This Steam version is known as a mysterious title in Japan. Because the developer has been missing since around 2010. When it was released on Steam in 2014, several people immediately noticed that the game had been hacked. 2D Fighting Maker has terms of use, and this work may violate multiple rules. Several people asked the publisher about this, and they replied that they had permission from the developer and that he is now enjoying the MMO under a different handle. However, it is highly doubtful because no one in Japan knows about his whereabouts. His hometown was devastated by an earthquake, and all I know is that he said he would return when he ran out of money.
I remember reading about this on a post on Dustloop many years ago, when the game was just a free FM2nd game. Somebody claimed to have been in contact with the creator before the disappearance. According to that person, he was a former CAPCOM artist from the arcade era, but the shift to 3D left him without a job. He apparently created almost the entire game alone, and wanted to originally use it as a skill showcase, but it didn't get him a job. I have no idea how much of that is true, but I recall the thread talking about him having completely vanished, only for this version of the game to show up.
@@KazeMemaryu The developer was interviewed by a magazine in 2009, and we can read the development history.(TechGian 2009) He worked at Capcom and submitted the idea for the game to the company after working on models for Resident Evil 3. However, he had a disagreement with his boss and was told that if he wanted to make the game, he should start his own company. Also, he bought a new PC before the release and kept the source code. So, if EigoManga have permission, they should modify the source code and build it with FM2D. But they aren't doing it.
The developer also worked on Megaman & Bass as an object designer. And he also worked at SNK, on KOF EX 1 and KOF EX2 (and probably the Dreamcast port of KOF 99, but it's not confirmed). In retrospect, you can kinda see his artistic influence in Jun and Miu, characters who were exclusive to EX 2.
Characters like Luna with multiple different combat stances are really hard to master, but it's like watching poetry in motion when properly executed, very flashy
i just picked up this game on the sale and it's awesome!! default controller set-up kinda suck, but after changing that, it's a complete banger! the DLC it's weird as well but the base game it's a must buy!! thanks for the showcase! i love this channel!
