One of my absolute favorite drummers. I play along with him through his music on my drum set and really haved learned alot from him and that killer original guitarist. Fantastic drummer.
Side Effects u must be young and naive to have that mindset ... drumming is one of the more meticulous instruments that involves mind strength beyond comparison... impeccable timing... and great rhythmic accuracy ... and finding parts that coincide with the rest of the music while supporting and influencing other instruments it is indeed a musical art of the gods... very far from “SkAtEboARdInG”
I’ve seen Dan play two summers ago when Justin was in the band, they were on tour with Blink and I’ve gotta say for an opening band they were wayyyyyy better than Blink was, just my personal opinion of course. I too am a drummer and I’ve been watching these videos for quite sometime now and it’s great to see more videos of Mr. Whitesides.
Their old drummer was way more creative and didn't sound like every other drummer in the 2010s, but this guy is obviously solid as fuck. Also who cares about his tom setup..
Super stoked on this one, however for a veteran of the scene I expected his drums to sound much better than what I am hearing here. Solid playing nevertheless.
for everyone making fun of his set up, why don't you get good at drums and play with a really famous band day after day using your energy and passion to please thousands of fans while sleeping on a tour bus and barely showering?
People using this argument always pisses me off. It’s not like when you go out to dinner and say “that food was awful” the people you’re with say “yeah well you try being a five star chef.” You don’t have to be an expert to give criticism.
Alex B where have you been ? He was kicked out in like 2004 after the In love and Death album Dan has been with them since Dan has been in the band longer than Brandon ever was
Nah, there is being a professional drummer and being a filler in a band. This guy is probably the latter. The fills are sloppy, the tuning is pretty horrible with no resonance and he seems to be having trouble keeping time. Professional drummers evolve over time gaining new technical abilities like Vinnie Paul. Fillers plateau without gaining technical abilities, aka Lars Ulrich.
Levi Jesse everyone tunes their shit differently. And everyone has different sound. And plus different coated heads make different sounds. Fuck right off lmao.
I stopped listening to the used when Brandon left. Glad I did. First album was gold. Second was so so at best. They only really had one good album in them.
Nothing particular against Dan, great drummer! The Used is a different band now, it's not the same from Maybe Memories or In love and Death, and the points are: Branden and Quin. The Used still makes music nowadays, but not that good.
John Martin from what he told me, this kit was given to him for free by SJC and then spray painted white and then got paint splattered all over it. Not a kit he ordered or anything. It sounded great at front of house I’m sure.
I onced loves the Used but their music quality has declined over the years and it’s around the time he came on as their drummer. His set up is weird but if it works for him then so be it. Their recent album is mixed horribly regarding the drums and he isn’t someone to write home about. I respect for the level he’s playing on but a lot of drummers are on his level in my humble opinion. The session drummer that played on Lies for Liars was technically the best drummer they’ve worked with. Brendon was slightly better than Dan also. Cool to see him play and how he approaches their songs.
I'll admit that the general soundscape of popular music has similar drumming now, since everyone is playing to clicktracks and quantising their tracks, along with general trends and many drummers with a lack of traditional fundamentals, but I don't think it's purely a warped tour thing. What exactly is boring? The fact that they're not playing 10 piece kits with rototoms and gongs, or the fact that the drumming is fairly held-back for the sake of composition? Finding it hard to get a clear meaning out of your comment.
You don't need difficult drumming in a song and that certainty doesn't make the drummer "bad" either. The whole purpose of drumming is to keep the beat and the time of the song and sometimes you don't need to overplay to fit a song.. just my opinion anyway

I'm not ashamed to say I would like to see Reel Big Fish
Even if im not into the used anymore, its one of my top 10 songs ever. Brings so much memories
He looks like that drunk uncle that drives a truck.
El mejor comentario que e visto xD
One of my absolute favorite drummers.
I play along with him through his music on my drum set and really haved learned alot from him and that killer original guitarist.
Fantastic drummer.
I don't know why but I enjoy watching people playing the drums. Thank you for all these videos, man.
It's such a different thing than playing guitar. To me it's like skateboarding or something! It's like a sport. It's like doing tricks.
@@SideEffectsmusic I play drums but I love watching guitar or piano covers
If u don’t play drums that is rather odd... like for instance I don’t enjoy watching people play the guitar
Me too bro🎉🔥 love to watch the drummer👍
Never been so happy to watch a drum cam. The Used have been one of my all time favorite bands since I was 9 thanks for this Tim!
Whitesides is a beast ! Dan rules 🤘
Ever since this dude joined, I’m like if it’s not Brandon it doesn’t sound right💯
exactly. brandon was a massively unique drummer, and its not the same. quinn as well for guitar.
Great work on these, man. Fun to watch a lot of different styles.
glad you open your mind up to different drummers rather than "WHERE ARE THE BLAST BEATS BRO?!?!?!"

