Thank you, before the reaction even gets underway, for focusing on mental health. That's extremely kind and in short supply. Sorry in advance for Joker 2, especially feeling like you have to think of a way to like it. Apparently not even Todd Phillips understands this first movie, so aside from all the mentally ill people who know exactly where it's coming from, anyone else who does is a welcome relief. Certainly a misunderstood film. It seems to be as much about comic back stories as Hereditary was horror elements. It's there, but the human story is what matters.
The best part about this movie is that during the studio scene lots of people sympathized with Arthur and wanted him to shoot the host. That was the great trick of that movie. The director managed to turn some viewers bad for a moment.
Your intuition is spot on. Joker was meant to be a standalone film, but the studio threw millions of dollars at the director to basically bribe him into making a part 2. His heart wasnt in it and the reviews have been awful. It bombed at the box office as well.
My cousin went to see it with her friends. The two of them ended up being alone in the theater after the other group there just bailed on it in the first 10 minutes. My cousin said she and her friend ended up just throwing popcorn at each other because they didn't want to walk out but were bored out of their minds.
As much as I enjoyed this movie back when it was released I'm not surprised at all that a sequel from the same director wouldn't be good. The first film was just a copy of several 70's Martin Scorsese's movies blended into one story. It's no coincidence that De Niro is in the movie. As a matter of fact, I remember how for years there were rumours of Scorsese being interested in producing a movie about the Joker, potentially starring DiCaprio, until that project seemed to be no more in the works and then, all of a sudden, Warner Bros announced that they were indeed producing a Joker movie directed by Todd Phillips. Actually, the first time I saw the trailer I assumed that Scorsese was still involved since all the references to his movies were so obvious. Still a good movie, but, again, I can see how the same creator would fail at making a sequel if he wasn't able to use Scorsese as his reference model again.
@@georgezee5173 DiCaprio wouldve been an insane Joker.....and Scorcese would do something similar to Dark Knight....instead of this "sweened barber" shit
That's not quite correct. The director Todd Phillips and the actor Joaquin Phoenix were open to the idea of a sequel. The studio Warner Bros of course wants a sequel of a lucrative film, but the original movie was not set up to have a sequel - so what Phillips and Phoenix were not interested in was to create a conventional movie as a sequel. If they were going to do it, it's got to be something new and different. Phillips would only agree to do a sequel if he gets to do it his way. It was Phoenix who came up with the idea of a Broadway show musical, so Phillips went with that. So Phillips and Phoenix got to do the 2nd film that they want, so their heart was definitely in it. Phillips wanted to create something new and different, and Phoenix wanted to create an art film. They got what they wanted. It's just that it isn't what the fans of the 1st film want.
My favourite fun theory: The question "What's so funny?" at the end makes no sense because she would know about Arthur's condition. Threre are a lot of details that shows that the whole film was just his imagination, his final joke that no one will get
Centane mentions this video was filmed same day she was going to an invited premiere with Warner Bros. Centane is saying she watched this "a month ago", and this video will come a month later. Since you mentioned already seeing the 2nd movie I have a theory that this movie is the movie they made of the events that actually happened. Lee mentioned how the movie was good. And most of us agree this was a good movie. I bet the actual events were a lot less dramatic as this movie made them seem.
So happy that you're supporting Movember! I also am supporting it from down here in Melbourne, Australia. Joker is a perfect movie that relates to the subject. Thank you!
Nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture, making it the first DC Comic movie to be nominated in all categories. It won Best Actor and Best Original Score. It was the highest grossing R Rated movie to make $1 billion dollars until Deadpool And Wolverine made $1.3 billion dollars in 2024. Filmmaker David Fincher dismissed the film as it represents someone with serious mental health issues seen as a hero in his community, fighting back against a corrupt society, and not seen as a villain in other forms of media.
Most overrated movie of the past decade. Still a good movie, but the way it rips off from several Scorsese movies is so blatant that I can't take it as an original piece of art as most people seem to do. The 11 Oscar nominations is a total joke. Only Phoenix's performance was deserving of the nomiation (and winning).

