I love how the end of Episode Cliffhanger is actually super obvious in hindsight. Like why else would they attack Appa with fireball when they attempt to fly over the montain?
Their is something incredibly adorable about Momo sleeping on Sokka’s chest and Sokka being completely chill about it as he lies back on a giant leaf floating calmly in a stream.
15:00 one of my favorite and most underrated moments of the entire show. The writers don’t even bother to come up with a reason for those guys to leave. They just straight up said “nope” and left 😂
That's not the writers choosing not to give them a reason. They literally wrote these people as wanderers who literally make decisions on a whim. There's no narrative need for them to HAVE a reason.
@@amypetty5013 There's no narrative need for them to have a reason. IE: The writers don't even bother to come up with a reason for those guys to leave.
@@cynicat74 No, they wrote them as being wanderers who go wherever they want and make decisions on a whim. It's not that the writers didn't bother to come up with a reason, it's that the writers wrote the characters in a way that the only reason necessary was that the nomads didn't want to. That's not the same as not bothering to come up with a reason.
@@en4833 What is it with you bellends being so damn facetious? First someone argues with OP, only to repeat the exact same comment, now it's you doing the exact same thing.
Fun fact: the lead nomad/Secret Tunnel singer is Dee Bradley Baker, aka the voice of Appa and Momo. Dude must have had such fun voicing the chillest dude in the Earth Kingdom (and the reason for Sokka's red forehead).
Zuko is such a complex character, you can see throughout the show the kind of person he is and see how he's a complex antagonist and struggles with his morals, it's even present in the earliest episodes but I feel it get more focused on in this season.
Omashu taken over is like the first time we actually see the fire nation progressing in the war since Aang got out of the iceberg in episode 1. Its confirmation that, yes, they are winning. Aang and his friends can only have their crazy adventures one place at a time after all.
The change in art style for Oma and Shu's legend is a hallmark example of what makes this series great. This is considered a lesser episode (And I still think it's very strong personally) and so, they didn't need to put as much effort into a side story as much as they did. And yet it's just the animators cracking their knuckles beautifully.
Well, if you're thinking about the show adding different art styles in lesser episodes, The Great Divide is a prime example. Probably the best part about that whole episode.
I like how the show runners tell you the history of Omashu just to reveal that it's been taken over by the Fire Nation... Quality world building that still moves the story forward👌

there are so many great moments in this show. but the thing that will never get old for me is seeing people's reactions to FINALLY knowing what the hell "SECRET TUNNEL" is
This episode is loved by all not only for showing a little more of the Aang Katara relationship, but also for the sick banger that is SECRET TUNNEEEEEEEEEL! SECRET TUNNEEEEEEEEL!!!!, man i love Avatar.
Totally agreed with you all about Suko´s part. This could be literally the very first time that he sees the common people´s perspective in how they are living through the war. First time I saw that I was like "Oh man, Suko finally gonna learn the other side´s situation? really hope so".
I love seeing the joy of discovering where a meme/sound comes from in the faces of everyone that watches this show for the first time. Truly magnificent.
I love the story of the two lovers, the lore with the badgermoles and the war, the art style change , everything (but I also can't help but giggle at their names sometimes, because I'm German and their names sound just like the German words for grandma (Oma) and shoe (Schuh))
For how mostly upbeat the gang's story is, Zuko's side is actually pretty rough, like the scene where the young woman shares her scar with Zuko gets me. Like just such a visceral reminder of the personal scars the victims of the conflict carry, after being driven from their homes.
And the look on his face when she does. You can tell he's never spoken to someone on the other side who's been hurt like that. Just a civilian too; he may have thought up until then that the Fire Nation only harmed enemy soldiers. Propaganda is a hell of a drug.
I just find it really weird to ship these people at all tbh. The "main" romance in this show is its weakest aspect imo, the only interesting relationships are Suki/Sokka, and Mai/Zuko. Everything else just feels a bit forced.
I’ve seen this episode used to both ship Aang and Katara, and Katara and Zuko. It’s not just the fandom, the writers were divided as the show was going too.
The trick isn't about a kiss, it's not magic. Otherwise how would the couple have been able to find each other coming from different ends of the cave? It's just a riddle about the glow-in-the-dark crystals and needing to put out the torches. So Katara and Aang may or may not have kissed, they don't tell us. Edit: I know you ended up realizing this too, but I’m leaving my comment up bc some people still insist on lack of media comprehension lol
Or the 2 lovers didn't know it either at the beginning. Maybe they had torches until they made love. :D And most people turn the lights off (or out). Do to them being earthbenders, thx to the badgers, they didn't had a difficult search for each other. :D But yeah the stones do shine without help :D

I suppose they did, actually. You can see them still lovingly holding each other's hands for a moment after the crystals light up. Then Katara is taken aback by the crystals and the realisation the kiss wasn't actually necessary, and Aang feels awkward as the moment slips away.
There’s a lot of reasons hair is significant in lots of cultures but one I am aware of in China is the the belief that everything about your body was a gift from your parents/ancestors, including hair, which is why it was taboo to cut it.
