I love your list. 4 5 and 8 are my favorite so far. I started with 3 but fell in love with 4 and 5. 6 was a huge dissapointment to me. The clone characters killed me. They gave my boy Zhang He a freaking spear. Lol but I got 8 last week and I'm blown away. There are a few things I would have done different, and they did anime up the characters a lot. But im loving the gameplay. Man it's been so much fun.
8 is probably the best one to date, but if they remastered 3,4,5 those would get insane interest as well. 8 was peak because of the sheer amount of story content there was. hypotheticals literally was a 1000IQ addition
Also had great battlefield immersion. The way the armies worked was cool and an improvement on 5’s base system. Everything else dragged it down (clones, renbu system, lack of story modes/thus more unique stages and cutscenes)
i feel like in dw4 there was a level of difficulty that doesnt exist today. LuBu was probably at the height of his powers, but i even remember struggling a little bit in Chi Bi and some others
I have to say that I absolutely love Dynasty Warriors 2. The simplistic approach is very relaxing and the hard difficulty can be very difficult even at max level. But the coolest part is the formations the armies move around in. I can sit and let a battle play out and watch how the armies move and I am so impressed. I wish they would include that in future games, make the small peons actually have significance.

Dynasty Warriors 4 was definitely the best for me, and for many reasons. 1. The gameplay was simple to pick up straight up, but complex enough to encourage many many replays. Different story pathings to unlock different stages, Tales, etc was nothing short of a brilliant idea. The specific requirements really made you want to unlock everything, but there wasn't an insurmountable number, and you can skip stages, so even though you were replaying, the repetitiveness was cut down and allowed unlocking with ease, but you still had to replay it. That itself is a genius idea to not make the game feel like an endless repeat, yet gave a sense of achievement. 2. The weapon system is by far the best. Simple, straightforward, and like point 1, encouraged replay, set specific requirements, but it wasn't anything ridiculous. Provided a simple stat, which is Attack, and didn't try to over complicate it with other things. 3. Unlocking certain items required replaying certain stages and fulfil certain requirements, again, like points 1 and 2, simple, challenging, brilliant and still offered a sense of achievement. 4. I actually find being able to play characters that were historically present in a particular battle to be a good thing because you can keep playing the character you like. There's actually a few things to note. Dynasty Warriors is not a historically accurate game franchise, because the whole concept is based on the novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, not actual history, meaning playing a character that shouldn't have been present isn't a big deal really. Furthermore, they actually address this VERY well in my opinion. Basically, if the character you play shouldn't have been there, on the Unit Info tab, you're just a sub general, almost like a nobody, but if you're playing a character that should be present, you're a main general. It's subtle, but brilliant in my opinion and helps with the concept of historical accuracy, at least to a certain degree. 5. Stages or even encounters of the same stage changing in Musou mode depending on previous actions is amazing. This is also known as zapping, and is just an amazing idea. The same stage can feel different so it doesn't feel too repetitive. Honestly, Dynasty Warriors 4 balanced perfectly between simple and challenging, and had so many gameplay mechanics in place that encouraged countless replays. I honestly can't say any other in the franchise did the same or even came close. Like Dynasty Warriors 5 was an attempt to improve, but I didn't play it nearly as much, because the complication just didn't settle, like additional stats and stuff. Recently got my PS2 set up again and I went back to Dynasty Warriors 4 straight away, unlocking stuff I missed, getting level 10 weapons, etc, but I can't say Dynasty Warriors 5 is tempting me the same way.
8 was peak dynasty warriors everyone has their own weapons which gives them their own identity, the story following the kingdoms was good and the hypothetical routes were amazing. I feel like if 10 came out it would be similar to 8 but with a little bit new content like characters, music and stages and maybe new story missions for each kingdom.
I agree with you. It was the best the franchise has ever been. The PS4 Complete Edition is the one I own and I'm proud to say it's one of the best Dynasty Warriors game I played.
Their own weapons in DW 8XL ? If I remember right, you were able to give nearly any weapon to your characters which was totally non-iconic. But I just played it a bit. After playing DW 4XL for more than 200 hours I wasn´t very motivated to do the same thing over and over.
DW 1: Fighting Game DW 2: New Genre, baby steps DW 3: Big improvement, series got its identity and most difficult DW 4: Best one in classic era. Duels, alternate routes, everything is so good. DW 5: More character focus is really good and controls improved but cut many things. If it didn't cut Duels and Alternate routes it would be perfect DW 6: Black Sheep. Big disappointment. I rather play fighting game. DW 7: New route, best story, big improvement. DW 8: Best one in modern era. So much fun to play. Haven't played others.
