Love all the haters on here, you are hilarious. First of all you don't pay attention very well. How many times did he say he has a young family and wants to stay close to home? He fishes the 2 circuits which allows him to be competitive yet sleep in his own bed. Why would he spend all the extra money to go all over the country and compete against the Spotlighters? I also agree with him that the pros who left BASS should not be given exemptions. They left BASS hanging and now they come back on bended knee to rejoin the tour. Let them go thru the opens and see how hard it is now. Most of the guys who went back are struggling. I think that's why you see lakes on the schedule that cater to old school fishing. I'm guessing most of you haters weren't watching when Randy was very competitive. He was not on par with a KVD but he was definitely a big stick back in the day. He has nothing to prove to you! Hope you whack them today, good luck! 🙌
I appreciate Randy's perspective about this. It's incredibly expensive to fish a major circuit with little returns unless you finish very high. It's not worth going into major debt to try and compete with these guys. He doesn't have the financial backing to do it and is not willing to sacrifice what he needs to do to take care of his family.
@guyfoscone3193 are you serious this dude does more to cause drama and controversy in bass fishing. He doesn't care about anything except clicks and you dummies believe his selfish rants as if he was quoting Bible scriptures . He says anything to cause controversy and is the reason for all the bs going on in bass fishing now
I agree with you on this one. Neither of these anglers were fishing well enough to fish the MLF Bass pro tour next year, but somehow they’re able to skip the line.
You're 100% right. Everyone should requalify if they left BASS for BPT and now want to return to BASS. This is a mes. Unfortunately, bass fishing is losing its luster with boat prices, electronics prices, and equipment prices at an all-time high. It destroys the sport of bass fishing.
@smelltheglove2038 it doesn't make sense that a tournament bass boat is 100k plus. The majority of people can't afford them. I'm not sure who said it's just the bass fishing industry that's raising their prices. Most reasonable fishermen can agree that prices don't have to be as high as they are. For example, new boat sales are down this year. People are repowering and keeping their boats. Hopefully, the manufacturers will reduce prices to move 2025 models.
@@MrBash82 I'm not defending the price of the boats, just pointing out that everything is now double the price of what it once was. Can't afford it? Do t buy it. You dont need a bass boat to fish.
Bass boat prices have dramatically increased way before the economy tanked! They've been way over-priced and of low quality since the late 90s. Yes, everything's gone way up but bass boats and equipment have outpaced the economy by 20 years, at least, and are ya gonna try to imply the crap quality is due to the economy, too? Pfffft! Nothing but a bunch of excuses for ripping off the public.
The vast majority of anglers don't have more rods than fingers on a hand, are hand to mouth as far as tackle goes and fish from shore 95%+ of the time. Boats, electronics, 20 rods with braid/fluoro and the private tackle shop in a room/garage has always been expensive. You're seeing the results of crony capitalism and open borders affect your buying power. Not saying that the industry isn't being changed negatively by mega-corporations eating up smaller brands but your ire needs to be directed elsewhere.
Randy, it's a perk for being a classic winner or and angler of the year winner. I don't see there's anything wrong with that. I just don't think they have to requalify. Just because they left bass and went to mlf. The exemption rule is there for a reason. Classic winner or anglo of the year, two of the hardest things to accomplish in bass fishing

Randy, didn't you leave Bassmaster where you built your career to go fish FLW? The carrot they dangled looked better, and it probably was for a while, but now it's defunked. Am I right that the toyota series is just the old flw qualifying events? Competing circuits are good for the sport. It gives a broader opportunity for more anglers. It also brings innovation of ideas on how tournaments should be, catch weigh and release for example. Good luck today
I am not for the free pass. You are welcome to leave on your on free will, but you must rejoin the elite club by the blood sweat and tears of the qualifying opens.
Don't agree with this entirely, Randy Howell has fished MLF (FLW) since the 90's and has 5 wins? I wouldn't agree that BASS only made his career. He basically fished both same as you did back then. He has more earning with MLF/FLW than with BASS as well as more wins with MLF/FLW.
My thoughts Rockin Randall, I think it’s a two way street BASS helped their career and they help grow BASS so in this industry it seems if you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours if you do good if you don’t “see ya”, so if you want something in bass fishing you should have to earn it, I say no give me’s
I agree with the Legends exemption. Get rid of that, and make everyone qualify. If they're among "the best in the world"...they should have no problem.
MLF Bass Pro Tour is in a reduction mode. It you are not in the top 40 you should be looking to what else is available. I'm not sure if Randy Howell would have qualified for the BPT in 2026 but if he has a ticket to the Elites you have to take it.
But you are good with letting someone who has won classics or certain money criteria, who by the way aren’t fishing currently, being on a technology panel to determine what to use or not use?
I agree on this. Cliff pace and Randy are great dudes but legends? Come on now Randy might have had a legendary day but legendary career? That’s a stretch no disrespect

You did this before Lee. You did this when Jordan Lee joined back. And now this. Do I agree that anyone who left should be allowed back without going through the Opens? No I dont. But rules are in place to allow it. At some point very soon, all the anglers with "chips" will run out and this will end. You cant change the rule now after others have been allowed. BTW, remember that when those anglers left, BASS changed how they did things with payouts so the BPT did trigger positive moves in BASS at the time.

Let's be candid: if Bassmaster had adequately compensated its anglers and provided better support, many of them likely wouldn’t have switched to other leagues. With MLF offering no entry fees, it’s understandable why competitors would make that move. Bass fishing is meant to be a professional sport, yet many athletes still face significant entry fees. Until this dynamic changes, tournament bass fishing may remain a niche sport. Personally, I've lost considerable interest since the introduction of forward-facing sonar technology. The NPFL stands out as an organization striving to do the right thing, and I genuinely hope for their success. However, without substantial sponsorship and increased visibility for the sport, it's likely that anglers will continue to pursue more lucrative opportunities elsewhere. The reality is that loyalty among competitors is dwindling, and many feel that Bassmaster has not adequately supported dedicated anglers and fans who can perform without relying on advanced technology. Additionally, it’s important to acknowledge that while Randy and Cliff have had significant careers, their current standings may not reflect their previous success. They have families to support, and would most likely not qualify through the Opens. Bassmaster seems to recognize this, as the fan engagement both of these anglers bring, along with their years of experience, appears to be a key factor in their continued presence.
