biggest struggles are definitely doing designs on my right hand, and also putting extensions on properly with the right amount of nail glue. I feel like I always end up kinda having to clean the cuticle edges a bit and while I’m doing it, the fake nail and nail glue end up moving and lose their proper position. Love your videos!
Idk if this is helpful but nail stickers could be your new best friend. I also try and do my right nails first which helps you get more comfortable with your other hand since it's always prepped first
yay i’ll need to try the overlay method! i was feeling a little discouraged but this has inspired me to try again! I think it would also help me fight the urge to pick at my extensions bc there wouldn’t be as much to pick at as it is more seamless
Wow my mouth dropped open because you knew all the secrets!! Like applying the tip farther up the cuticle, etching with an e-file, prefiling the tips. and YES I live and die by Young Nails Protein bond, they just had a bogo sale on it! Also for the longest nail retention possible I highly recommend using a rubber base gel underneath the nail glue! Never lost a nail since!
Omg I may just have to try the overlay method! And you’re so right about the beetles top coat, I find that it’s still is sticky even after curing it. Definitely adding the top coat to my Amazon cart! Thank you for all the great tips! 💗💅🏽
Lmk how you like it! It’s so easy to do and makes the nails look amazing and the you’ll loveeee the top coat! It feels like such good quality 😍 thanks for watching :)
I came back to say that I did my nails following your tutorial for the overlay method on April 5, 2023. Fast forward to today May 17, 2023 and two fill ins later lol. No lifting and my nails look soo seamless. I’m going to soak this set off and do a new set but yea thank you for this. I will not being doing my nails any other way from now on. I had most of the things needed at home but definitely bought somethings you mentioned off Amazon ❤️❤️
This a great tutorial video. I enjoyed every minute of it. I’m still in the learning phase of doing my own nails and I watch a lot of “ how to” nail applications videos ( sometimes to many) and I must say this one here is amazing!! I’m looking forward to trying the overlay method. Thanks a bunch for sharing this technique. Keep up the great work 🌺
This is so helpful for a first-timer!!! Can't wait to try this all out for the first time tomorrow :) I have two questions: 1. How thin/thick should the glue/base layer be on the natural nail? 2. How do you get rid of excess glue that spilled out underneath the extension? Thanks!
I like to use a thin layer! And if there is any gel that spills out underneath and it hasnt cured fully you can wipe it off with a brush dipped in acetone but if it has cured then you might have to use a nail drill to remove
I didn’t know you could use regular peel off (non- gel). I have this one and will try it. I bought the jello one. Thanks for all the good info. I am ready to try extensions because I need more nail-estate for my beautiful polish.
Thank you soooo much! I followed your gel x long lasting method and they look so real! This is only the second time using gel x and I’m so glad I found your video!!! xoxo
@@Michellekhxn for sure! So I’m not sure why or where I went wrong but my nails came out bad. I’m not sure if I used too much gel because they were super thick, they wrinkled, felt heavy and the gel didn’t cure all the way. It was still sticky even after wiping the nails with alchohol. I also had one nail that was lifted after curing it wasn’t attached to the end of my natural nail. I took them off the next day I wanted to try again but my natural nails are damaged most likely because I had to peel some layers off.
Thank you so much, I just subscribed. Things have changed so much since I went to beauty school many years ago. I'm going to check out your links and do my nails ❤
I've found that instead of etching the nail tip with a file, use acetone instead, it works like a liquid etch and leaves no dust. Just wet a gel brush with some acetone and scrub at the nail tip until the acetone dries out. If you still want to file it, i saw a tip today to take a sanding band and attaching it to a nail tool like a file or cuticle pusher so you can get inside the nail much easier
This video was so helpful!!!! I just had a terrible experience at a nail salon- really wanting to try and start doing my own nails. Thank you so much for the awesome vid!!!!!!❤

I get scared using my drill around my cuticle area too, but I’ve been seeing techs use a flat brush and acetone to melt the tip a little near the cuticle!
I love the video! Jounail is one of my favorite RUclipsrs. Very informative video! I follow you on all platforms so I’d love to see more BTS stuff other just nails. Have a good day.
Hi, I hope you can help me figure out which Gel X nails to use for my wide and flat nail beds, as I like my nails medium or long length. I am also hoping that this method of doing my nails will work for me as I struggle doing acrylic nails and it takes me way too long to do polygel nails. Thank you so much!
my nails lift after about a week, and my hair will get stuck between the extension and my nail! I think I do flood my cuticles w gel but hopefully this method will help!