I disagree on the dw6 one. Like you said with dw2, they tried reinventing the game with a new engine and a new playstyle that didn't stick with the players and layed the foundation for the newer Dynasty Warrior games. Dw7 is really what dw6 should have been. I kinda enjoyed that game, unlike 7 and 8 still had that massive battlefield feeling and the renbu system was repetitive yeah, but it wasn't that different from the previous classic dw games era where you had 6 combos variations and nothing else.
@@seifeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee DW 6 has some massive flaws that prevent me enjoy the game. DW games are not really complex game, the combat is main charm but first time felt not enjoying combat in a DW game, I didn't felt like hitting something and renbu is a flawed mechanic killed the combat. Let me explain it with an example I experienced. In battle of Chang Ban from Wei side you had to beat Liu Bei before he reach dock. It was a breeze through until last part where Zhao Yun come. As an event he got massive boost, the problem of renbu system is you should fill renbu meter for damage, the thing I experienced is our army destroyed Shu's peons because of that I can't fill my renbu meter. My hits simply did no damage to Zhao Yun but he had boost and defeated my all officers and soldiers. Just one guy beat my entire force. In previous games some characters got massive boosts too like Lu Bu in every game at Hu Lao gate, Gang Ning and Pang De gets certain stages too but you can still beat them but first time I experienced a game mechanic prevents you from defeating an obstacle. I tried it again and failed again but I realised Liu Bei lost some time during passing last Wei base. In third try I completely ignored everything and reached last base. When Liu Bei came, I simply beat him and complated stage. That was kinda ridiculous. Anyway my point is renbu system sucks the fun part of the game. Older games had limited combo but that was enough to beat obstacles.
Dynasty warriors 4 was my introduction as well. GameStop had a special going on if you buy two games you get 1 free and dynasty warriors was the free one that me and my brother just randomly grabbed from the cheap games bin. I don’t remember what the other two games were though because I probably played this game for 14+ hours a day during the summer of 04.
I relieved that people don't really like DW 6, because i loved 6 and thanks to my low standard, I'll be able to enjoy 7 just fine. Great video btw, also DW6 is available on PS2 so i thought you probably would want to update the description
My 1st dynasty warriors game was 5 empires for the Xbox 360 at that time. I accidentally found it in a movie gallery that was going out. I really enjoy making my own character and becoming an emperor to rule ancient China. The thing that I like the most was the different combos when you different buttons and of course the musuo, stages are still very reminiscent and I love the OSt too. My favorite dynasty warriors is 8 extreme legends, the only downside is very hard trying to get good weapons cuz it require you to do certain missions. Now 9 I know a lot of ppl don't like it but personally for me I had a blast with it, because they introduce a new way for the combat mechanic, I did over 400 combos with it and this is actually the 1st dynasty warrior game I don't die so fast because I craft it strong weapons and equip them with their special elements. Yes the open world is so dead but I really enjoy hopping into my horse to find all the sight seeing irl places.
Currently Playing through DW8 Ex but I have to say 4 was the absolute best. Best sound track, levels characters and other things that would unlock depending on how you completed things. I had over 300 hours with my brothers back in the day and we still had no idea about the Qiao sisters, when we found them and that level to get them we shat a brick xD
don't forget how the difficulty was way higher.. my god the random foot soldiers just constantly attacking you.. you can't even mount your horse unless you have shadow harness
@@Arth020 Absolutely ! Random foot soldiers became bolder with when choosing a higher difficuty. I was shocked when random foot soldiers started paring my attacks. I was like " ooh wait I have a lvl10 weapon, you're supposed to die"
I came to the series with DW8(XLCE)and then DW8 Empires. I really enjoyed them but it’s kinda sad that this was the series’ peak, that it’ll be years before there’s another mainline game that might build upon it, and that chances are KT will probably cock it up and fail to develop their successes further.
