      @@bevbryant8272 Def True! I guess it depends on what people are looking for though. I have spoken with people in Hollywood who moved from Miami for a less hectic area, people moved to put their children in Broward schools, or people work in Ft. Lauderdale. For me I would love to live perhaps on Miami Beach, but right now living at my family's home is the most affordable choice while saving, although not my ideal location. I've lived in Hollywood for a short period while in my late 20's between 1998-2001 and I had a great time there. I think it's less for a specific demographic based on age and more for people who want to get away and live a peaceful life with lots of choice to enjoy the outdoors. A lot more young people are opting for that lifestyle.

Average 1bdrm is $1200-1500+ you can maybe find a cheaper efficiency but it probably won’t be remodeled or in newer condition. If you look to live with roommates you can pay a lot less. We are in the demographic that you say H'wood is geared for but I am sorry that there are not more millennials. Although it's great that 60+ feel so free to do what they want, it's nice to have a mix. Some may move from areas that are too out of reach (SF, LA) so be careful what you wish for! Thanks again! Keep the good info coming-I love your nuanced take. (but what about Yellow & Green?-we love it!)

    • @LindseyDara
      @LindseyDara  4 года назад

      Awww thank you for your thoughtful feedback! In spite of not many friends around, I still feel at home here. I have many fond memories growing up here visiting my grandma and going to the beach and all the different things to do around here! I use to go to yellow green more about 3-4 years ago. It was less crowded better prices and free to park! You could park literally right next to the building and walk right in. I use to go to the chill bar for brunch a lot and could literally drive right up to the restaurant. These days that’s impossible and now I you must pay to park and walk like 10 minutes. Which isn’t a huge deal, I just remember the ease of the convenience before. I think it’s almost out growing that location or they need to add another location bc I know people who drive from all over to go there. It still has its charms, but I do like when it was smaller and less commercialized. But when something is good people hear about it and it grows, and fast!!

    I agree with your strongest con. I was born and raised in Miami, Fl and lived just outside of Coral Gables and people are vibrant, energetic, look at each other when passing each other which at the time I thought was something normal that happened everywhere. When I moved to Hollywood I noticed people walk around as if they had blinders on with a tunnel vision just in the direction they're going. Like if I'm living in zombie land! After 2 1/2 years I've kind of gotten used to it but sure do miss the vibrant energy of Miami. And Key Biscayne in Miami is breathtakingly beautiful with its beaches and Bill Baggs state park with its lighthouse and Stitsville.

      @@LindseyDara No, I bought an apartment here already and once I take root it's hard to move again for me. I moved to Hollywood after my father passed away and left me and two of my sisters an apartment house which we sold and divided the money between us. I wanted to own 100% not owe any money and Hollywood was cheaper than Miami for a condo purchase. I bought in Hillcrest in a building that used to be HOPA/55+ but is no longer the case or else I wouldn't have been able to purchase it. Downtown has art walk, the festivals , tons of secret speakeasies, bars, parking, condos that are affordable, we have the circuit that picks you up for free when you are drunk, food truck Mondays, live concerts ( I saw cypress hill and 311) we have the famous improv in Dania, top5 beach in the US we are actually ranked. Amazing weather and very good people. GOIA pizza is world class and amazing check it out . And the locals know each other.

I do have a family now, and we love Hollywood for the laidback vibe, & there's plenty of things for the kids to do. We've been here a few years, we like the local parks, zoos ect. But yes downtown hollywood and the boardwalk needs a major makeover. yes, you have to drive, which in south Florida, with the amount of people moving here, its super congested. The hip areas where younger population I'd definitely say the Grove, and South Beach. It wasn't easy making friends anywhere & that's true. Its not the most friendliest place to live either. That's Why I like the beach. It's Definitely more laid back. This Is a meltingpot, a big mixture of all ethnicity & cultures which gives it that name, "Magic City".

      All the places along the beach are great, you can't go wrong! north beach is quieter and more low rise 2 story houses and buildings and south beach of Hollywood it gets more urban beach vibes, especially towards Hallandale, more high rise buildings. Middle beach where most of the touristy area is, is a mix of buildings and restaurants. There are two neighborhoods over the bridge on the mainland called, north and south lake, very nice area, and on sheridan street towards the beach are some nice apartments about .5 mile from the beach. Anywhere close to the beach in general is going to be a nice area, so you should have any problems finding something you like! All the best!

I would add that half of Hollywood is expensive and the other half is very cheap, the areas that are not expensive can be very VERY sloppy, with many poor areas. Another thing is that everything is far and you need to have a car to get to places.... public transportation is very bad.

    It sounds like a nice place in general but I hear what you're saying. Many coastal areas can have that vibe especially these days when property prices virtually prohibit younger people moving in. That said, I have a little property in a tiny village just off the coast in Andalusia, Spain, and everything is very seasonal. It's either deathly quiet or heaving with visitors. No car parking fees and great food. That's just my holiday place though. I live and work in Birmingham, U.K, because there are more opportunities and it pays better. I do plan to retire in Spain and I'll be one of those oldies living the life.

