I remember she did not want to sing this song by Bruce Springsteen. Her record company made her sing it. It turned out to be one of her biggest hits. Love me some Natalie Cole.

Dennis Lambert and Paul Jackson, Jr. did a slamming version of this song that Natalie recorded the original vocals to. We were sitting in a backstage dressing room area before going on stage, and they brought in the remix, done by a "hot young DJ" to play for Natalie just before it's official release. All our jaws kinda hit the floor (in not a good way) when they played the synth bass loopy version. They had stripped out everything except her vocal and completely rebuilt it. All of Paul Jackson's killer guitar parts were pulled. I normally played bass guitar with Natalie, but for this TV shoot, they put a keyboard in front of me to play like the remix. Jeff Worrell is playing the original guitar intro as the ending of this TV arrangement, as a tribute of sorts to the original track. It was a hit, so can't argue with the record company.

Seems that happens a lot. Meaning when an artist doesn't care for a particular number, the reverse happens & the dern song ends up being a hit!

@@toursupport Don't get me wrong, but though I love the album original version that the end chords of this TV presentation try to capture, I do prefer the Turbo Remix, because it's able to match better with the Gospel flavored melody and lyrics. And the fact is that it's that version that people recall and made it a smash hit everywhere.

She had such a powerful voice range
She does not even struggle in any live performance of this song