DW8XL is definitely the best the mainline series has to offer, imo. Love the game to death. Also, seen quite a bit of Guan Yu gameplay in this vid, perhaps I've found a fellow Guan Yu fanboy? :)
Good video I think it's crazily common how many British people I've come across that are fans of this series it's pretty common at this point. It's a good series your ranking makes sense. I'd like to see one on warriors Orochi and samurai warriors
I just got 8 and it's been really fun. I still have a soft spot for 3 4 and 5. Those I've replaced recently. But I just started playing 8. I like the old weapons making a return. I wish the nanman had a campaign and Meng Huo is a bit too ripped but I'm glad I never have to 1v1 duel lu bu again. Lol I seriousness tho 8 has surpassed my expectations a lot. Oh another complaint, I really liked Gan Ning Rivermaster sword. A bit more than I like the flail. But it's still good. I do miss finding an imperial seal and making it 3 laps around the map. Lol. Super glad lu bu got the skypiercer back and Zhang He got his claws back. Ah and I miss huang gai having the mace and shield.
This is a good review on ranking dynasty warriors I agree with half the list I'd say my top 5 would differ from yours. 1) Dynasty Warriors 5 2) Dynasty Warriors 4 3) Dynasty Warriors 3 4) Dynasty Warriors 8 5) Dynasty Warriors 7
@@DonCritic How is it great out side of it existing? Id like know whats the main difference between 7 and 8, because i good list is one that doesn't have unnecessary listings
Finally I found a Dynasty Warriors fan who likes and gives proper respect to DW7 and DW8! DW7 has the best story bar none. Every DW fan should experience it. DW8 builds on the gameplay that DW7 has set up and we got something really, really special. The gameplay is so much fun with so many unique movesets, 2 Ex attacks, 3 Musous, Rage mode etc. Then we have the story mode again with walking around camp immersing ourselves in the story, return of Jin story and even Lu Bu in XL, and the hypothetical scenarios. Then the robust Ambition Mode comes into play. I could go on and on. That game is simply a complete package.
I have nostalgia bias for Dynasty Warriors 6, but I played the PS2 version which I never knew came after the PS3 version until way later. I don't remember much of the game, but I don't recall it not having Square and Triangle combos. I know the PS2 version gives back the unique weapons that some characters lost in the PS3 version, though, like how Zhang He got his claws back (which I'll always prefer over a spear lol). That aside, yea Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition is definitely my favorite as well, it just feels like the definitive Dynasty Warriors experience.
@@DonCritic Hey that's understandable, I imagine not many people have played the PS2 version since Dynasty Warriors 6 was the first jump to the PS3 that the series had.
Man, I was so hyped for Strikeforce. I thought it was going to be the Monster Hunter of Dynasty Warriors. Oh well, maybe one day they'll retry that formula and do it right. 8 XL Complete is a masterpiece of the series, glad you put it at #1.
I loved DW4, all characters had their own fighting styles and you can create a fighter which you can use for musou mode and can max out his or her stats becoming an unstoppable warrior and destroying Lu Bu and other tough warriors with ease.
The first one I ever played was 4 when I was pretty young. I kind of forgot about it until I got a ps3 many years later and we got 6, I vaguely remembered playing 4 back in the day and got really into it. After I played 7 and 8. The game I played most was 8 Empires. I just recently got 9 for my pc,, and I thought it was ok, certainly not as good as the others
i would honestly buy some fo the warriors games on steam, but their refusal to bring down prices and still sell cut content back to the fans has left a bad taste in my mouth, as a kid, i didn't get it when i was buying the old games and their extreme legends versions, i didn't realize this was cash grabbing, but after a while i just realised it became little more than that and it's sad because i LOVE the hack n slash and over the top acting, good vid
Great review, I gotta say I have to agree with pretty much all of your points about the games that I know about. To me 4 and 5 are equally good, since each have things the other don't. I've spent countless hours playing those, you have no idea how much I love them lmao. I never played any DW past 5, but after watching this I HAVE to try DW8. I mean, how can it top 4 and 5?? Seeing how spot on you've been reviewing the games that I played, I'm going to take your word for it and play it!
Yes! My review of Samurai Warriors 5 is coming out tomorrow and then my ranking video later in the week. If they are popular enough I’m considering ranking all the Samurai Warriors characters and if that does well then I’ll go a step further and rank all 170+ Warriors characters (Orochi/Dynasty/Samurai) 🤯 thanks so much for your support 🙂
@@DonCritic sounds awesome bro. Stumbled across this channel a few times but that sounds like great content. Hope you have fun with SW5 and making content to share with all of us :)
Nice video should i play all games or 8 will fill up all the content from previous titles? I have 8 Xtreme complete edition ,Next and 7 in Vita Backlog.
I have to say I'm surprised you didn't touch on DW5 Destiny Mode. By far one of the best modes that I have ever played and I wish it would make a return!
As soon as I started watching I know the top three would be 8, 4 and 5. I didn't know the order, but I knew that would be the top 3 😂 fantastic franchise, but those three are carrying it hard.
