The greatest flyhalf I ever saw! Phil was an elusive runner, could sidestep off two quick feet & had a great pair of hands. He played in an age of glorious running rugby! Much missed RIP.
As a South African and having watched Phil Bennett tear us apart in 1974 during the Lions tour, we have always had massive respect for him. However I was never quite aware of the legacy he has left as Phil Bennett the man, for being so humble and down to earth and putting so much back into rugby and his community. He will be missed. RIP.
I grew up in the seventies watching Phil Bennett and the rest of the Grand Slam Welsh team. Memories I'll never forget. Legends may pass away, but are NEVER forgotten.
OMG, I Am here watching this blessed video again. Phil is brilliant, I loved this man. God bless you and I hope you are kicking penalties and conversions in heaven. Chris, thanks so much for making this. Phil, legend, rest in peace.
Here we go again, honestly I watch this a couple of times every week. Probably my favourite video on RUclips. Phil Bennett was amazing, and I am a paddy. What a guy, Welsh rugby was the best when I was growing up in the 70s, I wanted nothing more than my beloved ireland to be like them. Phil, you are the salt of the earth, I hope you are playing rugby in heaven.
This is crazy, I am watching this for about the tenth time I just love it that much, and I am a flipping paddy! So much I just love about it. The humility of the players is striking me this time, Phil and Gareth, 2 legends, both kept it quiet about retiring because they did not want the day to be about them. The modern player could not do this and that is a shame. Love Phil, love this era of Welsh rugby, even though my poor Irish lads took more than a few thrashing from this lot! Sport is about winning and losing, and sometimes you just have to step back and say that the victor was just simply better than you.
What a player, what a man. I am splitting my sides laughing watching this. One of the all time greats, rip Phil you will be lighting up heaven as we speak.
After watching the England game against Argentina last night, the one thing that was missing was the flair that Phil and a lot of the Welsh had back in the 70’s
A great interview. Phil Bennett was a joy to watch and I never tire of seeing clips of his flair and genius playing for Wales in particular, but also the Lions and the Barbarians.
They are always nice to hear, but these guys must have got so so sick of trotting out the same old stories for the past 40+ years, but they always do so with good humour. Not sure I could have done that.

As an Englishman, I think Phil Bennett was the best fly half, and the Welsh are the proudest nation when it comes to their rugby