Hello Kamilla!😊 Great job reacting to this well made Joker film!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I have not watched the sequel. I know it is pretty bad. You seem to agree by your letterboxd rating.😉
8 different types of medications were not helping his mental issues but we can see that as soon as the train incident happens he starts getting confident n starts "feeling better" too which is somewhat relatable to this day, how in the world countries rely on medication to numb people, pharmaceuticals get richer while people get even more numb. Mental health is no joke n this movie portrayed it well. Btw the first 2 guys on the train, that he shot, could be argued that it was self defense, not the 3rd tho, that def was not 😬
There are that are Marvel fans and there are those that are DC fans. For 15 to 20 years now the Marvel films have been dominating and and have made an incredible amount of money and for the most part are excellent entertainment. Ironman, Spider-Man, Thor, the avengers as a whole. Just huge movies. With the exception of the Christopher Nolan Batman films the DC movies have been outclassed. I liked Man of steel very much and the first Wonder Woman. I also didn’t dislike the justice league. One thing though that the Marvel movies just can’t compete with is that they don’t have The Joker. Probably the greatest comic book villain of all time. He’s such great character that the role has won two Academy awards. A comic book villain with two Oscar’s? That’s just amazing. The closest thing the Marvel universe has is Willem DaFoes Green Goblin.

I originally assumed 'Joker' was actually a test film made by Warner Bros to see how the public would respond to Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal of the Joker, since Jarod Leto's performance had generated mixed results. Set in an 'alternate universe' had 'Joker' bombed at the box office, the studio would be in a better position to distance themselves from it and quickly forget about it. 3:50 this is a completely different Joker most origins of the Joker have him be a gangster who fell into a vat of chemicals and went insane and deformed making him look like a clown.
I came to this video to warn you not to watch the second movie. I facepalmed when you said that this was recorded on the night of the premiere of the second movie. Now I didn't personally see the second movie, from the moment they announced it I said I wouldn't, that Joker was a fantastic piece of audio-visual art that should stand alone. From what I've come to understand from the reviews since, that was most certainly the correct choice. Sorry I couldn't save you.
DC and Marvel have create this "multiverse" in order to justify incoherence in the different stories about their characters. So, this Joker isn't the same Joker from Nolan or Burton or any DC writer. Each author has his own Joker with his own origins and story.
These more gritty and realistic “superhero” films really cut through all of the CGI garbage they’re pumping out these days. Really helps keep the genre grounded
Mental illness is common, especially if you've been tied to a radiator suffering from malnutrition and abused as a kid. The psychiatric notes said she adopted him, they would have followed the paper trail to establish who the boy was and not just believe what a mental patient told them.
When you watch Joker 2 consider that 1 & 2 are one long film. Like Crime & Punishment. This is just one of many versions of the Joker. This is Todd Phillips version. @lokithecat7225 A) Why wouldn't you watch it to form your own opinion on the film instead of what the masses say. I know you think it sucks from your opinion. B) I realize that she was going to see it right after she watched this, loki. I thougt it was a good film. And would like to hear her thoughts on it since it seems to be so devisive a subject. I would never rag on her for her opinion on a movie. I feel that's pathetic. Like all these huge RUclipsrs that just say everything is woke it sucks. And they make bank in superchats off saying everything Hollywood does is shit. Or collider and Reel Rejects that just say everything is awesome including all those shit Marvel movie and Star Wars shows. I just want someone that has various opinions on film. Everyone was expecting Harlee and Joker to escape and cause mayhem and murder. But that isn't what they got. So Everyone got pissed. What they got with Joker 1 & 2 was like one big film. Think of it as J1 is like Crime and J2 is Punishment. Crime and Punishment. Then you could look at it from the directors vision and point of view of his take on Joker. Like I said before this is one of like 12 different versions of the Joker. DC comics kind of origin story could be the storyline 'One Bad Day' or 'the under the red hood' version where he falls in the acid like in Batman 89. There is also a red hood version that's an animated movie were The Red Hood isn't Jason Todd. It's a take on the Jokers origin story.
