I saw the fancy looking triple Karmeliet glass. And i was a little disappointed there was a different beer in there. I can really recommend it, one of my favorites.
I always love your videos. My mother and i have always dreamed of traveling but are too poor. Watching you guys helps us feel a bit like we can achieve that dream in some small way
NB : You drunk a orval in a karmeliet glass. I am deeply sorry for this unforgivable mistake. Next time make shure they surve you your beer in the right glass as they should. Again this mistake should not happen, I am a shame for this poor service.
Correction : I don't think you drunk an orval that is a brown beer but a tripel karmeliet that match with the color. My mistake and far less shamefull.
TWO OF THE BEST PEOPLE ON THE PLANET, AND IN THE CITY OF CHOCOLATE????!!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Absolutely right in visiting different chocolate shops, because one isn't enough! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the street art, and exploring. ✨
The guild houses were the headquarters of the different professions, aka guilds, during the (approximately) 1100s to 1800s. The guilds were extremely powerful and usually very rich.
It makes me happy seeing you two together enjoying yourselves. Thanks to Vitali for taking you to Cafe Leffe and selecting such interesting beers for you! I don't drink beer, but the Orval and Kriek both sound especially delicious and refreshing. I'd definitely give them a try. 😋 All the food looked scrumptious and really got my mouth watering. The architecture was amazing--particularly all the gilt accents. Thanks for a wonderful day in Brussels!
Aaaah!! Whenever my husband and I visit Brussels, Aux Merveilleux de Fred is the first thing we visit. We frequently dream about their brioche. Loved seeing it appear in this video 🤭❤
Im half japanese lived in okinawa for 4 yrs my mom is fro. Okinaes and my dad was in the Navy..in 1977 i saw pink kady last show..it was awesome arigato guys
I loved Brussels!! I was there for work and stayed in the hotel right in the middle of town it had a McDonald’s attached to it lol, and right across the street they had a place where I could get bah mi and some good pho and to the right there was a bakery where I could smell fresh baked bread in the morning and would get some on sat, we we’re actually there during Easter which is amazing how different they celebrate it, it was wonderful.. at night time it’s light up with lights.. I was about 6 minute walked from the cathedral, it was so beautiful.. and the seafood omg, also they had this great bar that had a elephant as a sign lol, we stayed at the Grand place.. I miss Brussels, I loved it so much I was looking at apartments lol
You should probably try the mitrailette sandwich and probably also more frites sauces. I think you have missed some very unique friet sauces in the netherlands by the way: The frietje oorlog which is a combination of 2 sauces: Sate sauce and mayonaise with onions (you have to sometimes ask for the onions to be added though) and a Speciaal sauce which is curried ketchup sauce with onions and mayonaise.
We loved Belgium when we visited! Beer, chocolate, waffles and fries, such a dream! And we loved BS40, we also tried their chocolates and absolutely had to bring some home!
I'm glad you guys tried out that cherry lambic (Belle-Vue Kriek). Fruit lambics are boozy desserts in a bottle and I love them all. I just chuckle whenever someone here in the USA, who otherwise is fine with mayonnaise on certain foods, tries to tell me that pommes frites with mayonnaise or similar sauce is gross. The Belgians have it right and, well, they're the ones who came up with the dish, so maybe try it before denying it. The match of that unctuous sauce with the crisp shell and fluffy inside of well-made frites is heavenly, at least to me. Now, I WILL use catsup -- but only if I've mixed it with mayo (and maybe a little yellow mustard) first to make some homemade fry sauce! Samurai sauce is mayonnaise, sambal oelek or harissa (pepper sauces), catsup, and sometimes other ingredients... would be right up my alley!
Belle-Vue is somewhat frowned upon as an "industrial" brewer, especially as there are so many good artisanal Kriek beer brewers around. I prefer tartare sauce, which is mayo with spices (far from Samurai spicy though). Mayo tends to taste bland if you eat too much of it , you avoid that by using tartare instead.
You guys drive me wild with hunger, keep it up. On your return “ Best Coffee in Japan” my wife and I have just finished our 4th visit, we have our own 1-10 scale, best so far at the Minori Gelato Shodoshima, a 10. Them the Blue Botttle Cafe in Kyoto and Tokyo ( but there is variation) and the Powerstone & Cafe Shinsei in Koyasan these are a 9. I leave the rest to you guys. We Aussies love our coffee. PS we were comparing Cappuccinos and Latte. Regards and keep up the eating and drinking, but always with a smile.
I am married to a Belgian. My hubby goes back to Belgium every year to eat and drink real beers! His favorite: Frites and Brochettes. And Belgian beers, of course! There is also, Filet Americain. There is nothing "American" about this Belgian specialty because...It's steak tartare spread in a French baguette! It's so delicious. And he always bring back Pralines for me... By the way, I think the first item that you ate is not Cramique but it's called Craquelin (Sugar bread). Cramique always have raisins in them. Mahalo for tasting all the goodies. We are homesick now...Lol
You mentioned the guilds on the Grand'Place. There is actually still guilds (think like old professional association, corporate but since the medieval era) or at least one : there is the Brewery Guild on the n°10, one of the oldest of the world and almost all Belgian breweries are part to it.
Did you guys check out that shopping area that looks like a tunnel ? Yep you answered my question lol the Royal saint Hubert gallery with all those chocolate shops
Guys, amazing as during my layover yesterday I did hop on/ off in Brussels&gorgeous architecture&the waft of chocolate was enticing&only time for yummy fries with spicy sauce. I think I will return but finally back in Budapest&thanks for eating what I couldn't as it really is a drawcard but keep alert for pickpockets, thanks
