I'm 44 years old female very fair skinned from the middle east with multiple injuries over the years and work in the medical field. I was just diagnosed with PMR (based on signs, symptoms, and bloodwork... along with seeing Neurologist, Pain Specialist, Orthopedic, Cardiologist, PT, Psychiatry, and PCP !!) It took 5 years to figure out what was going on with my pain and stiffness. Not until I saw the Rheumatologist that I finally got the treatment (which I decided to do that myself since one doctor decided that it was Fibromyalgia because he couldn't decide what was wrong with me !) Too late, I had to go on disability because of my pain..and after 20 years in the medical field, I'm done with healthcare system altogether!
hello im from jordan middle east, I have chronic problem since 5 years stiffness back neck hip and joints pain its long story no one can figure out what wrong.. can contact you plz
@ralanden Yup... it's their way of saying "nothing we can do !" But my Rheumatologist said "Bull S@#$%" and performed multiple tests and found out what was going on. I have been finally on methotrexate for about 6 months now, and finally seeing some improvements with my blood work. I'm still not out of the woods yet, but working on it daily: walking, water Aerobics, healthier diet, rest as needed, and light and some weight lifting as I can tolerate daily.
PMR is kicking my behind rite now. Doc is starting with this diagnosis in order to rule out other causes. Yesterday , I received Pred shots in both shoulders and started on a 3 week oral pred Rx.
My PMR was cured when I stopped taking steroids and concentrated kn curing a leaky gut by changing my diet and avoiding things like vegetable oils, sugar and ultra-processed foods. I also began using olive oil and avoiding food containing lectins. I'm fine now but had 2 years of hell.
I'm a 77 year old man who has high praise to my doctor who figured this out immediately and put me on steroids. I am currently on a low dose of prednisone, which has made me relatively pain-free. Never even heard of PMR before.
I know you are not supposed to consult Dr. Google lest you have every disease you read about.....BUT........I think I have this PMR and will be consulting my GP about it. I have all the symptoms, bilateral shoulder pain, trunk pain, fatigue, waking at night from pain, morning stiffness for a good hour, more when my drive to work is longer and I’m stuck sitting in one place, age 67, female, have been told I may have fibromyalgia, etc. My father had the same symptoms as do a sister, age 64, and a brother, age 70. I recall great grandma having pain in her shoulders so that she couldn’t pick up or carry laundry baskets or the baby. (She was afraid she’d drop him.) I will also get checked for giant cell arteritis as I have a heart murmur. There are also other autoimmune diseases in my extended family, RA, MS, and lupus.
My mum has been referred to a rheumatologist for sudden unknown pain to rule out PMR . Pain first started in thighs the moved to shoulders R>L unable to lower lift upper extremities above head. R shoulder is slightly swollen. Pain also in groin area but again worse in R shoulder area. Pain sometimes awakens her at night and almost unbearable when attempting to get out of bed to use bathroom. Steroids were recommended but she has had bad side effects. She is changing her diet to anti inflammatory foods and avoiding food high in oxalates. Awaiting lab results to see if inflammatory markers are elevated
I now have two autoimmune disease, PMR and Ulcerative colitis. Now for the past 8 months I have headaches that don't go away with other facial pain. I'm just waiting for my next DR visit to tell him more on the headaches and dizziness that is worse now.
This video matches my condition to the T but i cant get a positive diagnosis because i don't have any inflammatory markers in my blood work. I read that some people don't show markers but none of the doctors I have seen believe that.
I had a bout of PMR and my bloods were through the roof. It settled after taking steroids for a while. It's now come back, but no blood indicators this time. It seems to vary.
My mom had it and was put on prednisone and her weight doubled. She had moon face. She went into depression. That’s the last treatment you want to try. Diet change should be the first thing to try. You’re probably eating something that is causing it. Stop eating packaged foods for one month. It’s hard to do but will probably cure it. Find out if you have any nutritional deficiencies that need supplements. Have a food sensitivity test done and cut those foods out for a month and slowly reintroduce.
Im 41 and test to be firmally diagnosed but the last thing i want to take is steroids, especially at my age.. Are there less drastic alternatives or more holistoc approached to treatment available?
Auto-inflammatory diseases are almost always affected by diet. Consider an allergen panel test and reducing toxins and inflammation causing foods and beverages, such as soda, alcohol, processed foods, and things high in sugar
Hi how are you doing now, first day on steriods today trying for a week but really dont want to be on steriods as dont want weight gain as just lost weight
Hi. I have been on steroids for over a year. I put on weight and did not want to become reliant on them so weaned myself off them twice. However on both occasions the pain came back so had to go back on them. You have to be very careful and should realy only come off them on advice from a doctor. I went down one milligram a week to let my body adjust.
Hello , do you have a clinic. I think my cousin is going through this. A male, in his 30s. But he's not getting the attention he needs in his location which is Italy.
I'm 63, white male, of good health and 2 years ago, a week after I had the second AZ cov19 vaccine, I went down with this. 2 years on and I am still on predisolone ! Arrgghhh I know it is not a life ending disease, I hate this condition!
I got PMR after my Covid vaccine in 2021. The symptoms were swelling of my feet, hands and neck. I went to my doctor and got steroids which relieved the swelling and burning sensation. But the severe depression that followed was the worst I ever experienced.

This wholeheartedly depends on speed and success of treatment. @Clinical Physio Thank you. Yes I have PMR and am on long term treatment programme with steroids. I'm probably looking at some time as my mother suffered for 2 years...
@wallyperson1 I would quite happily stay on steroids except they affect my diabetes and I now have very high blood pressure. Suddenly. I've have nevered suffered from high blood pressure. I'm trying to wean myself to a lesser dose (with the doctors) to see if it helps. My mother also had it for about 3 years.
@@ClinicalPhysio I agree, but you are an open minded and clever Physio who read studies. So I think there is a lot to learn in studies about ketogenesis and inflammation. Don't you think so? Seeing health without considering nutrition and sleep quality is not optimal.

I think women most likely have had this more likely for at least 10 years prior to diagnosis. They are ignored

Is there a lab test to confirm PMR?
Absolutely, various blood tests can be considered as a collection e.g. ESR, CRP, Rheumatoid factor

i got PMR while i had covid .... the pain was awful! I also became agitated and depressed.
What is the blood test to diagnose PMR?
ESR, CRP, Rheumatoid factor may all be used to consider it
Im betting diet and environmental toxicity plays a heavy role in the development of PMR
Perhaps it may do 🙏🏼
Then why does it come on suddenly at age 70?