Absolutely rock solid.
Enjoying the tuning on that snare. Almost thought it was a flam but still great either way.
I wish they were doing the whole tour I was so pumped reading the used on the lineup until I saw purple words fuck son damn
Lovely 🔊 of snare
Love your grading and sound on these as always dude.
thanks dawg!!
So sick!
Guys got rhythm and skills to pay the bills, enjoyed that cheers.🤘😎
Their old drummer was way more creative and didn't sound like every other drummer in the 2010s, but this guy is obviously solid as fuck. Also who cares about his tom setup..
Interesting set up, I like it
A.brandon=like single stroke n tripled
B.dan=he is groove man
I was there!!!
Interesting set up.
MORE!!!
Yo this is so swag-
that tight snare flicks tho
I just love this song men
Slapping it! Dan's a monster.
Great snare drum
Loving his setup
Tom placement actually seems pretty practical. There is no gap between any of the toms. #Ergonomics
I miss branden playing this and bret screaming too 😢
Dan is good but Branden will always be a beast🔥
dominick Martino True
yes, instrument made by branden, see n hear he's playing like cover version
size snare? please!
is that a bucket placed at high tom position? ;-P
Super Great
He's SOO GOOD.
what kind of drumhead he is using in his snare? anybody?
He's sponsored by Remo so their most likely Remo
Dan!!!
Bro which camera are you using for this??
Great vid!!
Super stoked on this one, however for a veteran of the scene I expected his drums to sound much better than what I am hearing here. Solid playing nevertheless.
The snare sounds sick
Watch at x1.25, quite an experience
Nice 🤘

😂
Wow, I bet you NEVER criticize anything at all do you. Moron
been there, done that, you do it

What happened to brandon?
Alex B where have you been ? He was kicked out in like 2004 after the In love and Death album Dan has been with them since Dan has been in the band longer than Brandon ever was
SOLID !! AF 😈
Brandon was better!
Andrew Contreras who says
John Bowley everyone
Andrew Contreras omg THANK YOU
No, Dan is the King !
Fart noise
❤️
wheres the Sponsor button? :D I'd be down sponsering you monthly, my dude.
When they were good!!!
that tom placement makes me wanna vomit
Zach Miller and yet he's still a better drummer than you
Crash Site ZERO it's not mutually exclusive. You can be a good drummer have an atrocious set up.
Comes with the warped tour mentality lol. Basically adults playing on kits set up for 15 yr olds lol
It's not set up that way against his will, he actually WANTS it that way, stop being such a nitpicking fucking dork
FanaticalDrummer yeah that's absolutely not the case.
🤘
Can't believe The Used settled for a drummer like this
taki taki
Branden is the man
nice tatoots
I hate the tuning of the toms. And what a strange set up
What tuning?
And yet he makes a living out of it
cool. i dissed his tuning, not him as a professional drummer
Marc K exactly, if hes a professional drummer I'm sure he knows what is doing and not worried what others like
Nah, there is being a professional drummer and being a filler in a band. This guy is probably the latter. Never understood why we raise our arms so high as drummers. It's not like it's necessary. Miss me some Portnoy videos!
Quebra tudo
Easy drumming
stick-flex
Drums sound shit. Good playing
Levi Jesse everyone tunes their shit differently. And everyone has different sound. And plus different coated heads make different sounds. Fuck right off lmao.
@@grizzlysquatch9874 there are drum sounds that are undeniably bad though, that can't be excused by tuning or preference
This is brandon's song
lazy masquerade
Just don't understand his floor tom placement
Dave Grohl is faster and more aggressive.
I didn't know Norman Reedus is the drummer of The Use and get fat...
They bear a very limited resemblance. It doesn’t make sense how you didn’t come to any better of a comparison.
Well. They both got fat..
This dude isn't even fat lol
Música chata, más o bateta é muito bom.
I stopped listening to the used when Brandon left. Glad I did. First album was gold. Second was so so at best. They only really had one good album in them.
he need to sleep
funky setup and tuning. Hes no brandon tho
Nothing particular against Dan, great drummer! The Used is a different band now, it's not the same from Maybe Memories or In love and Death, and the points are: Branden and Quin. The Used still makes music nowadays, but not that good.
stop rolling the snare
Gak enak..enakan BS
lost interest in this band after branden was kicked out of the band for stupid reasons
Why does it sound so dry and shitty ??
vile208 best theory I’ve heard yet 👍
John Martin from what he told me, this kit was given to him for free by SJC and then spray painted white and then got paint splattered all over it. Not a kit he ordered or anything. It sounded great at front of house I’m sure.
But why would someone want to use a free turd for a awesome gig??
Butchering Brendan's drums😢
this dude played in Bury Your Dead, Emmure, BTBAM and many others. one of my TOP FAV DRUMMERS! killin mark!
This is Dan Whitesides not Mark Castillo
Lol idiot
Ahahahahavahava
His set up is so weird I don't like it
Those Toms sound fucking awful
I onced loves the Used but their music quality has declined over the years and it’s around the time he came on as their drummer. His set up is weird but if it works for him then so be it. Worst!!
No amp sound? Wow, you just know the sound sucked for the audience.
Lol this band is still around?
God warped tour drumming is so boring. They could literally all sit in on the same drumkit.
I'll admit that the general soundscape of popular music has similar drumming now, since everyone is playing to clicktracks and quantising their tracks, along with general trends and many drummers with a lack of traditional fundamentals, but I don't think it's purely a warped tour thing. Rookie... hard hitter but not a single difficult thing...
Why does a drummer need to play "difficult things" to not be a rookie?
You don't need difficult drumming in a song and that certainty doesn't make the drummer "bad" either. The whole purpose of drumming is to keep the beat and the time of the song and sometimes you don't need to overplay to fit a song.. just my opinion anyway
