If ward only was damaged by physical damage after losing all energy shield it would be a cool defensive layers for top of the tree classes that lack phys mitigation
The thing with Ward is it really suffered from the removal of Dodge. It was released before Dodge was removed, and before Spell Supression mostly replaced Spell Dodge. It's basically limited to Block or Evasion builds; and also needs spell block or Spell Dodge [Ward is the main use for Acro]. But using Ward gear means less Evasion. That said; I have been a Ward stan, and I enjoy using Ward. As intended. It's actually pretty good; especially with an Iron Flask which lets you refresh your ward on demand. [I like triggering it on Savage Hit; since damage taken by Ward counts towards Savage Hit; and the characters who use Ward are generally quite fragile anyway] Ward is pretty good if you can avoid damage. But it is niche besides that. With a base 2 second recharge now; it's also pretty good in boss fights now, since you're not taking many hits and there's time for it to recharge, especially if you have some ward recharge gear. [It's arguably BETTER to have that HP buffer than Armour and Evasion in most major boss fights] Raider going bye bye and losing 40% supression does hurt Spell Dodge Ward however. Iron Flasks aren't as useful too with this speed of restoration; although they do still give a boost to Ward amount. Also; I'd argue the new base types and quality changes *help* Ward; since there are higher bases on Body Armour; which notably for Evasion; has a doubleing effect. So you can have higher evasion than before; while going for Triple Ward. You generally want an Evasion base body on Ward. Of course; you could use the belt, but then you're sacrificing your belt slot... Also; I'd say the buff to Versatile Combatant makes Acro less... required for Ward. Also; it's weird the +to ward on the Ward shield isn't listed on the shield stats. I can only assume it's to prevent it being scaled by + defences from equipped shield.
Imagine if there was unique that would have something like this: "Ward doesn't break if damage taken from hit is less than 10-20% of maximum Ward" Like Olroth's Resolve, but bigger hit doesn't kill you but break ward

For a brief moment I forget that block in POE means no dmg dealt because Ive been playing Last Epoch so much before the league. One really big thing for ward now imo, is the staff mastery that gives 30% increased global defenses. That's an extra 30% ward, armor, evasion, and energy shield all in one go. I also wonder if investing in ward recovery to get to .5s would be worth it, because you can get a LOT of ward now.
You still get hit more often than that. A lot of boss attacks are double taps like shaper balls. It really only works with high evasion but actively competes with it.
I went ward on my glad divine retribution to start the league! It feels awesome for the most part, I didn't get very high ward numbers, but with a recharge of less than 1 second with the faster recharge it was awesome! Really struggled with phys dots though, if i didn't instantly kill the crimson township boss I wasn't killling him at all lol
Been using the new yndas stand since day one on my Gladiator. It gives me 2110 Ward from the one slot atm, a 2110 shield that softens hits going though my block and then recharges in 2s. Also coupled it with a iron flask triggering on savage hit , meaning taking a very big hit thorugh block and ward will proc a 2400 ward shield without recharge time.
Good amount of ward, Svalinn with +5 to both max block from tree (70% each), good amount of evasion with Blind effect from tree, maxed spell dodge, Kintsugi, Wind Dancer, Dissolution of Flesh, Petrified blood, Eternal Youth. And all of it on Warden with permafreeze (to slow down even bosses). Seems tanky enough for me🤔
yeah, dots usually are major pain for ward builds. I was thinking if it may be possible to make ward agnostic build (may not have MoM), to get life regen. But on second thought it may be more efficient just to get flat life regen on gear.

Taking me time to find the gear because ssf, but I do want to try using the ward belt on a character with max block, max spell dodge, and 75+ evasion chance. Would be really fun to play a character that avoids most damage, then when you finally get hit ward kicks in for a massive damage reduction and you just brush it off.
@@MrJaldal Blind helps a lot, and there's a few ways to get 'more' evade chance. If you forgo armour it's doable. In fact, ward might be a replacement for some armour particularly vs bosses.
I've been using Ward some in 3.25. What makes it viable to me in this league is the easy access to damage avoidance through Lucky Block on the new Gladiator, which makes you essentially immortal in mapping, which can then be supplemented by the flat EHP added by Ward to defend against big slams. Also synergizes well with (the frankly underused) Petrified Blood, resulting in a pretty tanky build that's easily achievable in SSF.

