    So I don't do this often, but like this running testimony so Sage will see it and be an encouragement to other runners
    So I started running in 7th grade. I ran a stinkin 11 minute mile, competitively, that's terrible. I had no natural ability. but I kinda liked running. So I kept doing it. Just kinda kept running and by next year I was down to a 7:15 mile or so. Fast forward to my sophomore year I'm running about 20-25 miles a week and I run a 21:55 5k as my best. My junior year my PR is 19:47. I was running I wanna say close to 40 miles a week. I had told people that I want to run in college but they thought I was crazy. BUT I HAD A VISION. I kept training and by the end of my senior year I ran an 18:46 5k (11:40 3200 equivalent). At one of the XC meets I ran into the college coach at my local University. He told me if I ran a 10:50 two mile I could walk on to the team. And from then on, I was like a dog with a bone. I didn't let that number escape my mind
    So after my senior season ended, I became possessed with that goal. I even ended up skipping track (which was cancelled anyway) to build an aerobic base. I got up to about 65 miles a week and hilly 17 milers and just kept that for about 4-5 months (with a rest week or two). Starting in March I ran a depressing 11:40 3200. I had done no speed work however. So once I started adding in the speed work I got down to a 11:24 5 weeks later. I kept doing my Jack Daniels style 400s and threshold runs and then another month later I ran a 10:44 3200. I dropped a full 40 seconds in a month. All of my hard work had paid off. Attentively I am running as a walk on at the University of North Alabama this fall once I run the time trial in front of the coach.
    If you have a dream, and are willing to sacrifice everything for it, don't let anyone tell you that it's not possible. Put in the work, be patient, and never stop working.
    @Vo2maxproductions, I want to thank you for making me a believer in aerobic mileage. Your channel has been a big reason I am the runner I am today

    I really like your honesty too Sage. It must have been hard going to New Zealand and doing really well and then the world being hit by COVID and it changing all your race/travel plans. My work has changed a lot and means that I now mainly work from home and this has given me more flexibility around my running. Keep the awesome vids coming Sage

    Sage, your honesty and perspective is incredibly encouraging! Trying to fit more running in around my schedule (since I'm one of the lucky ones who still works full-time in healthcare as well as being a full-time nursing student) has been very challenging. Just like you said, running didn't seem very important in the grand scheme of things. But it is! Finding joy and peace and fullfillment in the privilege of enjoying the outdoors, as well as building good health! This video was especially inspiring, and I thank you!!

    Sage, youre a huge inspiration. Id love to hear your thoughts on ultra marathon training and whether focusing more on doing lots of elevation gain and sacrificing a little weekly mileage or doing a little less elevation gain and running more weekly miles is more beneficial. Thanks for all the great videos, you inspired me to get out and run the moab red hot 55k as my first running race ever and it was a blast.

    How? My full runs are 2-3 miles every 2-3 days. For him it’s a warmup. I need the time in between to allow my joints and muscles to recover. and I feel like I need the rest. I keep my diet healthy, good BMI, limit animal products, I get enough calories. I replenish right after runs. I know I can do more it’s just the muscle/joint stiffness afterwards...how?

    • @jensrasmussen4052
      @jensrasmussen4052 4 года назад +1

      Maybe mix in a yoga session each week if you're having trouble with muscle and joint stiffness. Also do some warm up drills before you start, and some mobility work after. There's tons of video's on here showing examples of both.

    • @dcco76
      @dcco76 4 года назад

      Check out Sage’s stretching and strengthening videos! Core, hip, and leg strengthening will help as well as stretching to stay injury free. You can also try adding in one extra run a week where you alternate run for 1 min and walk 1min. That could help you focus on form while running but not burning yourself out trying to run for 2-3mi at a time if that’s where you’re at. Then gradually decrease your walking time or increase your running time until you don’t need the walking period much at all. As for diet make sure you’re getting adequate Omega-3’s. I notice a huge difference in joint soreness when I forget to include a source of them for a few days. Hope that gives you some helpful ideas!
