I was too young to see these earlier episodes. They're a trip.
Maggie being the world weary blonde haired wattress lol
Vicki trying to have a normal conversation with Elizabeth. 😂
    Carolyn dancing 😂

I think she only wore that blonde wig in one episode, then went to her real hair. She dropped the "honey," "sweetie" stuff after the first episode, too.

Carolyn sure knows how to stir up excitement at the Blue Whale. Before the fighting got too out of hand Burke looked like he was ready to knock a few heads.

I don’t think that that many people were ever seen again in The Blue Whale during DS’ run.
Incidentally, that particularly obnoxious guy Joe Haskell punches in the labanza was portrayed by actor Alan Feinstein, perhaps best known for his role as one of Diane Keaton’s paramours in “Looking for Mr. Goodbar.”

Yes, Mr. Drummond killed off in a color episode a year or two later by the werewolf.

I wonder if Blue Whale bartender Bob Rooney changed the motif of the bar in 1975 to a more contemporary style like the bar/disco John Travolta and his friends hung out in “Saturday Night Fever”?

I always liked the trademark flannel shirts Bob wore while tending bar at the Blue Whale. I wonder if Bob wore flannel shirts from Sears Roebuck or from L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine?
By the way, I always liked hearing Bob’s heavy Queens, NY accent during the few times that he actually got to speak on the show.

@@kensellers4082 Maybe Bob moved from Queens to Maine?Maybe Bob had many secrets himself? He could of bought his shirts from Sears bc they were cheaper at Sears but is there a Sears in Collinsport/Freeport in the 60's & 70's? L.L. Bean is expensive but might be one of the few places in town to purchase his attire?

      Laura,
Since Bob was probably a typical “frugal” New Englander, if he shopped at L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine, he most likely went to Bean’s outlet/return store in Freeport to get a bargain.
Incidentally, actor Bob O’Connell, who portrayed Bob Rooney, was from Queens, NY, where he was a NYC fireman for many years before becoming an actor.
In addition to his role on DS, Mr. O’Connell appeared in many films like “Love Story” as a doorman and as an FBI agent in the Woody Allen film, “Bananas.” He also played a NYC policeman in several films.

@@amyepstein4868 The other scenes I liked on D.S. "The Beginning" was outdoor scenes & shots. Roger walking back to his office at the Cannery waving to other folks outside before going back to work. Cars driving by the Collins Port Inn before the indoor scenes. I know that as time went on they got away from that.

@Bruce Yes...all the signs of natural life going on around the Collins family.
And then the Blue Whale and Collinsport Inn went away, too.
Not that I minded the vampires, and werewolves and witches. I loved it all.
But a cup of coffee and piece of fresh apple pie really would have hit the spot!
Oh yeah, I loved seeing the characters outside Collinwood and The Old House. Those were very old episodes, the beginning.

Vicki sure has met some strange folk, on her arrival in Collinsport! I don't think I like that Burke Devlin, and why did Maggie Evans call her a jerk? She didn't even know Vicki! How rude! Cool story! It's something like the book I have.
This video reminds me of a story from THE TWILIGHT ZONE! lol! These videos are great! TFS! ~Janet in Canada

The earliest episodes where they establish the characters were really good. In some ways better than the ones after everything went supernatural ... but we know it wouldn't be Dark Shadows without the turn toward the supernatural.
I even liked the black and white - it was jarring when it suddenly changed to color.

BRIEF COMMENT: Not that it matters now, all these years later, but it occurred to me that the character of Carolyn Stoddard should have been away at college, not dancing at the Blue Whale w/her flavor of the month boy toy & being rebellious at home w/her aunt & Uncle. Seems silly to me now all these years later. A young lady like that needs dicipline from her elders, (aka) A good spanking to teach her dicipline & who is in charge at Collinwood.