Exactly, and 8 is in there really just cuz it called back so many good things from 4 and 5, and has so much content period. Still have a problem with the 1 vs 1,000 gameplay loop vs being more army centered (which admittedly started with 5 actually), but that’s like one of my only problems with 8 Complete Edition
IMO in terms of combat system, nothing beats the basic combat system (Pre DW5). They sacrificed that with more anime like attacks with braindead AI which I think is less bearable than Zhang Bao screaming "Feel the power of my magicccccc". Literally just hack and slash over and over again with no consequence.
Gonna be honest, was surprised at 7 over 3...but i forgot about the voice acting until you played "MAAAAAAGIC" clip and immediately went...ah, yeah makes sense
Great video, could you rank all musou games there have been released. Like One Piece Warriors, Hyrule Warriors etc. And Musou games there have not been developed by Omega Force
So with my ranking videos, I play the whole games back to back and I won’t lie, there’s so many Musou games out there, it’s not physically possible unless I just rushed through it and played like 30 minutes of each one but that’s not the way I do these videos. In the future I am planning character breakdowns and character rankings of the Dynasty, Orochi and Samurai games though! Starting with DW9 Empires when it comes out in February! 🙂
@@DonCritic I see that's all right, i have mostly played spinoff's like Dragon Quest Heroes, One Piece Warriors, and Hyrule Warriors. But want to get into the Dynasty/Samurai games. What is the difference between DW8 Xtreme Legends and DW8 Empires? 😊
So DW8 Xtreme Legends is the original DW8 game with a new campaign following Lu Bu and a few other extras. DW8 Empires is a side game that doesn’t have the campaigns of DW8, instead you create your own character and conquer all of Ancient China by building your own army, engaging in battles with other factions and journey across China like a board game. Hope this helps! 🙂
I completely agree with your top 3. Knowing how DW games go, I think DW11 would make the top 4. I think DW10 will be damage control and 11 will be the fix
i only played 2-6 with expansions. least to best: 6, 2, 4, 3, 5. One of the major reasons I didn't go past 6 was the character designs and the weapons felling they where aging some of the cast to be more hip with the newer generation of players and the weapon swaps.
All Koei Tecmo games had to do was take the good things they were doing well in 8, and make it even better in 9, but instead we get a 'new route' attempt that fell into the risk they knew they'd be taking if it failed
I loved dynasty warriors 3 , 4 , 5 they was the best I spent some many hours on them games and I liked how each character had their own story which was cool
DW 8XL was awesome but DW4 is near and dear to my heart since it was my first one I played. I had probably 3000+ hours in that game and I remember being a kid and printing off the guides for the ultimate weapons lol
For me strike force was the best back then me and my friends played it on LAN making it more fun and trying out different weapon upgrades and elements was super tight as well
I play 3, 4, and 5 I cannot enjoy the newer ones cause the characters weapons became the a lot of the same especially Gan Ning I love his giant sword! Now he has some chain weapon that like 3 other characters have?
Japan doesn’t acknowledge Dynasty Warriors 1 as part of the Dynasty Warriors canon since it’s a fighting game a la Soul Calibur and as far as Japanese fans are concerned, Dynasty Warriors 2-9 are part of the overall canon
My ranking is basically the same as yours except I would maybe say DW3 is my 3rd place game and DW4 is my 5th place game. Other than that I totally agree
@@DonCritic Yeah I love ranking videos! I'm looking forward to the one about Samurai Warriors. Also I'd love to see videos where you rank all the DW and SW characters, even though I know that's quite the daunting task lol
The 8th game is really fun but it sours the gameplay for me when the Npc Allies do like no help at all. Instead it’s 90% dependent on you to win every game. Now that’s cool and all but extremely unpleasant in chaos mode when u get 1 shotted basically and npcs do not help at all
Yeah, but each game expands more and more on the stories. Dynasty Warriors 1 has no linear narrative, just an opening cutscene and character endings (like traditional fighting games). Dynasty Warriors 2 starts the 3 stories of the Wei, Wu and Shu Dynasties, however the second game is still very light on narrative, it’ll be hard to understand the story. The 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th games continuously expanded the depth that the Three Kingdom story is told. The 7th game featured more cutscenes between levels and is the first game that tells the Three Kingdoms story like a AAA blockbuster video game, it also added a whole new chapter following the Jin Dynasty. The 8th game once again tells the same Three Kingdoms story, including the Jin Dynasty but with a few changes, however the cutscenes aren’t as cinematic as in 7. Dynasty Warriors 9 is the most different, with each of the 90 characters having their own separate campaign and with the game being open world, most of the story is told in dialogue and text boxes with NPC’s rather than cinematic cutscenes. Hope this guide was helpful 🙂
@@DonCritic wow man that was a well written reply, yeah it defo helped and thanks to your review video i decided im gonna play DW8XL 😁 you just made a new DW fan AND got urself a new subscriber 😉⭐
My top 2 would have to be 4 & 7. I loved the extra stuff from both, and even the weapon system from 7. I did not play 8, and 5 did a very poor first impression on me, so I didn't give it a fair chance. Samurai warriors 2 and Warriors Orochi 1-3 are by far my favorites over dynasty games, though
What's funny is that dysnasty warriors taught zelda devs something about open worlds and yet omega force couldn't learn that lesson themselves for 9. I hope they don't trash the combat system in 9 since it has potential.