Hey, great video. You didn't mention the changes to Olroths Resolve. Making it less viable to go Wardloop this league. If you choose to use the new Belt, you would be giving up the flask uptime in comparison with using a rare one. Making it more difficult to automate Wardloop flasks. Anyway, they made Wardloop this league to be really more difficult to build. You need perfectly rolled Ward gear now.
Isnt meant to another layer than ALL in on it? The change to 2 sec and the belt have good potential I think. But I am yet to test in game, only pobed it so Far. Luckly the belt is crazy cheap
I used Ward before these changes on Raiders; using high evasion and Acrobatics. Ward was the main use for Acro; and combined with an Iron Flask; I actually had really high survivability. Ward helps you not go splat when you DO get hit.
Im going to use a trickster with evasion es chest and yndas belt for ward, and the new shield for 90% block, 70% spell dodge, 90% evade, and then ward, steelskin, and decent life and es pool.
Dream i know a solid way to use all of the new items and setups. Could do it with a grasping mail with fractured base and the new belt. Craft the chest for giga armor/eva and that should give you a ton of flat ward (1k+) and 50% more ward. Scale %increases to es on tree by abusing things like adorned, clusters, the emergy from within jewel. And even nerfed olroth gives you an obscene ward permanently
If damage gets fully absorbed by Barkskin (Warden passive), would that prevent ward from getting broken? Maybe it's no coincidence they had this interaction in mind when releasing it on the same patch?
hi, i feel you missed the occasion to mention any kind of order of damage taken here. Let say im a witch with bastion of element, steelskin, ward, energy shield and life (also max block in my case but whatever) i take an elemental hit Does it goes first through bastion, then steelskin then ward then energy shield making ward kind off specialized against physical hit for an elementalist?
I'm going to try Ward in this league. I still dream of building a Beacon of Medness build and Olroth's Resolve to have permanent unbreakeble ward. Basicaly any hit damage will be reduced by ward number, so keystones as Unbalanced guard will help.
I'm currently playing as deadeye flicker strike with that belt, svalin shield and quite good evasion. I have 1800 hp, 2k evasion body (so 1k ward), and It feels quite tanky. I just have to avoid some dots, but that's all.
Can we in theory, get enough added chaos from "Nightgrip" gloves with the new belt? It would be 300 added chaos from the "fine" body armour you showed.
They want ward to be somewhat a thing in poe. And the last thing to do is to give a place to ward in the skill tree in my opinion. I don't really know why they didnt't do that at the first place, but it would make sense in my opinion to give access to all classes the option to ward in their own way if they wanted to.
tnx 4 vid u always read my mind just making a block build and thinking how ward would be nice ...also question whats with mageblood and ward bottle ? can u stack that ? how that work to be blunt :D
Iron Flask with Mageblood adds the ward from the flask all of the time, but the restore on use part of the flask doesn't interact because you never use the flask
@@1ordof1o1 Yes, since there's no % increased ward on the passive skill tree etc. global defenses is a very powerful stat for scaling ward, as ward is considered a basic defense type alongside armour, evasion and energy shield
Can you use a recombinator to get Faster restoration of Ward on a armour base glove or boots? I have tried but haven't had luck yet. I know you shouldn't be able to get the +# ward or +#% increased ward, but I think it should be posible for the restoration, since it is not a local modifier. I am trying a gladiator with ward, I feel super tanky with just 3000 life and 2000 ward on a 1 sec ward restoration. Also, for anyone who wants to try it, you should get a Iron flask with "use when you take a savage hit", so if you get hit to break the ward, hit again and take a good amount of damage, you restore ward. You would have to either be hit a bunch of times in a second, which should be unlikely with lucky block, or be hit really hard to be killed. Also, I am using the amulet The anvil, which seem super powerful with lucky block, but I haven't seen anyone mention it before. Anyways, love you videos, have a good one.
I haven't tested for the recombinator, but it may be possible and would be quite useful with the belt so you can keep your main defensive stat on that piece of gear
It's actually in a much better state now! I don't think you need to invest much into ward tho. Just a belt and a good armour+evasion should be enough. Think of it as a source that helps you mitigate some big slams from bosses, time it with guard skills. Honestly i think ward is currently on of the best way to increase life pool for bossing, anything else will require far higher investment.
