I wasn't. :) But then I've been there 9 times since 2002. However, on my first visit to Chiayi, Taiwan, I was certainly surprised that the Alishan Forest Railway actually still ran. I'd seen one of their Shays at the Puffing Billy Railway in Australia and had (very wrongly) assumed that the old logging line had long been closed. A few days later I spent a day riding the line from Chiayi (30m/98ft above sea level) to Alishan (2216m/7279ft) in 71km/44miles. Diesel-hauled of course. Plenty of static Shays were seen, but there's an increasing number of them restored to working order since then. With one that I first saw displayed in a park now running on the line. They're doing some amazing work there.
3:29 what in gods green hell is THAT. I’m legitimately impressed that they managed to build a loco out of an old steam crane, let alone in secret, let alone even being rebuilt into an 0-6-0. That must have been done like the ship of theseus.
Being a person who visits Taiwan almost every summer, I find taiwan is wonderful. I got the n scale taipei metro set from taiwan. And have a little one of those toy trains. Also, Alishan is pronounced Ah-lee-sh-ahn. Glad you enjoyed your trip!
i had bought a special limited edition set of 16 locomotives on the high speed rail in Taiwan. They were stacked, in a clear bag with handle and i loved it. I don't unfortunately see it on their website.
When researching the touch rail GEVO, i found out that its supposed to be an SD70M? I can tell that they looked at references for SD70Ms and also GEVOS which led to the model being a combination of the two.
Yes they do indeed have tracks, but they are definitely hard to get imo compared to plarail, as I only see them in the TRA gift shop in Taipei main station :D
the fact that the boxcars have 2 faces though 😮 does one take over based on direction? Do they both speak? Would that be the same for, say, a british diesel with 2 cabs? So many questions.
Ve their own tracks that if I remember correctly, also have switches and points, otherwise they dotn really run on any other type of tracks, the closest are plarail, but those are still a bit too big for them to run on.
I bough a pack when I was around 5 and out the 12 only 4 survived a Budd RDC with a yellow front, Doctor yellow, a white emu? and a frame of a loco. I wish I still have them all but I wish to encounter them again in the airport again
Great review! I never knew that Taiwan had a handful of shays running to this day.
I too was surprised

I definitely agree on the adorable factor. Those things are delightful!
I too adore them

Hm not wrong
smyset jumpscare
How can I blame them for loving Shays? They're super charming little engines and just catch the eye haha
Awwww. Those touch-rail toy trains look so cute. Now I want one.
I was lucky enough to find one for a TGV online for a reasonable price. Definitely a great decoration piece for my desk!

It's like China with milk products and owning a car us legal.😂
An intense love for Shays eh? I guess West Virginians like me and the Taiwanese have something in common X3
YESSIR VISIT TAIWAN
See these toys brings me bad memories to one certain person that was obsessive with these that used to be my friend
👍
same they remind me of someone like that too
were they just obsessed or did they go farther than that

That Black Engine looks so cute and adorable! 😆🤩😆
As a UP fan myself, I am very impressed how Taiwan managed to make that UP Dash 9 with detail.
I really want that union pacific set, it's so out of the blue and I love it.
I seem to remember they had a track system for these little guys.
ADORABLE
Yah their track system is like Tomy Plarail but cuter. 😆
Yes they do indeed have tracks, but they are definitely hard to get imo compared to plarail, as I only see them in the TRA gift shop in Taipei main station :D
lovely review! i actually do have one of these when i went on a train in Taiwan back in 2019 and they are quite fun to have!
4:43 I had these but lost some ,also does anyone know the names of these?
I do, they’re called WowToyz
Popack friction motor trains
4:48 you just brought back so much childhood PTSD from this, this ALWAYS happened to me
I’m so happy I’m not the only one suffering from PTSD from that
they look like those mini, coffee cakes you can buy at stores, I want to eat them.
I NEED THE UNION PACIFIC ONE
4:43 can you review on those pull back trains
1:22 why does it look like thomas?
So I guess this means locomotives have eyes instead of windshields now
the fact that the boxcars have 2 faces though 😮 does one take over based on direction? Do they both speak? Would that be the same for, say, a british diesel with 2 cabs? So many questions.
The best English translation for 精品 would be something like knick-knacks.
Small little ornaments.
Oh cool. Appreciate that!
These are so cute. I found some on eBay. I’m saving up.
I want the UP set!
These seem to be compatible with the Ho ratio, just like B train of Bandai.
4:45 this got me way harder than it should’ve 😂
Do they run on wooden railway or trackmaster tracks?
No Regular Model Railway Track! :P
Or what about take n play track?
Ve their own tracks that if I remember correctly, also have switches and points, otherwise they dotn really run on any other type of tracks, the closest are plarail, but those are still a bit too big for them to run on.
@@PotatoLaptopUser101 thanks mate 👍
I live in Taiwan. I had lots of it since I was a kid. I love these toys.😍😍😍
Same
I bough a pack when I was around 5 and out the 12 only 4 survived a Budd RDC with a yellow front, Doctor yellow, a white emu? and a frame of a loco. I wish I still have them all but I wish to encounter them again in the airport again
I dont know why but the steam and red deisel remind me of a movie called yaemon
I wish they made more locomotives from other countries in this chibi style. AEM-7 anybody?
Imagine a big boy, challenger, or Garrett in this line

Taiwan. Export these to US markets. They’d sell like crazy among people who like unique toys such as this (myself included)
The GE though