Dynasty warriors 5XL introduced my favorite character at the time both by design and gameplay Guan Ping son of my all time favorite Guan Yu I'm disappointed in how they made him a generic great sword user after 5 that taking away his cool ass short greatsword fighting style that walking sword spin into the hop slam was favorite thing
While I agree that 8 Complete Edition is unquestionably the best of the post PS2 DW games by FAR, it is really missing on the battlefield immersion of the PS2 era and, believe it or not, DW6. You are now like the epitome of 1 v 1,000 instead of a powerful officer in an army. I hate that, but the game does do so much else right (no clones, great story mode with hypotheticals and all characters represented, 5th and 6th weapons return) that it certainly deserves praise as a top DW game. DW4 is my fave, with 3 + XL being right there with it, then 5 (with XL of course), then 8 CE. DW6 maintained good battlefield immersion, it unfortunately just sucked at everything else.
Dynasty Warriors to bring back the aspect of you just being part of a massive battlefield between two armies. Just start a level on DW8 and see how pitiful your forces are compared to the enemy. Everything is no centered around you instead of two armies duking it out with morale playing a big factor. Too streamlined. It has regressed.
Call me crazy but I loved DW6! Damn sure not the best DW my favorite is 3 and 4 but I liked 6.... Arguably the best graphics of the series and Imo the fighting machanics were nice....I always felt like I was in a Kung Fu movie fighting a crowd of soldiers!! There were many flaws in the game but I got past them quickly!
I dig your review. My favorites were 3 4 and 8. My favorite parts is getting everyone's unique end-game weapon so all the DW's that didnt have that kinda slipped away from me. That and I refused to play them with the english voice acting.
Unfortunately I haven’t, the last AC I played is Origins which I really enjoyed and I hear that Odyssey is more of that but with an Ancient Greece setting, so if you like the more RPG side to AC and you like Greek Mythology then I’d say it’ll be worth your money 🙂 hope this helps
@@mav9562 Both origins and odyssey are essentially an overhaul of the AC combat mechanics. Personally, both are decent games on their own and a good entry point to the series as they have self-contained stories with a few references here and there. They're your typical open-world ubisoft games riddled with markers and side content (albeit repitive) similar to games like Horizon Zero Dawn or Witcher 3. On another note, a different archetype of open-world would be the likes of Breath of the Wild and Subnautica where it's incetiviced to actually explore. I'm not the biggest AC fan so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt. Although 25$ for Odyssey or Origins is a fantastic deal regardless
I just recently started getting into Dynasty Warriors because a few of them are on the gamepass, I loved 7 and 8 but I couldn't beat 8 because I couldnt unlock the other levels so I decided to buy 9 on sale... I'm definitely disappointed but I cant wait for empires version to come out because it's always been the more fun part for me and I feel an open world makes more sense with Empires and they should have kept the normal mode for story mode but that's just me...
Same hear and loved the game, DW 3-4-5 were great, I think it went down hill then, no need to even have allies in the 6-7-8 games, in DW 3-4-5 I was constantly looking at the battles on the map to make sure my allies generals were beating the enemy generals
I don't know why people say clones started with DW6 when we had Huang Zhong / Xiahou Yuan before that, as well as Sun Juan / Sun Quan and Liu Bei / Yuan Shao. They differentiated those pairs a bit more in DW5, but 3 and 4 (don't know about 2) they were almost the same. We even called them clone characters back then as well.
They still felt very different the charge attack was different and that was good enough to make them feel unique. The newer games was an complete carbon copy they're way worse with the clone move sets.