Yep you actually eat the waffle by itself . Just a little powder sugar and you’re good to go . And the pannekoeken you eat with some butter and a sprinkle of dark sugar 🤗
Kriek beer is called so, because of its cherry flavor. In old Dutch (which is spoken in The Netherlands and the Flemish part of Belgium) it means " Cherry" (kriek) .I like your video's a lot.
Not exactly: cherries are called KERSEN in Dutch. KRIEKEN look like cherries, but the taste is sour. They are not eaten as a fruit, but used as ingredients in food like Jam, beer. Most KRIEK beers taste sweet because of added sugars, but some more sour. A typical Flemish dish is frikadellen met krieken, which is a sort of meatloaf, served with warm ‘krieken’ in syrup. You can find this that canned in the supermarket.
I like ALL the famous Belgian s[ecialties that you tried. I was in Belgium for a few days years ago. Did you know that Yes they have hundreds of Original Beer types and a hundred different shaped beer glasses?
As a Belgian I never even tried Kramik and the apple cuberdon (did try some other cuberdons). Will try them now! Also wanna go to especially that last chocolate shop.
You are right how sugary cramique (kramiek in Flelmish). Even though we use the word Kramiek in Flemish, locals just call it 'suikerbrood' (sugar bread).
Belgium is famous for its French fries, the secret is to use animal grease (like duck) and fry them a second time after cooling them. The Samourai sauce is a Belgian mix of mayo, ketchup with some spicy sauce.
Kriek is a fruit lambic beer. Meaning that it is a second brewing and fermentation process. Lambic is a beer made through spontanious fermantation. This is the oldest way of producing alcohol out of sugars. Once you have captured the sugars from the grain, you expose this liquid called wort to free floaing yeasts in the air. This is almost forbidden in the EU because of sanitary safety concerns and only allowed for recognised products. Indeed, it requires knowledge and skill to capture the right yeasts from the air. The result of this process is left to mature in oak barrels and the result is a flat (almost no carbonisation) funky herbal and sour tasting beer. Now the second maturing process starts. The brewer wil mix different batches of lambic to soften the flavour, get more carbanisation and ad depth by putting them on barrels for several years, letting the beer mature. This is called Geuze. OR he can mix the lambic with sugar, thus creating Faro OR he can put the lambic on barrel, mixed with fruit. Traditionally the brewers would have used local sour cherries (krieken in Flemish Dutch). Hence the name "Kriek". But any fruit can be used. De Troch is a brewer that specialises in making a wide variety of these fruit lambics, even with tropical fruit, to balance out the sour lambic. These beers age really wel and can be kept for several years, especially the Geuze can be kept for at least a decade while the beer will mature and evolve in palette.
You don’t know what Gilden houses are? A Gilden house is an old kind of company house. In the early days an occupation like a leather worker would unite them selves in a Gilde. That Gilde guarded the quality of the profession and only if you were good enough you could become a part of it. Of course you had to pay for it too. With that collected money those Gilden houses were built.
So cute seeing and hearing you react to the Grand-Place! Meanwhile I grew up in Brussels and whenever I have to walk through the Grote Markt I don’t ever look up anymore 😂 One thing I always note as a big difference between friet in Belgium and the Netherlands is that Dutch mayonnaise is always so much sweeter so I prefer Belgian mayonnaise! Glad you had a nice trip and enjoyed yourselves 😊
there is probably already a comment saying this, but just in case: about the city hall... Did you know there are two mistakes in this city hall? They are very visible in your pictures. The first one is that both sides of the building aren't the same length, while it was built in a barok time when symmetry was highly valued (though today it is not the case anymore). The second one is much worse: the main door is off centre. You can see the big column descending from the tower, ending just above the main door, but not at it's centre. Legend says that when the building was finished and the architect noticed that he killed himself by jumping from the top of the tower. Also the little sculpture on top of the tower is Saint Michael killing a dragon; He's one of the two protector saints of the city (with the other being Sainte Gudule (french name, Sint Goedele in flemish)).
"Kriek" is a name in dutch, it's not french. Kriek is a cherry variety from the region in Brussels that does not taste sweet but sour. The Kriek that you're drinking there is not the traditional because it has added sugar. So the fruit "kriek" looks like a cherry, but tastes sour and the fruit is lighter red than a cherry. The name is used in Brussels, in Flanders, but not in the Netherlands (they call it sour cherries).
About the Manneken pis : He is wearing "une penne" and "une toge" that are the closing by the student in the belgian folklore. With the color you can say what they study, but I am from Liège and the color here don't mean the same than in Bruxelle. If you search for "comités de baptèmes belges", you wil get the idear of what I am talking about.
kriek is a beer that teens often drink as their first beer ever (drinking beer is allowed as of age 16 in Belgium). It's name literally is Flemish for black sherry.
The beer is called kriek because it's made from krieken wich are the dark red almost burgundy coloured cherries. In Flemish we have two words for different types of cherries kersen and krieken. 😉✌
That was actually not an Orval glass but a Tripel Karmeliet glass, which is probably why they didn’t show the logo on the other side. Personally I think Tripel Karmeliet is one of the best beers we have to offer from Belgium. There’s a specialised beer bar in Brussels called Delirium not far from the Grand Place, they have about 2000 beers on offer.
first 10 seconds and i alrdy saw some tourist traps, waffles go with powdered sugar and/or whipped cream, no more. the liege waffle is just plain, fries is with mayo