A big reason I really dislike America is the health care, education and social programs. The country/government fails millions of children and adults every year, especially when it comes to mental health. That includes me too, I have a lot of issues that could have been solved early on, but because I didn’t have insurance I couldn’t get the help I needed, and now those issues have caused permanent damage. I’d have loved to go to college, but between medical debt from hospital visits and student loan payments? Well, I’d never be able to pay both off, I can’t even pay the medical debt, and the thought of two large sources of debt makes me feel… unlivable. It just sucks here, and I think about how different life would be if I grew up somewhere you didn’t need money to get proper healthcare or an education. And there’s millions here that have it WAY worse than I do, it’s not good and nobody in power cares, not even fellow citizens.
Well considering democrats are finished as a political group, you ain't seen nothing yet. Everything is about to be gutted, especially social programs and anything to do with healthcare assistance. If you can't afford insurance premiums, copays, etc. you are screwed. Dems were the only ones to ever pass those things but they're all gone now. I use the ACA for insurance but that's about to end so I will have to start considering unaliving methods at some point because I can't afford the surgeries I will need in the future
Can you react to the movie “Never Say Never Again (1983)” please? It’s based on the novel “Thunderball (1961)” by Ian Fleming, Jack Whittingham, and Kevin McClory.
I think this movie is a Joke. For me the whole point is that Joker is telling a big joke. The idea I had watching this. And it's funny for some people like me. You know by this point that Joker feels like a BFF to Batman. It's his mind being so chaotic and brilliant. Or it could also be more from a Bruce Wayne perspective in a dream from his sick brain after his parents died. And about that scene when he was inside of the fridge he was trying to suicide himself. Most people just don't get that hint. But its a taboo unfortunately
I'll be honest, I didn't and don't hate 'Folie à Deux' like everyone else does.....except the ending. The ending is terrible, makes zero sense, pissed me off actually, but up until then I was completely on board. The finale is ridiculous and cheap because it pretty much renders both films pointless, which as a fan I consider insulting. Other than that, though, I think 'Folie à Deux' is alright. Personally I'm not big on musicals, but much to my surprise even that element worked for me because Phoenix and Gaga are singing covers of music I already listen to anyway ('50s and '60s jukebox tunes), so I enjoyed it. Sidenote: if Lady Gaga could just ditch the popstar stuff, she'd have a promising career in gospel, because in the film she sings and performs a sequence called 'Gonna Build A Mountain,' and it's incredible, easily the film's best scene.
Great reaction not an reaction request, you want to help with you fundraiser for yourself listen to the song by Tom McDonald the system it will give you a pin point reason on mental health
The Nolan Joker was not the DC-style Joker. That Joker has only been done by Jack Nicholson in 1989s Batman. I'm actually in this movie but on one of the scenes, your face is blocking me. How dare you!!
Don't listen to the critics about Joker 2. People who are comic book fans hate the film, but I don't think most people understand the viewpoint of the film. It's about the Joker's madness and we see it from his viewpoint. It's not supposed to be a Joker origin story. I'm glad you're seeing this first; it will make the sequel make a lot more sense.

This one is fantastic. Don't bother with the 2nd Joker film. It was legitimately awful.
19:55 what exactly do you want her to do lol
Whatever you do,Please avoid the second movie
I've already seen it :)
Don't pin high hopes on the new one.
Genial!
ARDAMOOOOOOOLAY

The Nolan Joker was not the DC-style Joker. That Joker has only been done by Jack Nicholson in 1989s Batman.
I'm actually in this movie but on one of the scenes, your face is blocking me. How dare you!!
Great movie, terrible Joker origin story.
hate this movie. its terrible. any true DC fan hates it as well. its meaningless at the end of the day.
Hi Centane you neck is red ?
sensitive body, if I scratch myself I always turn red. You can notice that on streams and full reactions when I scratch my face LOL
This movie was very meh
So happy for my mom and dad when I watch this. Imagine your safe place being a fridge? I can’t…
The sequel is trash
As one of the first people in the world watching Joker 2 my rating was my own 😭
@@Centane I wish I could access that... I don't do discord. I suspect that you caught the movie's depth.
I am writing this to help out kamilla and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥹🙏
