      gold and other metallic colours work wonderfully too! metallics tend to look too shiny on fair skin tones, but darker skins make them pop without looking too bright. i love it.

    • @enderfawx3063
      @enderfawx3063 6 лет назад +8

      Here's how; You get a more gray-ish lighting. Its not down to the camera at all like this video says. The problem they're distinguishing is that light reflects off dark colors differently from light colors so using a different color light lets you take pictures of dark colors better. Hope that helps.

    • @MyChristi123
      @MyChristi123 5 лет назад +5

      Star Shine remember that editing is also an important part of photography!! So if the lighting is off, you can always adjust the contrast, brightness, and tonal values afterwards

    I have always known i was Black but when i left Africa and moved to Europe, i gained a new sensibility of what it means to be Black. I always say "i never knew how BLACK i was until i travelled west" ... that realisation can be a doubled-edged sword. It can make or break you.
    So thank you for giving many of us our confidence back. Sending greetings from Germany.

    • @holidaya9380
      @holidaya9380 6 лет назад +1

      Glaze Battle-Born exactly so you don't have to deal with that. But some people like me when people try to say things about me they say go back to Africa that's where you belong. Put that in perspective what if you felt so uncomfortable in your skin like if people were going to judge you based on your race. These are literally some of the problems in the world these days

    i'm not black but somehow i can relate to this cause i have like really dark tan skin and i was always made fun of it, like people would turn off the lights then would try to "find" me , or i would look like a shadow next to people in pictures, or they would say they can only see me when i smile and all that. So i was very insecure then stated using skin bleaching products, whitening soaps, and whatever else i can find that helps my color lighten. Years later i started to regret it cause now, my skin is like grayish brown. I wish i never tried to change, i wish i just loved and appreciated my skin back then.

      DaarDidDat The use of the term "black" to describe a person is a misrepresentation. All people that are considered black are actually different shades of brown. All so called "white people" are more or less pink. The use of black and white is just used to perpetuate racism and greed. Notice how often the media has brainwashed people so that the lie becomes our reality. If you WAKE UP you will see the shocking truth of this fear mongering society. Awaken your conscious mind, and simultaneously quiet your subconscious mind and the truth will come to light.

    I️ remember learning about the Kodak film, and how it’s affected photography- but as a photographer my favorite people to shoot are people with drastically different skin tones; really pale, to really dark. Light (colored light especially) looks amazing on dark skin tones, and absorbes into the skin so beautifully, and it makes me mad when my photographer friends don’t take complexion into consideration.

      The issue is that different people are offended by different things. Maybe calling a person Black isn't offensive to you, but other people ARE offended when they are described by their skin color. I just try to be respectful, but it's hard to know how to do that when there is no basic standard for respecting someone's skin color.
      It's always nice to see someone that embraces and loves their skin tone. That's the way it should be in my opinion.

    "We always been the in thing" I know right why do you think people tan to become darker. This video is AMAZING

    • @A-Dubs398
      @A-Dubs398 6 лет назад +1

      Standards are different around the world. Currently, Kim Kardashian, etc. is the American standard. So people tan to appear more olive or Brown, not Black.
      But the standards everywhere else is mainly White/Eurocentric. And nothing wrong with that, everyone has different opinions. Even your profile picture, Japan loves light bright skin and Eurocentric features. That's why the main chick from Sailor Moon looks hella White with her massive blue eyes, blonde hair, White rosy skin, etc.
      This doesn't make them "brainwashed" for liking White features. Whites did not force their beauty standards on them. Everyone just has different opinions.

    I didnt know dark skin was looked at as anything other than beautiful before I grew up and heard people from america talk about it. It makes me so sad, but im glad people realize how beautiful it is now. Growing up in Norway, I always envy the darkskinned africans here, because they're skin was glowing and they were so beautiful in colorful clothing. But as an adult I realize that growing up white made alot so much easier for me, and im glad I see that now.. this is a problem us white people should fix as well, because it was us (not personally, but through history) that made this a problem in the first place. Now i am that "annoying" person who complain in makeup stores and hairsalons about lack of colorrange in foundation and knowledge in african hairtexture, lol. This is not a "black problem", its everyones problem, and therefore everyone should speak up.

      Valaya Hart white privilege isn't real. No one has more or less of a opportunity in life, based on there skin tone. If someone lightens up there skin tone, that's racist. If they don't show up on camera, that's not something they can control. I'm Asian, do I have more privilege than a black person? No. We're all equal.

      This is not a white privilege thing. Within the black community, there are various skin shades and they are focusing on blacks that have "dark skin". Brown skin blacks and light skin blacks do not have this problem that the women in this video have. You're definitly reaching haha. Being rich and educated is a privilege.. being white isn't.. but its nice you like to think that lol. The media loves to find insecure minorities to fit their agenda of telling whites their privillaged just for being born white. I guess that is the modern day era of self love for whites. Im not knocking that movement because I love confident people but not every minority buys into that. I seen way to many whites struggle in poverty or living pay check to pay check to believe the white privilege hype. I also see that there is a lack of representation of gingers in the media, especially for men, as well as people with freckles and extremly pale skin within the white community but no one wants to talk about that.. sorry but until that changes I refuse to believe in this privilege thing. Every white person i see in the media/instagram is tanning, dying their hair jet black, getting lip injections or drawing thier lips big with lip liner/ lipstick, to appear more ethnic/exotic.

      You can't calibrate cameras to make the photos better. It all comes down to lighting. Normal light reflects off of dark colors differently from the way it reflects off of light colors. So you'd have to change the color of the light to get better photos. There's not much we could do to fix it and make cameras accessible for both dark skin and light skin without the change in lighting, unfortunately.

    Annoyed that the one thing that most took away from this is that they think buzzfeed is saying cameras are racist......if you actually watch to seek understanding they are talking about the technology in which the cameras were designed with. It has a lot to do with lighting and exposure. If the technology at the time was only made based upon the complexions of fair skin then developed pictures do not complement those with darker skin. The point of the video was not to even focus on racism but to show how technology has changed for the better over time and how EVERYONE can now see themselves on film as they truly do to the naked eye but hey, you find what you look for no matter what is put in front of you. Sometimes we have to be more understanding and realize that that our own personal reality is not and will never be everyone else’s reality. Long story short....thank you buzzfeed this video! It was awesome 👏

I once tried to take a photo of my one friend who has a skin tone similar to Lupita, and I got so frustrated because the sunglight was beautifully framing her, she looked like a million bucks and I took multiple photos and none turned out right, even after photoshoping.