Here is South Florida people live here year round, except in winter which is the high season here, population increases around 25% or so, so traffic gets bad and prices of food and things go up. I do miss the chill vibes of the Spain coastal cities. Its def a special experience!

    My grandparents moved to Hollywood from the northeast in the early 1950s, but only stayed for one year. My father moved to the Gulf Coast of FL in 1980, and I moved to Hollywood Beach in 1990, right on A1A with a beautiful Intracoastal view, across the street from the Broadwalk and beach, and loved it ($700/mo for a 2/2!). I once ran a 5K race in TY Park in the early 90s. I relocated to another area of FL in 2000, but visit Hollywood Beach every couple of years sometimes seriously think about moving back in retirement. Sunny isles is more upscale than hollywood. It has a high population density and only one main road so traffic can be heavy at times, but the beach is beautiful and lots of restaurants within walking distance. They have recently built a lot of very high modern luxury buildings there as well. It is known as little Moscow for it’s high Slavic Russian speaking population, so don’t be surprised if you hear a lot of Russian! Hebrew is common as well. It is well connected to Miami Beach and Aventura, so that area is very Desiréable for its location. So, all in all, if the price is right, it might be a good opportunity for you! I have a video driving through Sunny isles, so you might want to check it out!

But I don’t think they allow golf carts on the boardwalk as I’ve never seen people with them besides the beach patrol. Plus the boardwalk can get pretty congested, especially during winter and spring (high season). But you can ride bikes or rent these buggy things to ride on the boardwalk they work by peddling like a bike so they don’t go very fast. Hope that helps! Thanks for commenting!

      If you are looking to get a vacation property along the beach, no problem, very safe. I’d recommend to stay east of US 1 (federal highway) or around the downtown area. Which is the most popular areas for vacation homes. Hallandale area along the beach is very nice too. Sunny isles is south of Hallandale but it can be a lot more expensive. Most of the sketchy areas are along Dixie highway or US1, but those areas aren’t popular for vacation properties, so you probably won’t be looking there. If you look close to the beach you’ll be fine. Hollywood also has the neighborhoods of north and south lake which is a lovely area biking distance from the beach. Hope this helps! I dont know,as there is alot of older people,I feel it's kind of cycling out now as those people are in their end of days and the younger crowds are moving in..Especially if you find yourself living in more of the newer construction multi family housing properties. I think there is literally 5 people in my neighborhood over 40.You just have to be in the right area in Hollywood kind of like get in where you fit in.Youll have your younger millennials in one area,your retired in one area,then your family suburban areas and then your mostly Jewish family/religious area between Sheridan and stirling, your Seminole tribe on and off reservation area..most people in the Hollywood area stick with people they have known forever and no one goes out in Hollywood to meet new people,that is Ft Lauderdale/mid town/Brickell/downtown and coconut Grove area.Hollywood is just an amazing place to live and not have to deal with the congestion of the more lively areas.Hollywood is where everyone ends up after living in the Hotspots and get fed up lol

      The area around hardrock (state road 7) isn't the best area, so I would avoid that, but between I95- and 56avenue (west of 95) near TY Park and the YMCA is mostly residential with lots of different types of housing such as condos, townhomes and single family homes. West of State road 7 is more residential and it might be a little cheaper, but I am not totally sure because I haven't been out that way in a while. But really, hollywood has all different price points. Check zillow and put in your requirements to see what options would fit your budget. Congrats on your work. I have to respectfully disagree with many things you point out as cons. In fact, it sounds like you have only been here for a very short while. Something as simple as the beach parking rates...you didn’t mention that Hollywood residents rates are discounted by 50%. Also, the average age on the beach varies just as it does in every other city with beach. The Arizona st beach vollyball groups are all young. The airport is actually in the city limits of Hollywood, not near it. Parts that maybe you could have mentioned is that it is right between Miami and Fort Lauderdale with less COLA costs. It has three major thoroughfares/highways making anything easily accessible. You are right that denser population centers like Brickell and DT Lauderdale have more millennials, but they are paying through the roof to do so. South Florida in general is devoid of cultural activities unfortunately!

    • @LindseyDara
      @LindseyDara  3 года назад

      Thank you for response, yes I definitely didn’t mention everything I could, but just speaking from my own experience. Everybody has a different experience that will affect their perspective. I have lived in Hollywood since 2010, so I wouldn’t say im new to the area. I mention early in the video coming here as a child to visit my grandparents, so I’ve seen it change over time. Whenever I look up the airport address, it shows a Ft Lauderdale airport address on Google, so I always thought it was technically in Ft. Lauderdale, but maybe that’s wrong. It’s true they have a parking permit for locals, which I did know about but i didn’t know it was 50% less. When I looked into it several years ago, it was expensive to apply for and then the rates were only for certain garages or areas from what I could tell, so I didn’t think it was worth it for me, but I did go and look now and it appears the permit is a better deal now and free to apply for. Or maybe I was looking into the wrong permit before. Anyway, something to look into, thank you! Overall, I do love Hollywood, I guess I just have to meet more people here. I had many friends come and go, but that’s true for south Florida in general. Anyway, thank you for watching and commenting!

