Not sure about it... why do you say so? he did perfectly by shifting all the weight to the left though. It seems to me that it was due to groud effect, something to take into consideration under strong wind.
@@DayB89 I fly hang gliders since my 16 years old, I'm 45. I've seen thousands and thousands of take-offs. For this particular case: Different wind gradients trough the runaway . Thermal wind. Watch 1st windsock near pilot with good air flow, 2nd Windsock at 00:04 with "no wind" (right side) and the final 3rd one with less intensity. Misjudgement for the take-off moment ? perhaps, but with that ramp, changing hands in those wind conditions will produce lack of control authority, and as you can see pilot arms are stretched. The inclination of ramp looks good. Pure luck. In this conditions good angle, good run and don't rush the hand change to the speed bar. Cheers. Fly safe.
@@NoTengoIlusiones all looked good to me. Except as he was transitioning from the down-tubes, it looks like he pushed out a bit on the speed bar, causing the right wing to dip. Plus the nose on the HG was a tad too high. I've been flying for over 44 yrs.
In my own opinion, the wing dropped due to various factors such as wing gradient and turbulence and needed more speed before switching my hands. It was turbulent and I had some trees in front and to my right down the hill. I feel being on the base bar actually helped by having better control authority. Not sure if I would have been able to put that much quick turn from the down tubes. Sure. I should have have picked a better cycle. Lots of good pointers from other pilots in this thread. I have been flying for 34 years. I have crashed at foot launches before. This one, although in the video doesn’t look much like a big deal, was my biggest scare In my flying career. Especially that pass the launch area there is a 300’ rocky vertical cliff. No place for a soft crash. Keep on flying!
I am a low-time powered aircraft pilot and long-time sailor. What are we seeing here? Was this within acceptable tolerances? He was following the fall-line on take off and appears to have been a little slow to correct for the right cross wind. Is that a lack of anticipation/briefing? That wind looks pretty consistent.
Sloppy unfocused launch. Right wing went weak due too turbulent airflow on launch. Need more aggressive execution. Half-ass effort like it was a smooth day. Like a moderate crosswind airstrip landing with a clueless focus.
When you're flying big air, high altitude sites you trade altitude for speed as much as you can getting away from the launch/hill. You want ample airspeed to deal with unstable air and any trash coming at you. A little more trash here and we're talking a serous accident.
Absolutely agree. Also looks like mid afternoon. What I don't understand is the line of launch. He looks into the wind but the slope is dropping off to his left. There's going to be turbulence along that slope especially in the compression. I'm surprised that the flags weren't showing it.
Angulo de ataque muy alto ,y cambio de manos muy pronto ,podrias aber yevado el angulo mas bajo y corrido un poco mas con las manos en la sped bar desde el principio ,seria mas elegante ,buena salvada ,suerte y buenos vuelos
Not quite, more like wind gradient and gust blowing the right wing tip down. But the right wing tip may have partially stalled then he quickly pulled in for speed and left to save it.
You definitely got lucky dude. I always keep your hands-on the uprights. Man and then make transition one hand at a time
Grammarly: I always keep my hand.
Looks like you should keep your hands on the uprights longer. .... cheers fly safe.

@@NoTengoIlusiones nicely explained! Thanks!

In such wind you can even walk up with your glider already flying with the hands on the bar, then it’s a piece of cake to clear the launch safely.
Wowzer what a save
Notice the little push as he changes grip.
A tricky situation. What I can't see is if the launch could have been moved to his left. I'm just glad that he had a little airspeed.

It's fine. Ground effect kicked in.
Reminds me of McClellan peak in Reno
Good save
I once crashed at takeoff because I let my kite’s left wing protrude too much and the uplift wind turned the kite to the right
I would love to do it... Ofcourse with parachute on my back
Damn TAVO! where is this?
Does it come in black?
He pushed out and nearly stalled.
Why did you transition so quickly to base if anything keep one on downtube and other base bar to pull in for speed
Amazing
I think my old Wills Wing HP would have crashed !

I love glider
Monroe?
better him than me
Whee at?
Do people actually survive these things
People LIVE with hang gliding. It is a very safe form of flying, although this takeoff was ugly because of a gust
저게 무게가 어느정도 ㅡ?되는지 ?
32 kilos
Aren't them things expensive watch it boy you're going to reck your wing.
Body is the most expensive.
Is this Oregon
What kind of glider is that?
Wills Wing U2
Was that a stall? Powered flight guy ask’n.

Saudações desde o Brasil!
Far from being remotely close to a fail
Опасненько
😨
Maybe you have poor shoulders preventing you from being closer to the base bar, but you seem a lot higher than what is ideal for best control.
Everyone please read the Bible
!
I hate this
I know I shouldn't do it but I go to the base tube too early, it just seems more natural but there are definitely some risk there, fly safe
Get over it. He was just correcting for a little wind. No failure here
Krusevo. Makedonia
