Riot: "We heard that a lot of these Eternals aren't unique enough to the specific champions!"
    [three months later]
Riot: "so anyways every champion with a shielding ability has an Eternal that shows how much damage they blocked with the shield, that's it, that's all there is to it, yes that's literally already tracked in post-game stats, give us money now thank you"
I _hate_ that these are monetized, and I've hated it since they were announced. And the fact that the only way to unlock them without monetization is through RNG via Essence Capsules, which we have no way of knowing for sure will in any way be accessible outside of ranked split rewards, is even _more_ godawful. Nothing has changed. They're acting like we're all supposed to have just magically forgotten what Eternals were like when they were first announced, as if we don't still have bountiful evidence to reference?
I haven't spent a penny on Riot ever since the lawsuit was announced, and they still won't see a penny so long as they're coddling Scott Gelb's ass in the goddamn workplace. And I will continue to rail against them for the years of harassment and abuse that were swept under the rug, and the blackballing, and the executive safeguarding, and the increasingly-predatory monetization practices. And I will continue to be grateful for the work of the people in the creative teams, and the balance teams, and all the people at the bottom rungs of the ladder trying to do their job and make the game good enough that we'll be able to tolerate the things they're being forced to do by the executive branch. But I will sure as shit lambaste the corporate side for veering harder and harder into exploiting their players's wallets at every opportunity.

      @nfzeta128 4 года назад

Thing is, you're actually wrong there. Someone can have 2.5 million mastery points and have mastery 7 and still be shit at their champion. I've seen something similar happen personally. For one, mastery points and mastery aren't relative to a player's objective level of skill just to how many games they played and how many S' they may have gotten in their games. S ranking however are relative to how players are doing in the role so that zyra player for example could have played top late zyra (which no one played) and just not hard feed and would get an S, after that they could just spam play her to the 2.5 million points.
Those S rankings are based on some of the very stats that eternals will be showing, that show you successful uses of the champion's kit. It's still not 100% conclusive to the player's overall skill but it's more context. There was a time when it wasn't the stats these eternals will show that determined what mastery rating you got. Instead it was almost purely on KDA so KDA players got the most S rankings, even if they were hardly contributing to the game.
Mastery was just as unnecessary as these eternals and you only don't think so because mastery has become the stick by which you measure things and the same will become true for eternals after being made official and being spread.

@@alya2510 Well loot boxes are very much gambling or trigger the same excitement impulses as gambling. With eternals you do actually know what you are getting, there is no luck or element of winning more than you put in, involved. Therefore it will not appeal to those with weaknesses to risk averse addictions.
If people know what they are, and some people still choose to actually buy them? doesnt that mean these are something some people actually want?
I think i mentioned i play one champ, so for me this would not be a big outlay. I think i saw these are less than one thousand RP for a full set, and you can get some with BP too. So yeah i think they are dumb, but my only fear is they would affect gameplay since people would be doing 'tricks' to farm up eternals possibly.
It depends how they are designed.

You get a prestige skin for 10 dollars more than the regular epic skin and you also get 15/20 dollars worth of rewards that I stated in my previous comment.
I do think they are cash grabs but not for the reason you mention.

The gaming industry has always been a capitalist warzone. It didn't just "go wrong", it's been a slow spiral down ever since companies first realised you could charge more money after the initial purchase. I believe EA was patient 0.
But what do you expect? Not all of these companies are gonna be run with passion in their hearts. Business is business, I can love a company for making the right choice as much as I want but it's a dog eat dog world in business. Also, League is a free to play game so this doesn't even apply. No one is forcing anyone to buy eternals, they're a bad way of implimenting an achivement system but it's nothing to get all existential about.
Most companies first concern is profit, most of them see you as wallets with legs, some are just better at hiding it than others. Don't be fooled into thinking a company cares about you, they almost always don't. An individual within that company may feel fond of the playerbase but that's not the company itself caring about you.

This makes them more like the shiny Pokemon cards: they all have the same “stats”, but some of them are shiny.

