Over the years I've often come across the idea that those who keep working on creative things are the ones who are most likely to be visited by their muse (I'm sure there's a more poetic way to say it, but I should be in bed already). As someone who works in long-form fiction and who has to create around life (I'm a working mum, so all the emotional/mental labour of running a household, plus regular work have to come before my writing) I often have to create when the opportunity presents itself. Usually a burst of inspiration comes after that. The idea is that after many edits, the two states will blend seamlessly. One tries 😄 My opinion is that it always comes down to balance. Still, better to make yourself create something than sit scrolling endlessly. Better to create *anything* than sleep through a day. That being said, sometimes you have to sleep. Sometimes you have to let your mind shut down. It's all balance. But the muse is unlikely to visit while you're mindlessly scrolling an algorithmic feed of content, unless you've trained the algorithm to feed you inspiration …