      I’m moving out of Fort Lauderdale after a year (LBTS area) and I’m looking all over SF for a stylish place with an exciting vibe, but also grown up and not too trashy and drunk, and close to the beach.

    • @LindseyDara
      @LindseyDara  4 года назад +2

      Actually if you’re single, anywhere betweeb US1 and the beach. Hollywood Downtown is cool, most retirees in Hollywood live west of 95. But Hollywood Downtown, Fort Lauderdale downtown, all along the beach corridor, Deerfield, coconut creek, Delray Beach in palm beach county is really cool. Typically if your single I stay 95 and East. If your with a family and want a house and backyard, the suburbs are west of 95. There are some areas areas in Miami that are chill and cool like Mimo area, coconut grove, coral gables. Outside of the downtown if you wanted to check that out. Also surfside is cool and north beach more chill. I put out a video of that recently. If you have any other questions, let me know!

No real class, nothing positive around! You nailed it when you said it for the older demographic! It’s pretty boring for anyone young who doesn’t wanna dope up and get drunk all over around homeless and proletariat! You also got it right about no good restaurant choices!! You have to drive the hell out of here far far away to get a decent meal if you want a break from cooking at home. I liked your video. Hope I didn’t offend you directly. You made great points and all the pure truth!! I have lived here since 1992 and am OVER IT!!

      -there are no homeless people sprawled out in downtown nor the beach feinding for drugs. Maybe back in 2007-2014.
      - there are tons of positive people I’m sure you attract negative ones
      -there are tons of places to eat on the beach and downtown. Roughly over 90 restaurants and bars . On top of the food hall that just opened. Food has never been a problem.
      - if you don’t like Hollywood then why are here ? Check out Wyoming or Delaware.
      Hollywood has the best beach, underground bars, pool halls, tons of food , food truck Mondays, central to the airport, the water, the hard rock casino, margaritaville etc

I wouldn’t worry too much though, because Hollywood is close to a lot of other areas. I like Hollywood beach still, great for riding bikes, and just walking around. You should make an updated video. About the REAL Hollywood. You call yourself a millennial and say that there isn’t much to do and restaurants are struggling? Have you been out in downtown hollywood lately? Or we’re in hollywood do you live because west of I95 is what you are describing. Definitely not East of I95. Mostly Everyone living at the bee building Circ and the née developments coming up would completely disagree with you. The hollywood chamber of commerce a should watch this video. Your Pros are sane pros for any city or town near the beach. But it doesn’t look like you go there much. Add real facts… real images and videos. This doesn’t help to learn what Hollywood’s atmosphere is. sorry if I am blunt about my comments but they are so true. Thanks for the video though.

    • @LindseyDara
      @LindseyDara  2 года назад

      Thank you for watching! I did ask for comments, so I appreciate that. Like I said at the beginning, It’s just my experience after 10 years in Hollywood, yours could be completely different. You should make your own video, as an alternative perspective. For me, It was fun at first, in 2010-2012 I did go out a lot more, went downtown, had more friends, but people come and go fast, after a few years, Hollywood lost its charm. Lots of places closed, or just became run down. But perhaps it has been going through a revitalization which is great! I always had high hopes for Hollywood. It’s a great location. Just hope they get rid of that Hollywood beach resort soon lol
      But actually no I haven’t been downtown lately, bc I moved away after making this video. I made it during lockdown in April of 2020, so I was a bit more bored than usual since everything but publix was closed even the beach and parks (cue pale skin). I lived at home to save money and really it wouldn’t make sense for me to spend $3,000 a month in an apartment at circ, when I live right down the street for free. (But if someone wants to pay my rent, I’ll happily move in and remake this video from a real Hollywood location 😉) humor aside, If you want more real footage, I have plenty of footage of downtown Hollywood on my other videos, though one day when I move back I will update them. ruclips.net/video/hSUNxbHWw00/видео.html thanks for watching, maybe you can show me around when I get back.

      One thing that surprised me that you mentioned was having to travel half an hour to see friends because when I have lived in Florida I found that’s just the way it is. It’s not like a big city where everything is close by and it’s often common for people to meet somewhere that’s anywhere between 10 and 20 miles away, unfortunately.

      They have this dance bar in downtown Hollywood called Spice, you can’t miss it walking by, and there are a few other places along the strip, there is a Biergarten or two, axe throwing, lots of restaurants, so it has its own little vibe, but if you want more bigger city vibe, Fort Lauderdale is only about 12-15 minutes away and they have a lot more nightlife options. It’s cheap to Uber, most nightlife areas in Fort Lauderdale are on Himmarshee street, there is a place on las Olas called Yolo, used to be popular, I think it still is, but himmarshee has a lot of bars and options. Actually in my Fort Lauderdale video ruclips.net/video/_uXdh9iJPUQ/видео.html betweeb 10:05-10:35 is the going out area. It’s daytime and that was during quarantine so you don’t see many people out, but everything is open now.
