What we find magical about watercolor is what frightens a lot of people away from it. Sadly I have never been able to convince otherwise.
I totally agree! People say watercolours are frustrating, and think a lot of it comes from trying to control them too much. But when you let go of control watercolours stop being frustrating and unforgiving. It is a wild and rebellious medium if you fight it, and it is lovely and gentle and playful one if you set it free ✨
Beautiful ❤️
Thank you so much

@@MaryContrary1 Thank you for subscribing! Watercolour is such fun - enjoy!
I think it’s interesting that your grass always flows to the right - any reason? I am enjoying your work so much. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching, and I am so glad to hear you are enjoying my videos! I think the main reason the grass is almost always leaning right in my paintings is the fact that I am right-handed... Also, if my main focal point is on the right hand side of the scene, the grass that is leaning right helps guide the viewer's eye towards it.
Wow! That was so fascinating to watch. Have never seen tree's painted in that form. I love it so much. xx
Thank you for watching 😊 Glad you liked it! It is certainly a very fun way to paint trees 😊✨
Thank you so much I will try it all ❤
Thank you for watching! I hope you have fun painting these!
Wonderful. Your demos inspire me to dig back into my stash of Daniel Smith paints and try new combinations, and I don’t feel so silly having bought every DS paint..lol…and many others. Now I have a few pages in my sketchbook just for ‘Mily Mixes’ so I don’t forget them. I love the way raw sienna light sits with perylene green creating a glowing effect. That never would have occurred to me. Thank you again for your lovely videos.
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving such a nice comment! All those tubes of paint you have there are filled with new colour discoveries and joy. That's a good collection to have for sure. I remember being taught to stick to primary single pigment colours only but I never liked that idea... As long as we know the basics of colour theory, sticking to just the primary colours is not that necessary in my opinion as I'd hate to miss out on all the fun of playing with the hundreds of different colours available to us these days. Enjoy your colour mixes!
Anasstasia your trees are so great
Thank you so much! Glad you like them
I've just subscribed, thanks very much for a breath of fresh air so to speak, gorgeous.
I've had a look at your fab website too. Take care, David.
Thank you for watching and for subscribing to my channel David! And for your kind words about my art too. Wishing you a creative weekend!
❤
Thank you!
I tried it, but one spray from my bottle pretty much covered 3/4 of my page.😂 Need to find a smaller bottle.
Or use a larger piece of paper! 😁
Hope you can find a smaller bottle. Mine is from a travel-sized toiletries bottles set.
👍🏼
Thanks!
Beautiful! How would you do that tree technique with a sky or mountains behind them?
Thank you 😊 It is very doable but the sky and the mountains would have to be much lighter in tone than the tree. Paint the sky and the mountains first and then dry that first layer very well. Once it’s completely dry you can paint the tree on top of that first wash using very gentle brushstrokes not to disturb the paint underneath.
I have never tried watercolor before but I am about to try gouache. Do you think you could use a similar technique? I love the look of this, i am obsessed with treeeeees!!!
Trees are magic!! The last time I painted in gouache was many, many years ago so I am not very familiar with the way they behave when mixed with a lot of water. I do encourage you to try though because we discover wonderful things while experimenting with our paints!
Good idea to put a bird for scaling
Thank you! I love adding birds to my landscapes
I live in Sherman, Texas😊
Hello from across the world!
I like the technique, but the trees look very surreal and top heavy with those very thin stem-like trunks. Pretty though, and I shall try this way of painting trees. Thank you.
The freedom of being an artist is not being bound by what things are expected to look like. I am not a realist painter 😁 Thank you for watching, and have fun painting!
What is a rigger brush?
It is a type of brush - rigger brushes are thin and have very long hair to help paint long thin lines (like rigging on sailboats, hence the name)
Your paintings with demonstration is very encouraging. Iam 86+ and learning painting but I fail to keep your notes in my memory. How would you help me please? Namaste
How wonderful that you are learning painting! So glad you find my videos encouraging. Thank you. Maybe rewatching the videos a few times, or painting along with them would help?
I notice you use a lot "twos" in your compositions - are you bucking orthodoxy? 😅
Never thought about it this way 😁 But I do believe that orthodoxy is very limiting to creativity and life in general so maybe you are right!