Personally I think brussel waffels are all texture no taste. That’s why there are many toppings available. Liege waffels is where it’s at. No toppings, not even powdered sugar. It’s already a bit sugary and so delicious freshly made
Loved it! I’m Belgian and had to correct a small thing that’s very sensitive for Belgians. Brussel is t the capital of Flanders ;) its the capital of Belgium. The capital of Flanders (Dutch speaking part) is Antwerpen and of Wallonia (French speaking part) is Namur Brussels has it own region (bilingual) and lays in Flanders but doesn’t belong to either Flanders or Wallonia ;) That aside it’s great videos. But know that every region in Belgium has different kind of waffles. And it’s a dessert here not like in America eaten at breakfast or dinner.
Satoshi’s reasoning to be in Belgium “to eat waffle and drink beer” is so perfect!!
Living the dream
I saw the fancy looking triple Karmeliet glass. And i was a little disappointed there was a different beer in there. I can really recommend it, one of my favorites.
Those waffles are amazing
I always love your videos. My mother and i have always dreamed of traveling but are too poor. Watching you guys helps us feel a bit like we can achieve that dream in some small way
I hope you can travel somewhere in the future
Hi Shinichi and Satoshi good to see lm enjoy this video thanks for sharing take care guys 😘😘❤️😍🤩🥰🙏🌈💯🌹🌹
It was a joy to see how Belgium's culinary delights brought so much pleasure to both of you.
Hey guys! Don’t forget to let us know which item you’re craving most! Thanks for watching!
The fries with samurai sauce made me salivate.
Welcome to Brussels guys ! Can't believe you're in my hometown😊
We had a blast!

