  • We update the oil pressure release valve on our Porsche Boxster 986. The 997 part has better low rpm oil flow and may help engine noises on startup. Torque specs are in video.
It is a very easy and low cost upgrade and you get better low RPM oil pressure. The new piston also has a bevel on its upper edge and the spring is slightly longer.
Pressure results from a Facebook group member: Before 1-1.2 bar, after 1.5-1.8 bar. Hopefully that helps.
    Parts list:
    Piston 99710712501
    Spring 99610712753
    Crush washer 99610712350
    Engine oil

Thanks for this, seems almost too good to be true, so simple! Definitely putting this on the list to do at the next oil change.

Hi excellent idea and very reasonable price in parts from pelican parts to Australia about $70AUSD

Way cheaper to get them from a dealer here in Australia. Remember we get a discount because of the age of these cars.

@@Barrabuoy ask the parts guy about the Classica discount. It is a discount on parts and workshop time as well. Australian dollar prices from Porsche Gold Coast. Crush washer $1.33, spring $21.89, piston $14.23. I also got an updated oil filter housing with the valve in it, $40 including filter pn 99610702055. I have a video on the going up in a few days.

Great video :) Is the torque really to be 50nm for the bolt. In a renntech thread someone wrote that it should be only 25 nm.

I have a noise that sounds like "docka-docka-docka" as the chain tensioner builds up pressure, then the nose stops after a second or 3. I’ve had these changed the tensioners, but still get this noise (but less so). Will this ‘upgrade’ help to cure this particular cold start noise?

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  6 месяцев назад

I would defiantly replace it on your next oil change. It won't hurt to have better oil pressure on start up even if it doesn't fix the noise.

    Hi
Can you tell me if these parts you list are ok for my 2002 Boxster S ?
I looked on a porsche site and they say the piston is for 997 and other Caymens but mention nothing about a 986 in any variants. So i take it they must all be same sizes.
    Thanks