Hi Michelle! I really love your videos and have decided to order my first kit ever! :D However, I'm kind of confused; I like half tips better, and was wondering if I need something else, like builder gel, or if I just do the same as you do with full tips? The kit I've been looking at doesn't have the glue bottle, so that's why I'm asking. Thank you so much, Hugs
Hi love!! Thanks so much! I thnk half tips are used for acrylic and im using full cover nails here to achieve gel extensions which are using full cover nails with gel
@@Michellekhxn Thank you for the response!! I just really prefer working with the "half" tips. But I was wondering if you know: does the base gel from beetles fo on before gluing the "half" tips on or after? I'm kinda confused haha
I personally havent, but I always make sure to not leave gel on my skin! I have made a video on tiktok and instagram on this and recommend people trying to do press ons instead of gel with gel x if they have this issue!
would you recommend me to wait for the UV gel lamp? cause I don't have a lamp for my GEL X. or I was considering getting this so I can use it to cure and also for polish. I love your video! Love from Italy🥰 my question is: can I skip the russian dry manicure to prep the nails with the drills etc? Because my nails are really fragile
its been 2 weeks since I filmed that video and they look amazing! I will post a video on my instagram story to show everyone how well they are growing out
Hey Michelle 🙂 just wanted to ask which brand of gel cover tips is better quality and is better for flat nail beds? Beetles or gelike? I can't seem to find the gelike I only am directed to the new gelike ec nails😕
thank you for this video!! i did want to ask, where did you get the squirty nozzle for the acetone? i worry about getting any ol one since acetone can melt plastic
i luvvv ur videos!! but i have one question: do you need to use gel polish or can you use regular nail polish on top of the gel extensions? ( if that makes sense 😅)
So is there a difference between their nail glue and their base gel? I saw the note you said ab their nail glue but I wasn’t sure how different that was to their base gel longevity wise
yes there is! the nail glue is the gel to attach the nails and their base gel is a base coat with a thinner consistency. Some people use it to attach the nails, but in my experience its too runny for me to put on my nails properly, the nail glue is thicker and easier for me to use!
I have a question. Can you do gel x nails without having the small lamps? Can you just use a regular led lamp but cure it for longer? I’m new to doing this stuff and I only have a regular lamp. ❤
you can but since the big lamp has walls its likely to mess up the application because its hard to avoid the walls and flash cure quickly :( but lmk if it works out for you!
its called nail glue but its gel! its thicker than a base coat gel making it easier to maneuver. if I applied the extensions with base coat it would seep out easier since its so thin!
From my experience instead of the peel off base it is possivle to use just gel base. Idk why but it is literally popping off from my nails on like second day. Leaves bare nails wirh nothing on it(beetles base from base+top coat set and i use beetles pre-sanded medium oval/almond set of tips) Without the base coat on my natural nail and just the gel tip+design on it my manicure is now holding up to 3.5 weeks abd i usually make a change of design on second week(i hand-file down my current one and work on top of it)
Hi! I followed along with this tutorial but for some reason the nails still seem sticky? Any advice? We used the same lamp as the one in the video- so not sure what went wrong
no the peel off base makes my nails last a couple days to a week depending on how much i use! the prep items I used on my right hand is what lasts a long time especially with the gel overlay method. My nails are almost 5 weeks old with this method and there is no lifting
I'm Always getting air bubbles because the nail extensions are so curved that the glue doesn't attach to the nail bed. Also even if i put enough glue it's challenging when i want to put it under the mini lamp.
If i use the peel off gel for my press ons, would i still be able to reuse them once i take them off? I’m imagining it’s the same as using nail glue stickers but just in a different form(?) but i’m scared i can’t reuse my press ons anymore to try it first 😂
I JUST realized the little cover for the nail cutter is to keep them from flying everywhere!! Girl when i tell you I’ve been finding them EVERYWHERE in my house for months😭😭 im so embarrassed
A good rule of thumb is to coat the underside of the extension with gel that is the same length as your natural nail and then add a little extra at the bottom to fill in the rest! it will be easier with practice
HI loves!! The nails on my right hand are almost 5 weeks old and there's no lifting because of the overlay method! My next video will show you how to remove these and do a new set

However, I'm kind of confused; I like half tips better, and was wondering if I need something else, like builder gel, or if I just do the same as you do with full tips? The kit I've been looking at doesn't have the glue bottle, so that's why I'm asking. Thank you so much,
Hugs
Could you do a video about how to apply nail tips also using builder gel as the form of the nail instead of acrylic?
Ive tried builder gel on natural nails on my IG and Tiktok! But id love to do a full video on that on youtube
@@Michellekhxn thank you, have you tried using builder gel with nail tips that’s would be very helpful to.
Hey love, I’m just curious but throughout all of this, have you developed any gel allergy? Please make a video on this!
I personally havent, but I always make sure to not leave gel on my skin! I have made a video on tiktok and instagram on this and recommend people trying to do press ons instead of gel with gel x if they have this issue!
Love thiss
thank you so much!!
Solid gel for tips with an apex, and safety bits keep you from cutting the skin❤
would you recommend me to wait for the UV gel lamp? cause I don't have a lamp for my GEL X. or I was considering getting this so I can use it to cure and also for polish. Modelones 2023 Newest UV LED Nail Lamp, UV Light for Gel Nails, Goose Neck UV Lamp for Nails, 48W Nail Dryer for Gel Nail Polish, Cute Meow UV Nail Light with 3 Timers, USB Nail Lamp for Fast Curing
Hey lovely. Can you share the name of the LeChat polish you use. It’s beautiful. ❤
Yes love! its the shade paloma and its linked on my description box
Do you work with acrylic or just gel???
