  • Flying cars or air taxis and their business opportunities have recently become a hot topic. In this video, we are going to talk about the new air taxis (flying cars) which were unveiled (from 2019 to 2020). These best personal aircraft include SkyDrive SD-03, Bell Nexus 4EX, CityAirbus, Lift Hexa, Boeing PAV, Seraph, and Heaviside.
    SkyDrive SD-03
SkyDrive SD-03 is a Toyota-backed flying car that is billed as the smallest electric VTOL. Equipped with eight rotors that help it fly safely even if there’s a motor failure, this one-seat SkyDrive model can fly for only five to ten minutes at a low speed of several miles per hour. The next version is expected to have a speed of up to 40 mph (60 kph) and an extended flight duration of 30 minutes. The company is currently waiting for approval for flights beyond the test field by the end of 2020, and it expects a two-seat commercial vehicle by 2023.
    Lift Hexa
Hexa is an all-electric single-passenger air taxi aimed primarily at tourism and short-distance air travel. With a total empty weight of 432 pounds (196kg), HEXA can carry a 250 lb (113kg) passenger for up to 15 minutes of flight time. LIFT Aircraft is one of fifteen companies which are members of Agility Prime, the United States Air Force initiative to accelerate the commercial market for advanced air mobility vehicles.
    Bell Nexus 4EX
Bell Nexus 4EX is a 7,000-pound (3.2 tonnes) air taxi that can hit speeds of up to 150mph (241kmh) and can travel up to 60 miles (97km) while carrying 4 to 5 passengers, plus a pilot.
    Boeing PAV
Boeing PAV is a new-generation eVTOL passenger aircraft, or air-taxi designed and developed by Boeing for safe on-demand urban air transportation. Not much is provided about speed and payload weight, but the company says it designed for urban commutes with typical ranges up to 50 miles (80km).
    Seraph
Seraph is a 12-rotor British electric flying taxi that can carry passengers and goods weighing up to 550 pounds (250 kilograms) at speeds up to 50 mph (80kmh). The Seraph was built by the company to test new technologies and systems which will be used in the upcoming passenger model, the VA-X1.
    ELROY
ELROY is a flying car that is slightly larger than a compact car, but unexpectedly quiet and can fit into most garage spaces. With its high-performance electric motors, this electric-powered vertical take-off and landing vehicle can carry 2 passengers and travel at speeds up to 44mph (70km/h) with a flight time of 20 to 25 minutes.
    CityAirbus
CityAirbus is is a fully electric 4850 pounds (2.2-tonne) air taxi manufactured by AirBus. The CityAirbus is autonomously piloted eVTOL and has a cruising speed of roughly 75 mph (120kmh) up to 15 minutes of flight time. Powered by four 140 kW batteries, its 4 sets of counter-rotating ducted propellers can each provide 881 pounds (400 kg) of thrust for a payload of up to 551 pounds (250 kg). The CityAirbus is the successor of Vahana the company’s first air taxi model.
    Heaviside
Heaviside is a high-performance electric VTOL vehicle by Kitty Hawk. Kitty Hawk claims the craft’s electric propulsion system, tiny proportions, and aerodynamic shape make it “roughly 100 times quieter than a regular helicopter and it can cover 55 miles (88 kilometers) distance in 15 minutes while using less than half the energy of a car.”

the kitty hawk Heaviside design looks the best to me. I like how they use all motors and propellers for lift off and for forward flight, no wasted weight of motors and props for one or the other. I also like the over all aerodynamic design and very simple body structure. If I could invest in one of the projects and or buy one it would probably be that one.

They actually have a target date, engineers, tech and budget. They're experts in hydrogren/hybrids which is what's going to allow long range flight and quick refueling.

I liked the skyboat design best, you know, the one in the thumbnail.
It would need a couple of mini jet thrusters and possibley aerofoil contoured semi ringwings attached to to leading circumference of the rotors.
It would give it a speed boost and the rotors could be turned over to gyrocopter mode saving battery power for vertical landing and takeoff.
If anyone could tell me if the overall idea is feasible or not, that would be good.

Beautiful machines! I helped build, test, fly, and train in ultralights during the craze in 1980's. I have also flown radio controlled models and drones since the 60's. But with the recent restrictions on low flying aircraft, and overcrowded air space, I just can't imagine even a few of these aircraft legally flying anywhere near populated areas of our country. I remember the aerocar at the San Diego Aerospace Museum before it was torched many years ago and everything lost.
Best wishes for all of you and your efforts, though.

