Great explanation! Love your style of getting right to the point so that viewers get a clear understanding of the subject. Having no annoying music in the background is awesome and your style of adding just a small amount of levity is endearing. Please keep making your videos...so educational and much better than others I've watched on RUclips.
WOW. You learn something new every day. I've had this camera for years and never noticed the button was there until this morning. This would've been so helpful on so many occasions! Glad I know its purpose now - Thank you!
This was a fantastic educational video. It answered my question in record time and gave me more useful information than I expected. Sometimes I get frustrated with how many videos I have to click on and wade through and come up empty. It can be such a waste of time. Your video was to the point, succinct, with an enjoyable delivery! Thank you!
Thank you for showing this it's solved two problems I've been having. You talk clearly and slowly enough for us to follow. The best educational video I've seen. Thanks. PS don't add music what ever you do - it drives us all insane out here!
I’ve been practicing photography for about 1 year now and your video made so much clear to me!! I’ve always wondered why f11 had so small depth of field on my live view. But after pressing the preview button it all made sense and I realised the pictures sharpness didn’t look anything like my live view…
Thanks heaps Cheng… I used this button realising that it was giving me the presentation of what will I would get but your explanations illuminated what was really happening. Will keep following.
Now I know.. Hahaha. Thanks. I always see this button and wanted to research but end up forgeting to research what the button does..luckily this video showed up. Haha
So that's what it's for! Seriously, I did know about DoF Preview Button but had never used it. But I most certainly will from now on, always. Thank you for this very, very useful knowledge and most helpful tutorial.
Great, great, video. I particularly like the lack of obnoxious movie, the lack of someone who thinks they're funny making stupid jokes - (there's nothing unfunnier that someone who thinks they're funny) - no long intros or outros or self promotion and so...subscribe! Great stuff
This was a great video! I couldn’t figure out how to use this feature until now. Keep’em coming! Looking forward to what else I’m gonna find on your channel.
2:13 You are one of the first in a video to mention that, that was good to hear. (I tried to find video's to explain to people why manual focus is not a thing most DSLR's where designed for and this is why).
whopeter I just noticed it was there recently and I've been using my camera for 3+ years 😂 I feel like I gained a feature or won the lotto or something even though it was always there 😂😂
XY thanks for the explanations, which are good in their content, but spoken at 120 mph, so that I had to see it several times to get all the info therein. Finally it's all round useful video.
Well....that was an absolutely helpfull vid...not only the button but also about the aperture... about allways open untill exposure to give a clear view....ahummm....didnt know that...good info...going to subscribe
Good choice of speakers i know its an old video but i have those as well , there are 8inch and 5inch variants i think that is 8inch one . One advice for you, that is a big speaker , and a heavy one , good one , that means it shakes a lot , its probably shaking your complete setup there , if you dont want to muffle your sound with your table vibration sound, put them on foam , some sponge , and they have corner compensations switches on them, one of them is in the corner you might want to check that switch , if you care about the sound like i do , you really need to move them away from the wall and corner , symmetrical to the room , at 1/3ed of the room height , distance from your head and any speaker should be the same , tilted slightly towards you . Go behind , and use a High Frequency cut off at -2db, all of this combined with a bit of acoustical treatment of the room , and you get magnificent detailed audio because they do have high definition audio , similar to High Pixel count Sensors in Cameras , cant just slap any lens on it , some will be sharper , same here , you need to set them up properly . IF you care about the sound , you can get more detail by using these rules , i aslo tend to cut corners , but im always away from corners and never put a speaker on a wooden box , your table is a speaker without a driver , put a big heavy bass on it , your table starts to sing , and its not whispering , you just are not trained to hear that , but when you place them on proper mounts you will notice that sound changed . Great work thanks
Another use is the lock aperture hack for reversing lens. While pressing the mysterious button, you detach the lens so you can reverse it and use it as a macro lens with a pre fixed aperture. This tecnique is useful only if the lens does not have the aperture ring. Thanks for video!!
Thanks. Learned something new with this video, that it is possible to preview DoF via live view. I always did that in VF with no effect other than darkening the view.
Nearly 400k views for something easily understood by reading the camera's manual. That said, I'd much rather watch your videos than read a manual. Good accurate description.
wow, thanks! I just bought a new Canon hadn't a clue what the button was supposed to do. Now that I bought a 50 mm and 85 mm lens for portraits that will come in really handy.
Never been able to get that button to work , Always thought it was a waste of time . But know realize I must have had the aperture wide open . Thanks for your tips .....
Informative video, thank you. I have a Nikon D7200 and doesn't work in live view on my camera, through the viewfinder I can hear it actuating but not when it's in live view. I suppose it works both ways on a Canon.
THIS is the way all education videos should be: to the point, light-hearted, no irritating music, well-lit. Good job, ZY!
No funny ads, or “please subscribe” nonsense! Very well done
Martin Hugh, 100% I agree with you.
i agree as well! often some really fast paced and horrible voices as well makes me not wanting to be watching a video
Well stated Martin, I totally agree!
Yes
Mystery solved! Thanks man! I had been trying to use it at maximum aperture this whole time and wondering why nothing ever happened. Haha!
The mystery of the unlabeled button! haha
Great explanation! Love your style of getting right to the point so that viewers get a clear understanding of the subject. Very clear and useful explanation. The "Best used in Live View" hint was particularly helpful. Thank you.
Hey Buddy, keep making such videos. Really helpful. Clear, precise, to the point and Simple.
Right on!
Thank you for showing this it's solved two problems I've been having. You talk clearly and slowly enough for us to follow. The best educational video I've seen. Thanks. PS don't add music what ever you do - it drives us all insane out here!