Too bad they can’t pull off an Elder Scrolls/Assassin’s Creed style game. That would give Chinese history life and maybe include history lessons that aren’t lies if that’s even possible
Omg I need more dynasty warriors 3 voice lines. The one I really remember. XD "my body may die, but my spirit will live on foreeeevvvaaaaaa"
Usually people remember Lu bu... "Can no one give me a decent challenge?!?" or something like that

Strange how opinions may diverge. The hypotheticals made DW8 my favorite.
Love love love dw8 and dw8xl. Agreed it is The best Dynasty Warriors game ever.
Their own weapons in DW 8XL ? If I remember right, you were able to give nearly any weapon to your characters which was totally non-iconic. But I just played it a bit. After playing DW 4XL for more than 200 hours I wasn´t very motivated to do the same thing over and over.
@@kayus83 You can equip any weapon yes, but every character has their unique/signature weapons.
no character created with greatsword, equals lame
DW 1: Fighting Game
DW 2: New Genre, baby steps
DW 3: Big improvement, series got its identity and most difficult
DW 4: Best one in classic era. Duels, alternate routes, everything is so good.
DW 5: More character focus is really good and controls improved but cut many things. If it didn't cut Duels and Alternate routes it would be perfect
DW 6: Black Sheep. Big disappointment. I rather play fighting game.
DW 7: New route, best story, big improvement.
DW 8: Best one in modern era. So much fun to play.
Haven't played others.
Sounds like you played 1-7. What do you mean you haven’t played others?…
@@savvy_slick DW 9, Empires games except DW 8 empires and spin offs like Strike Force.
Started on 3, really fell in love with 4. 8 is just perfect
Nice man, it’s good to see people who enjoy DW9
Dynasty warriors 6 will always be my favorite. I love the stories being different and crazy
I definitely agree with your assessment for the most part, especially about DW4... which is also my first Shin Sangoku Musou game!
Yeah, Guan Yu is awesome (my favourite kingdom is Shu) thanks so much for watching!
Guan Yu is my favorite aswell
zhao yun
@@vibelikeme3128 one of my favorites aswell, along with ma Chao and wei Yan
My favourite is Wei Faction, and the character is Yu Jin and Cao Cao.
Great reviewed for the DW5
Agree with the Soundtrack + my favorite DW
Funny to see this on my recommended feed. Was on the fence which DW I should from steam these past few days! Will probably get both 7 and 8
Good choices 🙂
Number 5 has to hold the #1 rank and then 4. Just the pinnacle of DW.
Avid Warriors gamer here since DW3, you're list is spot on. DW8XL is the best one hands down
Thank you for watching!
Good video I think it's crazily common how many British people I've come across that are fans of this series it's pretty common at this point. It's a good series your ranking makes sense. I'd like to see one on warriors Orochi and samurai warriors
Warriors Orochi is on the channel already, check for my Warriors Retrospective playlist, Samurai Warriors ranking is coming this month!! 🙂
@@DonCritic ok
God those 1v1 duels with lubu were terrifying. Impossible if he didn't love spamming his standard heavy attack. Most badass move in gaming though
I wish that DW8 to have individual unit morale like DW5
This is a good review on ranking dynasty warriors I agree with half the list I'd say my top 5 would differ from yours.
1) Dynasty Warriors 5
2) Dynasty Warriors 4
3) Dynasty Warriors 3
4) Dynasty Warriors 8
5) Dynasty Warriors 7
Thanks, great list!
@@DonCritic How is it great out side of it existing? Id like know whats the main difference between 7 and 8, because i good list is one that doesn't have unnecessary listings
THANK YOU! this brought me back. Im getting 8
Yeah they’re just really solid packages. Lots of content and all of it fun
I haven’t played the PS2 version, I didn’t even know it was that different.
@@DonCritic
Hey that's understandable, I imagine not many people have played the PS2 version since Dynasty Warriors 6 was the first jump to the PS3 that the series had.
Man, I was so hyped for Strikeforce. I thought it was going to be the Monster Hunter of Dynasty Warriors. Oh well, maybe one day they'll retry that formula and do it right.
8 XL Complete is a masterpiece of the series, glad you put it at #1.
Thanks so much for your kind comment, glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
I liked strike force at the time it wasn't bad at all it can't be replayed now though
I'm glad I started with 5,, Ling Tong keess me going back to the series every now and then
my fav dw got to be dy5xl the legend mod by far my fav mod in the series i wish they bring back that mod nice list btw 👍
Gotta agree with 8XL+8 being the peak DW experience. Love it.