      "... I usually crash my drone ..."
And that's probably into something stationary flying by yourself. Imagine lots of those things contending for the same space at the same time. Cars crash into each other all the time just dealing with two dimensions. Adding a third has to increase that risk. I'm wondering who will be performing air traffic control with these things? On board computers? (Oops, that last software update failed to load last night ...)

I think the distance to weight ratio will be a huge factor in whether these vehicles will be used because I think distance will probably outweigh the amount of passengers you could utilize. Weight is obviously a huge factor over how long the battery will sustain itself. If it is a three manned double emergency/ traffic police vehicle where the two pilots are policing traffic areas when called into a accident or incident in the concentrating area. The pilots would also have to be paramedics where the third person is a potential patient that they would pick up in emergencies, way before a ambulance can get there in a congested traffic areas or remote locations where land vehicles can't reach, or reach quickly. The design of the vehicle would also be more beneficial if the back-up pilot not flying can monitor the patient while the patient is horizontal inside. Just a thought...

At 7:01 - the predecessor (Vahana) is more efficient than Airbus's newer design, because it offers wing lift. Powered lift drains batteries (or fuel tanks) quickly. That should be necessary for only 20 seconds or so at the beginning of the flight and again at the end, using the far more efficient wing lift for the cruise portion. Designs without wings are both slower and less efficient.

    • @stories-myhalfcenturyasapi3978
      @stories-myhalfcenturyasapi3978 3 года назад

The Kitty Hawk Heaviside looks viable with wings, 50 to 100 mile range and 1/2 the cruising fuel consumption of a Tesla Model S. Minimizing hover and slow flight time will be key. Electricity as the fuel source is viable. I've had 6 all-electric cars with ranges up to 300 miles, plus two Chevy Volts which I drove 98% on electric-only, with 40 - 50 mile electric range.
Taxis are generally considered short range conveyances. We aren't looking at cross-country transport options. Yet. Those will very likely be hybrids, much like the Volt.

Fifteen, twenty minutes is nice for a thrill ride, but not practical even for beer runs. We need breakthroughs in battery and solar tech to make beer runs safe and affordable for the average consumer.

Looking forward to when the CityAirBus and SkyDrive SD-03. They both seem to have the greatest potential to resolve transportation dilemmas. I am sure that given some time the power and distance will increase allowing the consumer to experience longer, safer, and more pleasurable travel. Perhaps smaller quieter motors and solar cells are the answer.

It's not really the motors producing the noise pollution it's the blades cutting through the air.

Just like when 3d printers rendered all other forms of manufacturing, building, and design processes obsolete. The Earths surface now resembles something of a coral reef, with colorful synthetic living structures of every design and funtion, and various forms of autonomous vehicles hovering around above it

There are bladeless cooling fans these days (Dyson, never seen one in the flesh) I have no idea how they work or how much blow they create, but could they be adapted ?

    • @agimasoschandir
      @agimasoschandir 3 года назад

"Bladeless" fans still have blades. Desktop ones such as the Dyson have them in the stem or tower part and force the air through holes in a ring-like top. In air vehicles, much the same is achieved by cowls that surround the blades, or like in hover craft designs that redirect the air downward. If using jet engines, then you have craft like the Harrier jet

@@agimasoschandir Right, as soon as I saw the price I clicked off the Dyson stuff lol, the reason for the suggestion was the safety aspect, thanks, Chris.

One item not mentioned is recharge time. Most reviews listed the flight time but nothing was said about recharge time or requirement. For these to truly become viable, recharge times most be rapid and require nothing fancy.

I think these are ultra cool.
The only complaint I have is the duration of time.
I know battery technology is lightyears ahead of where it used to be just 10 to 15 years ago. But it's just not fiscally feasible yet.
When your talking a max duration of only 15 to 30 minutes of actual safe flight time that's obviously good. But in my humble estimation not long enough. When someone comes through with a real battery breakthrough and can at the very least double that to a safe 60 minutes of flight time, that will be a day to celebrate.
    Thank you.

Here are the concepts and the same concepts as at the dawn of sky exploration.Remember the multi-engine aircraft of the early 20s of the last century.,,Now it all looks like this, Yes, electric motors have become more powerful, but the number of them is not who does not reduce(unreliable?or fear). The best option is 4 motors in the corners)) along the edges, and now if you like to draw, draw the shape, the material of manufacture, just a huge amount (sorry for the mistakes, English is not native, I write through a translator).