The bar with the pink elephant is the "Delirium Tremens" because pink elephants is what you see when you get drunk.
waffle with strawberries/chocolate/whipped Cream looked so good! chocolates looked yummy also

Beautiful Trappist beers! I so want to visit Brussels again
How did i missed this video? is sooo cool, i love how you showcase the beauty of the city + the awesome food! Big hugs to both of you!
Fluffy caramel merengue sounds amazing.
Satoshi and his beer. I love it!! Thanks for another great video!! You guys are AWESOME!!!😁

It's called Kriek because it's made from cherries, dutch translation being kriek. Not sure why that was such a weird thing to your friend.
Thank you very much for visiting and promoting Brussels!
Wow! Need to come to Brussels! :D
I am married to a Belgian. My hubby goes back to Belgium every year to eat and drink real beers! His favorite: Frites and Brochettes. And Belgian beers, of course!

You mentioned the guilds on the Grand'Place. There is actually still guilds (think like old professional association, corporate but since the medieval era) or at least one : there is the Brewery Guild on the n°10, one of the oldest of the world and almost all Belgian breweries are part to it.
ブラッセルには3年ほど住んでいました。大変懐かしいです。来年あたりまた行ってみようと思います。ムール貝、フリット、ウォーターズーイ、全部食べたいです。

The Samourai sauce is a Belgian mix of mayo, ketchup with some spicy sauce.
There are no "French" fries in Belgium. Not a single one. The fat is beef (ossewit / blanc de boeuf).
@@flitsertheo I didn't came up with that name :D
Thanks for the additional information.

I lived one year in Bruxelles during a student exchange and I love to see again this beautiful city with your eyes
Would love to visit Italy in the near future
The second waffle is made with a yeast dough/batter, i believe.

Kriek is a dialect word (flemish) for cherries! :)
It's not dialect, krieken are sour cherries, kersen are sweet cherries.
Great vid guys and thanks ! I m living 2 kms from Fred but I never try it lol . See you
So cute seeing and hearing you react to the Grand-Place! Meanwhile I grew up in Brussels and whenever I have to walk through the Grote Markt I don’t ever look up anymore 😂

kriek is a beer that teens often drink as their first beer ever (drinking beer is allowed as of age 16 in Belgium). It's name literally is Flemish for black sherry.
started looking at flights to brussels after this
They fry the fries in beef tallow. that is why it tastes so good 🤤
I recommend you go to Sicily, it is beautiful in summer 😁
Yes, but do they have Belgian fries ?
Greetings from Brussels, 2 kms from Grd Place....🇧🇪🍀🍀🍀
In Flemish a "kriek" is a sour cherry whilst a "kers" is a sweet cherry.
Yes those Trappist beers are so tasty, but they lack a major alcoholic kick.
The beer is called kriek because it's made from krieken wich are the dark red almost burgundy coloured cherries.
In Flemish we have two words for different types of cherries kersen and krieken. 😉✌
If you have the opportunity you should really try the beers from la chouffe! The blond, soleil and cherry one :-)
Belgian food is the best ❤
😂 Really? I don't think so
It looked like cold weather 😮
Yes, an open blue sky in winter means very cold freezing weather.
Oh my, love the energy of your content. Like and follow immidietly
Yay, thank you!
I have that Orval glass. No idea why; I recall someone bringing one back for me from Belgium. I drink German wheat beer out of it....
That was actually not an Orval glass but a Tripel Karmeliet glass, which is probably why they didn’t show the logo on the other side. @@AngeloCucovaz you are right; I meant to say I had that glass rather than the Orval one! Words... Confuse..
Beer heaven country ❤
so glad i came across your channel before our trip to belgium. so much fun watching you and i love how you both describe each and every food you eat.
Thanks so much! 😊
'Kriek' in some Dutch/Flemish dialects means cherry actually.
Dont forget the New York style architecture.
Oraval? In a Karmeliet glass?
HELLO 😋 😋 😋 Is I'm commenting ALL MY FAVS THANK U MUCH ❤
first 10 seconds and i alrdy saw some tourist traps, waffles go with powdered sugar and/or whipped cream, no more. the liege waffle is just plain, fries is with mayo
Belgium have the best food in Europe
No, Italy and Greece have the best food in the world while Belgium is ranked 27th place. Don’t write lies
hi I am from thailan big fan
Love Aux Merveilleux de Fred! Not Belgian though. It is from Lille, France 🇫🇷
You should not get the Liège waffle with toppings. That's a tourist trap. Toppings only on the Brussels style waffle
Even Brussels waffels with those fancy toppings are a tourist trap. Acceptable toppings are : white powder sugar, strawberries and cream.
Watch you guys later love your videos and toshisan and shinichi i told my other u tuber in okinawa they u tube arimasu kit zakimi she u tuber in oki i love traveling and nihon foid lije gyoza and ramen to curry to tempura my fav foods

Brussels is the capital of the Flemish region not the French region
Capital from Belgium😂😂😂😂
Each guild house had a certain craft.

liege waffke is a dogh and brussels waffle is a batter
The Orval is in the wrong glass. This is punishable by death in Belgium.
Kriek is the race of the cherries they use to make the beer.
Note that the first shop is definitely French :p
Guess were i was born sassabo 1968 raint3 day
