In this video, Penn Rail Videos is going to take you on an exciting 25 minute adventure at the Tweetsie Railroad theme park in Blowing Rock, NC.
We'll first start out by watching both locomotives (#12 and #190) prepare for their day's work. We'll then follow the #12 around the park first, watching it pass by in several locations, and even have some views from inside the cab!
"Tweetsie" #12 was built in 1917 by Baldwin for the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad. She is a 4-6-0 "Ten-Wheeler" type locomotive and is the last narrow-gauge engine from the ET&WNC to survive.
Next up we'll take a look at the ex-White Pass & Yukon Railroad 2-8-2 #190. She was built in 1943 for the US Army Transportation Corps. At this time, the US Army owned the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. In 1960, the #190 was brought to the hills of North Carolina where she has been ever since. To tourists of Tweetsie Railroad, she is known as the "Yukon Queen".
Also of note is that the coach behind #12 came from the East Broad Top RR in Rockhill Furnace, PA. Also the open cars being pulled by the #190 also came from the EBT as flat cars, and were made into open air cars by Tweetsie.
After we take a look at both engines in operation, we'll be treated to a double-header as the two locomotives team up to pull the regular tourist train. After this, we'll conclude with the grand finale show of steam as both locomotives perform fantastic run-bys for everyone's enjoyment.
We would like to extend a huge "Thank You" to the people who operate the Tweetsie Railroad and maintain these fine machines so that the public can see them in operation in the 21st century. It's becoming harder to find a place with two operating steam locomotives in one place, and we highly recommend the Tweetsie Railroad's railfan weekend to any train buff!
I used to watch this video all the time when I was little, Good Times! 😊
I used to go there when I was 4 when I visited my cousin in NC I wanna go again
such memories. I worked there in 1975-77 and the various skills I learned from Frank, Spencer and the rest of the leadership has followed me for a long time.
My family and I came here when I was about 4 years old
Awesome! Tweetsie's a neat place.
What a cute little engine!
I love tweetsie 190 & 12 I like the ride.
I miss engine 12 whistle when it sounded like this it sounded way better than how it sounds now
You really should! My family has visited Tweetsie since the 50's. It's a great place to bring the family, and if you love trains, well... the video speaks for itself. ;)
You should. It is amazing!
I was there at that time and that was an awesome Railfest!

No. 12 is a classic
Wow amazing video! 12 sound amazing in this video! Especially which what sounded like a Pennsy 3 chime on her. Thanks for sharing!
My guy, that’s a Baldwin 3 chime. Not a Pennsy 3 chime 💀💀💀
Great video, I'm in the top left hand corner of the shot starting at 6:32 I have the camera and tripod with the baseball cap. Unfortunately Tweetsie is not letting us walk the tracks anymore at Railfan Weekend. It Sucks. Oh well still love Tweetsie.
Walking on tracks in dangerous and lnleagl
@@meryreyes6209 It was not illegal then, we were given special permission by the park for railfan weekend.
Oh ok but still it's dangerous

Oh, how magical it was to go for a ride on one of these. Being a fan of classic steam locomotives, this was about as great a birthday present as is possible to receive.
Great video and fantastic quality!
Ever been?
East Coast Rail Chasers Sure have, for my 12th birthday I think. It was probably the last ride of the day, but it was still a fantastic show.
TraustiGeir the thing is of tweetsie is once you go there once theres no stopping me and my fam go there every summer

Those are common actually

Excellent job!
@Bassfanatic94
That's her original ET&WNC whistle you are hearing.
Beautiful shots. Thank you.
Bisakah saya pergi kesitu....🙏
@Bassfanatic94 Thanks! 12's whistle however sounds nothing like a PRR 3, as the PRR 3 chimes are more mellow-toned. The whistle on 190 sounds more Pennsy-like then 12's. That high-pitched whistle is her ET&WNC whistle, which probably came from Baldwin. So TECHNICALLY it's a Baldwin 3 chime.
Yeah I love this vid

What I remember most about the train ride was my eyes filling up with coal ash and missing the show, lol
P.B. Theriver same XD
@GenesisSanctuary They are very cool! Only visit on the Railfan weekend though, as throughout the other times of the year you will NOT be able to get shots around the park.
I Like tweetsie railroad
@Sirterp Thanks!! I am glad you liked it.
You should return for this years railfan weekend.
Did you know when I’m a grown up man i will study about train and go to lundin btw I’m using my dad’s ipad that’s why you
you see this old picture
I live near tweetsie and we would go every year, I seemed to remember 12 as a backup engine, but that could be wrong. I liked watching the cowboy show as well as riding the trains. I remember one time by brother got a cinder in his eye, that was fun.
Engine 12 is the main engine 190 is the backup engine if you look at the posters they have you will see the number 12 on them
Me to I live next to tweetsie I like watching out for the train sounds and I here tweetsie witshle
I like the whistle patters of 190 on 15:42 and 16:07
They need to get that Crosby sounding like that again.
Sarah is 12 and Kathleen is 190

Can some please explain to me the real purpose of that bloody annoying bell???? What are the law requirements as to where and when it is rung? On videos that I have seen there seems to be no logic for its ringing ie out on the main line in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason!
@tweetsie12190fan 630 And 722 aren't ET&WNC, They were Southern, Sold to ET&WNC and then went back to southern... And you Miss-spelled Gauge, and Standard...
Anybody know what whistle was on #190? It sounds very deep compared to her crosby nowadays.
Same whistle now just sounds awful
Is her Crosby whistle from the 60s and 80s
Yes. 190 was fitted with a 6 inch Crosby 3 Chime from the Southern Railway in the 1960s. While she has worn several different whistles over the years, her Southern Crosby has been in regular service since she was brought to Tweetsie.