Cool vid
how long do you leave your nails under the uv light for after you put the gel polish on?
It usually only needs 30 seconds, darker colours (black, dark browns, dark blues) need thin layers and 60 seconds. Hope this helps
at least 30 seconds!
I love your video! Love from Italy🥰 my question is: can I skip the russian dry manicure to prep the nails with the drills etc? Because my nails are really fragile
ive seen alot of people do that, just make sure to be very careful!
How well did the overlay method work? I’m thinking about trying it
its been 2 weeks since I filmed that video and they look amazing!
I love gelike for flat nails like mine! Beetles does have less curved options but the gelike ones are the best for flat
@@Michellekhxn thank you for responding 🙂
thank you for this video!! i did want to ask, where did you get the squirty nozzle for the acetone? i worry about getting any ol one since acetone can melt plastic
I got the twist top nozzle from another bottle but I think you can find some on amazon and transfer it to that bottle to make it easier
i luvvv ur videos!! but i have one question: do you need to use gel polish or can you use regular nail polish on top of the gel extensions?
( if that makes sense 😅)
You can definitely use normal polish! I just like gel because it lasts so long :)
Okay. Silly question. Can you buy the extensions and use normal glue with them or do you have to buy these extensions and use gel?
yes you can definitely use nail glue! i just posted a video using nail glue on my IG instagram.com/p/CoYUb6VjkWD/?hl=en
Me gusta mucho muchísimo y de masíado más quiero más
Hi can i ask hehe.. what gel do you use to apply the extensions (the one you put on your nail and on the extension)? Is it a base coat gel? Thankyou!❤
its called nail glue but its gel! its thicker than a base coat gel making it easier to maneuver. if I applied the extensions with base coat it would seep out easier since its so thin!
@@Michellekhxn oo i see, okay! Thank you so much!! I love your videos🥹♥️
Did you include the link for the other flash cure nail lamp? I don’t see it, please let me now where I can buy it! Thank you x
Oops!! adding it now thanks for that! 💗
From my experience instead of the peel off base it is possivle to use just gel base. Idk why but it is literally popping off from my nails on like second day. Leaves bare nails wirh nothing on it(beetles base from base+top coat set and i use beetles pre-sanded medium oval/almond set of tips)
Without the base coat on my natural nail and just the gel tip+design on it my manicure is now holding up to 3.5 weeks abd i usually make a change of design on second week(i hand-file down my current one and work on top of it)
Hi! I followed along with this tutorial but for some reason the nails still seem sticky? Any advice?
We used the same lamp as the one in the video- so not sure what went wrong
some gel top coats leave a sticky layer even after curing, just use an alcohol wipe to remove the stickiness after curing
So on the gel overlay method are you using the nail “glue” as the base gel?
yes exactly!
@@Michellekhxn when you add gel polish you don’t need to buff the nails to apply color right??
So even tho you used the peel off base coat it will last 3 weeks?
no the peel off base makes my nails last a couple days to a week depending on how much i use! the prep items I used on my right hand is what lasts a long time especially with the gel overlay method. My nails are almost 5 weeks old with this method and there is no lifting
I'm Always getting air bubbles because the nail extensions are so curved that the glue doesn't attach to the nail bed.
Also even if i put enough glue it's challenging when i want to put it under the mini lamp.
Yes exactly!! Using extensions that are less curved is way easier
The gloves is really a good idea because the lamp can be so drying on skin
I like to say its better safe than sorry!!
Mine keep falling off and are easy to pull off. How do I make them stronger?
Definitely try out the overlay method! Itll make them really stuck
The nails on my thumbs always pop off the day after application😭any tips? I always try to apply a new nail, but it always come off too.
If i use the peel off gel for my press ons, would i still be able to reuse them once i take them off? I’m imagining it’s the same as using nail glue stickers but just in a different form(?) but i’m scared i can’t reuse my press ons anymore to try it first 😂
Yes exactly! You would be able to pop them off and then attach them again with nail glue or nail stickers :)
I JUST realized the little cover for the nail cutter is to keep them from flying everywhere!! Girl when i tell you I’ve been finding them EVERYWHERE in my house for months😭😭 im so embarrassed
YES!! it catches them all
That brand cuticle softener stings my skin!
I notice my nails stay on A LOT longer when I glue the nail away from the cuticle and overlay!
same here!! My nails have grown out for more than 3 weeks and they are still not lifting
Get acid primer and nails will never come off re: lifting
I agree!
My issue is I have no idea how much gel to use. I can’t tell.
A good rule of thumb is to coat the underside of the extension with gel that is the same length as your natural nail and then add a little extra at the bottom to fill in the rest! it will be easier with practice
early!