Thus may be the first games I have ever played so happy to know that im not the only person who play this
Really good review and my favourite Dynasty Warriors is also 8, my least favourite is 7
Thanks for watching 🙂
I loved DW4, all characters had their own fighting styles and you can create a fighter which you can use for musou mode and can max out his or her stats becoming an unstoppable warrior and destroying Lu Bu and other tough warriors with ease.
Great Sword! My love of giant anime swords is entirely due to DW4
Only mainline where you can use a CAW in Story Mode for Dynasty Warriors
My favorite game is DW8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition. I like how it's a complete game and it fixes the issues that DW7 had.
Loved the og dynasty warriors!
DW6 on my PS2 was my first one and been hooked since
I agree with this order 👍 nice video
Thank you! 🙏
i would honestly buy some fo the warriors games on steam, but their refusal to bring down prices and still sell cut content back to the fans has left a bad taste in my mouth, as a kid, i didn't get it when i was buying the old games and their extreme legends versions, i didn't realize this was cash grabbing, but after a while i just realised it became little more than that and it's sad because i LOVE the hack n slash and over the top acting, good vid
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed my video!!
Personally 6 was my favorite, started playing 8 after this video to see what everyone talks about
Have a good time
Nice, will you be doing a samurai warriors one with 5 out this week?
Having played DWs 3-8, I can only rate those.
For me its;
1. 4/XL
2. 5/XL
3. 3/XL
4. 8/XL
5. 7/XL
6. 6
Nice video should i play all games or 8 will fill up all the content from previous titles? I have 8 Xtreme complete edition ,Next and 7 in Vita Backlog.
Playing 8 will be fine, each game retells the same story arcs 🙂
@@DonCritic Ohh so its a fifa type thanks 😁
No problem, anytime 🙂
I have to say I'm surprised you didn't touch on DW5 Destiny Mode. By far one of the best modes that I have ever played and I wish it would make a return!
People actually say DW6 is worse than DW9? 😭 DW6 was a working-fully realized game.
My Favorite has to be Dw4XL for the xtreme Mode, had so much fun playing it
IMO in terms of combat system, nothing beats the basic combat system (Pre DW5). They sacrificed that with more anime like attacks with braindead AI which I think is less bearable than Zhang Bao screaming "Feel the power of my magicccccc". Literally just hack and slash over and over again with no consequence.
I didn´t know about this series, which is unforgivable as I´m an orientalist and like gaming.
There’s always time to get into it. If you’re on modern consoles or PC you have the choice of Dynasty Warriors 8 or Dynasty Warriors 9!
Spartan, I have a modded version of Dw8 xl PC edition. If you would like I can share it to you on Icedrive.
For me DW4, DW5 and DW6 Special for PS2 are by far my favourite DW games of the Franchise, no debate whatsoever. ✌☯️
It got me interested in history
Me too!
Gonna be honest, was surprised at 7 over 3...but i forgot about the voice acting until you played "MAAAAAAGIC" clip and immediately went...ah, yeah makes sense
😂 yeah DW3 is a little aged, DW7 I really enjoyed
@@DonCritic Thank you very much, really appreciate it 👍
You’re welcome ☺️
You ever play the mmo? I only ask because I feel like the only one who has xD
I haven’t as unfortunately on PS3 it only came out in Japan
I completely agree with your top 3. Knowing how DW games go, I think DW11 would make the top 4. I think DW10 will be damage control and 11 will be the fix
5 is by far my favourite, I'm not a fan of the franchise but I absolutely love 5 and it's spin offs
Was 6 the one where you had the skill tree where you could spec each character with either longer combos or extra buffs?
Yes!
i only played 2-6 with expansions. least to best: 6, 2, 4, 3, 5. One of the major reasons I didn't go past 6 was the character designs and the weapons felling they where aging some of the cast to be more hip with the newer generation of players and the weapon swaps.
Great list! 5 is so much fun! Will you be trying out the new Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires when it comes out in February?
@@DonCritic No. The franchise is done for me. The open world looks kinda boring.
I my favorite games are 4, 5 , 7 and 8. I played 9 and to me it's not all that bad but I just hope 9 Extreme legends could do better.