  • @ArtumTsumia
    @ArtumTsumia 4 года назад +1

Yeah, _League of Legends_ isn't the game is used to be. Perhaps more accurately, Riot has been going down this road for quite some time. I could make a whole list of things they slowly changed in an effort to monetize things further. Chromas, Keys & Chests, Missions, RP Sales, Skin Sales, etc. all slowly wore down my willingness to give them money. Eventually there were so many little annoying things that I stopped playing. Skin Sales used to be clearly advertised in the launcher, new skins would be discounted at launch, there used to be sales for 'double bonus RP' (making it the best time to stock up on lots of RP), Chests used to be rewards for 'performing well' with a specific champion, and more. Slowly they started changing these systems that incentivized players to play the game (an important thing for a multiplayer game) into systems that tried to get the most money out of players. Things like the removal of IP in favor of an infinite leveling system designed to tease players with random loot in hopes that they'd pay money to use that loot are kind of key points in the history of _League._
Sure it's a free to play game, but while early on I enjoyed giving them money, the more they started begging for money and asking for it everywhere, the less I felt inclined to. Finally it got to the point where they released a Solar Eclipse Leona, a Legendary Skin and they had the audacity to do a palette swap in the form of Lunar Eclipse and try to sell it for full price (changed to half price if you bought both). At that point I decided the future of the games monetization was just going to continue going down hill and what little goodwill I had for Riot was used up. Playing had become a chore and if I wanted the full benefit of playing, I'd have to be giving them money for passes and tickets. I don't think I continued playing much longer after that and I'm not terribly surprised they're adding more monetization features designed to make players feel like they're missing out if they don't give them money.
    (edit)
... at the end of this video, I got an ad for _League of Legends,_ the irony.

Another way to encourage us to spend some kind of currency for displaying something that you already achieved by putting in hours, energy and time. It should also be noted that these points are usable towards the Trackers OR Skins, and they're not character independent, so you can grab points off of easy bounties on other characters and then put them into your main(s).

My real issue with Eternals is that players may be too focused on progressing their Eternals, and end up throwing games. Like with Lee, going 1 for 1 in a situation where it's a bad trade, but Lee gets progress on the Bells Rung Eternal. Or pointlessly suiciding to bicycle kick an enemy. With Syndra where you have to use a 5 orb ult, the enemy is low and you could easily just kill them with a 3 or 4 orb ult, but you are greeding for the 5 for the Eternal and the opponent flashes away or something. Or with Katarina the Eternal where you need to kill people with your ult, but you can kill your opponent without wasting your ult, yet you end up using it anyway just for the Eternal.
There are so many Eternals that make the player do a play that's not optimal, and that's what bothers me the most.

Doesn't change the fact that Riot is a money vaccume. We give them BILLIONS of dollars and they still shake us down for more.
have fun being a pay puppet.

Riot got negative feedback for having to pay RP to get eternals so they decided to change it, they changed it alright so that basic eternals are the same for every champ is for BE but can only get unique eternals for RP. Riot promised we would be able to get both for BE but then goes back on what they said to try and make more money for no reason. A company who made millions from a free game already has come out on top and doesnt need anymore money. Achievements for playing a champ should be able to be earned through playing the game and spending BE, players who dont want to wait can spend RP. We should be getting what we were promised and have the opportunity to spend BE or RP on all eternals.

There is an online game that did something similar but did it better. Dungeons and dragons online.
They made a monster manual which is tracking the number, what subraces or special monsters of a type you killed
    example: dragons.
What this did though was to also after fighting enough of them start showing you hidden stats of the monsters and lore for them.
Finally what they did was to give the first of the seven pages for free, which contained all the most common monsters.
Yes it was paid content on a free game but in my opinion worthed to actually pay for it if you felt like it way more

Their marketing targets are one-tricks and tryhards. Aside from personal favorites and just being able to show off, seriously, who else is focused on these? It's vying for validation.

You said right things!!! It's like llaying with minds, making us unlock stats when some of them you can actualy track down yourself.
If it was kinda good.. but no 6 stats to pop out for sweet $$$ you spent on your favorite champion. If they let you customize stuff in it. Not just "Here you have fancy things that you do in matches.. BUT here is prize tag"
Buffs for champion who got skin recently
    Unpopular champions are staying weak
    "PRESTIGE" chromas
And now Eternals aka prized achievements or "PRESTIGE" stats
    It all goes down hill..
At least art made by Riot Games is still on good level. Music, lore and champions YES they start to be simple but they add something to the game. Too bad they keep changing and adding stuff to this alwaysbreakingclient.
We can hope that they will finally listen and react to their community reaction.

Tbh, I was a bit stupid with this, I saw the picture of eternals and assumed it would unlock a whole bunch of characters. Also, I only just started playing, so I feel like I wasted a whole load of blue essence which I would've spent on other characters.

Remember when Bethesda tried to monetize mods? Yeah let's just try to shame Riot the same way we did back then