Its worth noting that the boots give permanent adrenaline to builds that are capable of hitting themselves. Since the adrenaline lasts for 3 seconds and ward will come back after 2 seconds, you would want a 34% roll on the boots to line it up with the adrenaline. Then you hit yourself to break the ward and get adrenaline again.
I think GGG should have gone further, like hybrid bases with ward or a new army in legion, with gems that change and strengthen ward. For example less ward but it works for multiple hits or ward no longer works for hits but is absorbed by dot.
I agree with this - I actually half expected a new legion fragment for a kalguuran army so that you could now do six-way legion, perhaps something for the future
Ward has always been extremely good. But most people just never give it a try. Slap a high ward item with a decent iron flask and trigger on savage hit on a character with some evasion layers and you'll see how crazy it is.
But, how does it work? If i have ward 200 and i take 2 hits for 150 each, does the ward fail? What it i take a 300 hit? Do i take 300 points of damage or 100 points?
Haven't played much this league, but I was wondering if there's something in iron flask use when reaching full and charge on crit, increased flask charges per mana burn mastery, and the unique mana burn on hit and elemental pen tinctures on warden. If you stack a lot of mana burn, you'll gain full charges and ward every few attacks. With the unique tincture giving damage scaling off what's needed for this setup.
I think the main problem with Ward is that the situations where you die from one big hit are actually quite rare ... sure slams and such exist but you should be avoiding them. Other mechanics are mostly DD and some rare juiced monster that can deliver big hits. What is way more common is that you die from multiple small to medium hits in short succession. If you have a high evasion build and you get in a situation where you take enough hits that it kills you through your evasion ... ward is not gonna save you it makes you life 1 milisecond longer. Even if ward did not have a value and just prevented ANY hit regardless of size every 2 second I think it would be incredibly niche and only save you from about 5% of deaths you take in the game. It would be way more usefull if it did not shatter with any damage and instead remained at the lower value and just filled up every 2 seconds. (but mabye that would be OP I would have to think in detail about it you probably would have to restrict how much the 2 seoncs could be lowered in that case)
Problem with this belt: its compete with molten shell. Its have cd of 3s, will not break from small hit, will not grab defences at all. And belts nowadays give up to 180life and 500armour itself. And most importantly: chasing uniques; why you shall do build with this belt, when mageblood/hh will be upgrade. Maybe its have point to build eva/acrobatics but anyway that 3k extra ward have no point in mapping and willnt save you in ubers. Too bad, ggg nerfed resolve flask.
I am building my wealth so I can make my immortal ward trickster. Gonna be so funny, and when it is done, I will produce a video showcasing it. 😂 It should be absolutely immortal, 100% up time immortality. 😁
No. My Chinese friend played wardloop with extreme experience gear High dps Extreme block suppress evade armour And he have alot crafted armour weapon jewel mirror price sell in poe trade
I still feel like ward is not interesting enough to really invest in it, they need to do better than this, otherwise there are just too many better ways to mitigate damage
it would already help if ward could shield you for the amount of ward you have instead of beeing depleted after one attack. kinda like how steelskin and molten shell work
They would have to completely nerf the utility then. It would just be a superior energy shield. Ward having synergy with evasion/block is a good thing.
@@gabrielsmith3993 @MrJaldal no, it would recharge even in situations where you take damage, but would be more difficult to scale. so you get an advantage compared to energy shield in its recharging and the fact that chaos doesnt bypass it, but you have the drawback of more difficult scaling.
I don't understand the point of this mechanic. It's basically life, but shit. I see no reason to have 2k ward instead of having an extra 2k life. None. Life you can leech, you can recoup, you can regen, you can gain on hit and all of it is instant. Life also protects against damage over time. Ward does not. Ward takes 4 seconds before it regenerates, doesn't protect against damage over time and the thing depletes completely on ANY hit no matter how small. What is the point, I honestly I don't get it?

@@dreamcore_gg god bless u man
kudos for the intro
I haven't tested for the recombinator, but it may be possible and would be quite useful with the belt so you can keep your main defensive stat on that piece of gear
kek anvil is so old school. I really like bringer of rain on glad but both would be silly amounts of block
If you like it is great!! But I don't think it is worth to give up your amulet slot for that one unless you on very scuffed gear on league starter
@@nicholasfigueiredo3171 Probably not, but I haven't feel the need to change it yet
Wonder if its worth trying on a deadeye
Its worth noting that the boots give permanent adrenaline to builds that are capable of hitting themselves. Since the adrenaline lasts for 3 seconds and ward will come back after 2 seconds, you would want a 34% roll on the boots to line it up with the adrenaline. Then you hit yourself to break the ward and get adrenaline again.