All Koei Tecmo games had to do was take the good things they were doing well in 8, and make it even better in 9, but instead we get a 'new route' attempt that fell into the risk they knew they'd be taking if it failed
Accurate list ^^
Thank you, happy to hear you liked the video 🙂
When a shadow strikes…only death remains 🥶
I loved dynasty warriors 3 , 4 , 5 they was the best I spent some many hours on them games and I liked how each character had their own story which was cool
I really liked 2 its one of my personal favorites ^^
Dynasty Warriors 5, 7 and 8 is my favourite games.
DW 8XL was awesome but DW4 is near and dear to my heart since it was my first one I played. I had probably 3000+ hours in that game and I remember being a kid and printing off the guides for the ultimate weapons lol
For me strike force was the best back then me and my friends played it on LAN making it more fun and trying out different weapon upgrades and elements was super tight as well
Dw6 is my favorite. I love everything about it. Except the clones.
Hey i have one question when i can find list of missions from that series which are unpasable with bow only?
Why isn't there a classic collection from Dw1 to Dw5 so people can play the best dw games on newer consoles?
I play 3, 4, and 5 I cannot enjoy the newer ones cause the characters weapons became the a lot of the same especially Gan Ning I love his giant sword! Now he has some chain weapon that like 3 other characters have?
8:40 How can the dude survive a stoning?
Dian Wei was famed in his time for being uncannily strong and Koei exaggerated this a lot in Dynasty Warriors 😂
My first dynasty Warriors game was dynasty Warriors 6 I regret I didn't play it more
Japan doesn’t acknowledge Dynasty Warriors 1 as part of the Dynasty Warriors canon since it’s a fighting game a la Soul Calibur and as far as Japanese fans are concerned, Dynasty Warriors 2-9 are part of the overall canon
My ranking is basically the same as yours except I would maybe say DW3 is my 3rd place game and DW4 is my 5th place game. Other than that I totally agree
Thanks so much! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 🙂
@@DonCritic Yeah I love ranking videos! I'm looking forward to the one about Samurai Warriors. Also I'd love to see videos where you rank all the DW and SW characters, even though I know that's quite the daunting task lol

@@DonCritic Love to hear it and looking forward to all those videos:)

Thank you for watching Corey! Yeah I hope they give Dynasty Warriors 10 more budget and time to make one memorable experience
Favorite is DW4, but atm I’m playing through DW9 and I’m enjoying the game so far. Also DW6 is my least favorite out of the series
The 8th game is really fun but it sours the gameplay for me when the Npc Allies do like no help at all. Instead it’s 90% dependent on you to win every game. Now that’s cool and all but extremely unpleasant in chaos mode when u get 1 shotted basically and npcs do not help at all
I dare say dynasty warriors 6 had the best gaming engine and flow of movement
Noob question here, is the storymode the same across all games ?

Dynasty warriors 5XL introduced my favorite character at the time both by design and gameplay
Guan Ping son of my all time favorite Guan Yu I'm disappointed in how they made him a generic great sword user after 5 that taking away his cool ass short greatsword fighting style that walking sword spin into the hop slam was favorite thing
Guilty pleasure...best descriptor, would go as far as shameful, I never publicly admit to how many hours I sunk into the PS2 era games of this series.
Haha 😂 I can relate. Wanting to clear that minimap of all the Red enemies, in every single battle
I thought im the only one who like DW6. Ngl the graphic is actually really good after the remake one
I dig your review. My favorites were 3 4 and 8. My favorite parts is getting everyone's unique end-game weapon so all the DW's that didnt have that kinda slipped away from me. That and I refused to play them with the english voice acting.
Thanks so much!! I’m hoping 9 Empires can revive the series 🤞
Hey man, did you played ac odyssey and is it worth 25$
Unfortunately I haven’t, the last AC I played is Origins which I really enjoyed and I hear that Odyssey is more of that but with an Ancient Greece setting, so if you like the more RPG side to AC and you like Greek Mythology then I’d say it’ll be worth your money 🙂 hope this helps
@@DonCritic God of war series is my favorite so yeah i love greek mythology. I havent played any ac before, is gameplay good in origins?
@@amadeux5471 Thank you
3, 3 extreme legends and 5 were the all time best
I loved this series but my foray back into it was 8. I think the series aged poorly for me but I may give it a second chance.
I want to play one, but the dlcs will make me feel like im missing out :(
Im definitely not paying $250 for a game :')
Start with Origins that comes out next year. Looks to be one of the best ones
How can't you beat all of the stages in dw8? Are you talking about the hypothetical routes?
A badass dynasty warriors would be if they combined this with total war.
Yes!
My first one is DW3, loved the horrible voice acting.
DW4 and DW5 are the most unique ones for me..