Well done. Been shooting for a number of years and found this to be the most concise and easiest explanation of DOF button yet.
Thank you for this! The most understandable review of the DOF button I have seen. Love your videos!
Thanks heaps Cheng… I used this button realising that it was giving me the presentation of what will I would get but your explanations illuminated what was really happening. Will keep following.
This was the MOST helpful vid on this...amazing. No rambling, great presence. Longtime fan man
This video is so very well done. Professional presentation that does not traffic in irrelevancies or condescension.
Thanks John!
Just a perfect video! Explained what it was and why it existed, all in 3 minutes! Amazing!
Now I know.. Hahaha. Thanks. I always see this button and wanted to research but end up forgeting to research what the button does..luckily this video showed up. Haha
You can just look in your camera body manual. They explain it there. As a matter of fact, they explain what every button does.
Thank you so much for your videos. Short, simple, clear, and to the point. Awesome for hobbyists like me, that want to get better, and learn more.
So that's what it's for! Seriously, I did know about DoF Preview Button but had never used it. But I most certainly will from now on, always. Thank you for this very, very useful knowledge and most helpful tutorial.
2:23 The most important bit of information.
Thank you for the quick, non-meandering video tutorial.
A photography explanation under 10mins that is very useful. That's rare, great video 👍🏼
Great, great, video. I particularly like the lack of obnoxious movie, the lack of someone who thinks they're funny making stupid jokes - (there's nothing unfunnier that someone who thinks they're funny) - no long intros or outros or self promotion and so...subscribe! Great stuff
Quick, to the point, and all the information I wanted. Good humor to boot. Thank you.
I don't have a DSLR but I enjoyed the video and learned something
Javian Brown start with a sl2
Helpful? It was illuminating! It dramatically increased my depth of field. It, it...thank you, sir.
I appreciate your tip about using Live View with the DOF button. Thanks.
Just found this after a specific search. Excellent educational viseo, just what I was looking for. Much appreciated content.
while using flash off camera dof preview button fires flash like modeling light and shows where the light is falling
Manish Arora excelent.
That is a very useful tip, I'm just getting into flash stuff and thats really nice to know!
Why would you bother using the preview when you could just fire it once and see where it hits while reviewing the image?
Had my camera for about 10 years and only just noticed this button and had to google what it was! Thanks for the clear explanation!
First perfectly clear explanation I have heard. Will be checking out more videos.
Thank you for your clear and concise explanation of that mysterious button🙏🏾
Very good presentation and i totally agree with Martin, the way they should be done.
best teacher, you tuber ... short and to the point videos.
The best video I've seen on the function of this button, hands down. Thanks, bud.
Thank you for the explanation. I was not aware that the live view gives an accurate representation of the depth of field. Very useful.
Only video that answered me on What is the pressable button under the AF-assist beam next to the lens
there should be more videos like this on youtube, got straight to the point, very helpful!
This was a great video! I couldn’t figure out how to use this feature until now. Keep’em coming! Looking forward to what else I’m gonna find on your channel.
I'm enjoying your videos, I find your way of explaining things very straightforward. Keep up the good work, and thankyou for doing them.

Great stuff! Explained perfectly... will experiment when using the live view. thanks!

I've been using my 6D for only 5yrs and noticed it today! Started scartching my head when my nephew asked what's this button for 🤣🤣🤣
Nice! I finally know exactly how to use it. Using Live View is pure gold! Thank you!
Thanks, nice job! I think I got it! Complex subject, but needs to be made easy in order to be understood. All the best
Thanks for giving us short, concise comprehensive explanations.
XY thanks for the explanations, which are good in their content, but spoken at 120 mph, so that I had to see it several times to get all the info therein. Finally it's all round useful video.

Thanks for the tip on using the live view mode instead of the optical view finder when using the depth of field button.
I had no idea what this button was for. Thanks so much for this video, it helped a lot.
Oh shit thanks! I've been looking for an explanation for this for so damn long??!
Finally someone explains that button properly !!!
Something I wouldn't have thought to Google but super interesting to know - thanks man!
Very helpful. I enjoy your tutorials. Thanks for taking the time.