Great vid, can you provide shipment cheat sheet?

Someone needs to give this man a ward!
Slap a high ward item with a decent iron flask and trigger on savage hit on a character with some evasion layers and you'll see how crazy it is.
but if ward absorbs most of hit damage, hot do you get savage hit?
@@vi8799 here's a video of me running ward 2 years ago
ruclips.net/video/vBo9p-mXjx4/видео.html
But, how does it work? If i have ward 200 and i take 2 hits for 150 each, does the ward fail? What it i take a 300 hit? Do i take 300 points of damage or 100 points?
I hope you also talked about the night grip glove because there is no better chance 😂
Nope, the vid is just about the concept of ward as a defensive mechanic
Haven't played much this league, but I was wondering if there's something in iron flask use when reaching full and charge on crit, increased flask charges per mana burn mastery, and the unique mana burn on hit and elemental pen tinctures on warden. If you stack a lot of mana burn, you'll gain full charges and ward every few attacks. With the unique tincture giving damage scaling off what's needed for this setup.
Wonder if the ward rune is worth it
I feel like ward is hindered by the absence of mixed bases. If there were ward/evasion bases it would feel MUCH better to use.
Ward still feel like it needs something. Hybrid Ward bases could be interesting but weirdly potentially too powerful
I think ward is a missed opportunity and need more help or just a rework
maybe ward/evasion bases will work
I think the main problem with Ward is that the situations where you die from one big hit are actually quite rare ... sure slams and such exist but you should be avoiding them.
Kind of a hot take I know, but Ward should be the go to 2nd defensive layer for Evasion based characters
6:06 - "y'understand" ? )) - which is short way to say "you understand"
Ward: Still probably not very good
Using Nightgrip to get even more flat chaos than a strength stacker? Dope.
can you make a video about holy relic?
I find ward to be great this league, the new shield gets 90% block so having a buffer when u actually get hit....juat the belt competes with so much!
Something tells me Ward Loopers are gonna be much less prone to 1 shots now
Problem with this belt: its compete with molten shell.
These fucking intros are worth watching alone! Haha
I'm pretty sure that belt got me killed on my HC juggernaut. But that's definitely my fault
I am building my wealth so I can make my immortal ward trickster. Gonna be so funny, and when it is done, I will produce a video showcasing it. 😂 It should be absolutely immortal, 100% up time immortality. 😁
evasion char with spell dodge has entered the chat
Add versatile combatant for an extra 65% roll to not take damage

No.
My Chinese friend played wardloop with extreme experience gear
High dps
Extreme block suppress evade armour
And he have alot crafted armour weapon jewel mirror price sell in poe trade
Been playing the game off and on since the start and i didnt know ward was even in the game
gg
I routinely forget ward is a thing
I still feel like ward is not interesting enough to really invest in it, they need to do better than this, otherwise there are just too many better ways to mitigate damage
We don't have ward support on the passive tree, but we have links skills and tinctures. Go figure.
it would already help if ward could shield you for the amount of ward you have instead of beeing depleted after one attack. kinda like how steelskin and molten shell work
Then it would just be energy shield.
Well, thats basically Energyshield than, isnt it ?
They would have to completely nerf the utility then. It would just be a superior energy shield. Ward having synergy with evasion/block is a good thing.
Make ward only be damged by phys dmg and after losing energy shield , so int builds have physical mitigation possibilities vs one shots
@@gabrielsmith3993
@MrJaldal no, it would recharge even in situations where you take damage, but would be more difficult to scale. so you get an advantage compared to energy shield in its recharging and the fact that chaos doesnt bypass it, but you have the drawback of more difficult scaling.
tom welling from smallville in the intro? I'm wet!
Good video but Ward still seems like a mechanic which should be removed.
You don't even know
@@VvilliamJones Meaning that it isn't even in POE2 and planned to be removed from POE? Or it is so OP the secrete farmers use it?
@@Stonegoal immortal builds man
Why did GGG introduce the ward mechanic to the game, and it's not useful? Because they stole the idea from other aRpgs. Simple.
You can't really compare it to life though, you can't get 800 life from a helmet, apples and oranges. Also it restores in 2 seconds, not 4 seconds
