+Feli Vigneau Chroma key is a powerful effect for HitFilm and I'm afraid it's only available in HitFilm 3 Pro. You can see exactly what's available in HitFilm 3 Express compared to Pro in this handy chart: hitfilm.com/store/hitfilm-3-express Hope that helps!

+HitFilm Hitfilm is a great software that I use a lot, and these videos are very helpful and help me to do a lot. I believe that instead of using the Chroma key, for those with Hitfilm 3 express, you can use the demult effect in the keying folder. I have used the demult effect before and it does the same things chroma key does as far as I can tell.
My laptop can't handle all the masking, ughhh!! So frustrated! Doing this is so much fun but the lag sucks it all out. Hope I'll get to upgrade my hardware and get to trying all of these. Anyhow, thanks so much for the awesome tutorials. I love this program.
Super video, thank you! I just have a little problem: I use hitfilm 3express and I don't have the chroma key effect. Is it normal? Is there another way to do that?
Question about adding a still shot picture. When I load it into the trimmer screen it looks just fine but when it's in the viewer screen it is cropped?? At first I thought the scale was off which it was at first. So I scaled it out till you start seeing the black and gray grid. So it only went so far and is still cropped. What am I missing? Hope you can help. Thanks.
Hi, make sure that the project canvas matches the same resolution as the image. If you're unable to match the resolution, ensure that the aspect ratio is the same and scale the image accordingly. No cropping should occur unless you want it to. If you're still having troubles please send a query to us here: hitfilm.com/questions/submit and include some screenshots of the issue so we can take a closer look. - Oli (HitFilm staff)

2:00 I have a shortcut for you... Use photoshop or any other image editor with auto-selection tool to mask out the backgrounds, then fill the areas you would've removed with green or blue depending on your image. Export a new for each layer and there you have, far easier and quicker layers
Can someone help me, I can't adjust the comp settings to match the image of the canyon. When I click to make it a composite shot, it pulls up as my timeline settings of 1920x1080 and when I try to change it manually, it stops at 388x258 and won't let me add the third digit. Any help would be appreciated!
Great tutorial sir. Do you have Book opening animation tutorial like for example a Year book opened then a photo will pop out or something like that? :) tnx alot
+Culing Bermil We don't have a tutorial for that effect however the HitFilm community is full of skilled, generous users who will be happy to help you work out how to do it if you'd like to start a thread: hitfilm.com/forum
Hi you guys! Still watching this cool informative video, but up to frames 7:40 and the Arizona Landscape discussion, I confidently feel I could achieve similar "moving layer footage" inside *Photoshop* 7 and *ImageReady* . I can even export that Canyon Composition as a *Quicktime* File, from Imageready, and then bring it into *Hitfilm* *Express* . Or I could "stop" early inside Photoshop, and export *PNG* Layers of the foreground , mid ground, and background to begin velocity speed control animation on each separate Arizona Grand Canyon pic layer. Guess I'm saying I can more quickly mask out, separate, cut up, or split a Grand Canyon photo inside Photoshop first, then import the layer files into Hitfilm. Who's with me?
I was following along ok until you said to scale the distance layer until it fits the frame. Now I’m lost. You did something with the cursor and I have no idea what. I’m physically dragging edges of my image around, trying to make it fit. Help!
In the transform properties for the Distance layer Axel first pushes it back on the Z axis so that it's far back from all other layers. He then clicks the Scale property (by default set to 100%) and drags the mouse to the right to increase the Scale to about 144%. The numbers for all properties like this can be manually entered if you click on the number and type on the keyboard or will also work if you click and drag left or right with the mouse :) I hope this makes sense - if you need any additional explanation please let me know. - Oli (HitFilm Staff)
I wonder, I have seen many people do videos where they take an actors still face and give it dimensions, or make their clothing warp and wave in the wind in order to give them new expressions or put them in a new environment for fanmade films. I've tried this using the effect you just showed in this video and it words but not very powerfully. Do you know anyway to achieve this?
+Phoenix 24 If you're trying to place actors in a new environment for a fan made film, you can use green screen and HitFilm's powerful chroma key: ruclips.net/video/WKu6usF9RF4/видео.html Hope that helps!
Thanks. I am familiar with Chroma key and you would need that. What I mean is, in order to make them fit that environment better I have seen some people that can make their faces move to give them new expressions and make clothes move to simulate the wind. Basically add movement to the clip that wasn't there originally to make them fit a new environment better. I don't know if you know how this could be achieved? If you don't know what I mean I can link you to someone that did it as an example
Do filmmakers really need another motion graphics application to edit and composite? In the main people seem happy working in Avid's Media Composer; or Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop. There may be drawbacks with these Adobe applications, but then there are drawbacks to ALL applications. Photoshop is the best application I have found to process still images, and it dovetails beautifully with AE and PP.
Tried this tutorial with Film pro and express, both times as soon as I create the composite, the image is so zoomed in even though it says scale to fit. I've tried with other images of smaller sizes. As soon as I drag them into a new composite...images are wayy too zoomed in and cut off. Help!
If your layer resolution is larger than your timeline resolution, then you will need to reduce the scale of the layer to get it all to fit. Or, create the timeline at the actual resolution of the image, as explained at around 1:20 in the video.
My resolution is currently 1920x1080, making the image too zoomed in. It won't let me change the size, tried typing the numbers but I just always get stuck on a 3 digits number (always on a hundred). I don't know how to fix this, please help =O
If you are editing in hitFilm 4 Express, 1920 x 1080 is the max resolution you can use. If you want to use higher resolutions, HitFilm Pro 2017 supports resolutions up to 8K.
Dear HitFilm guys is there anyway to render/save my videos in another format than .hpf so I can upload straight from my computer instead of using the hitfilm uploader

When making the grand canyon image into a composite shot, the width and height are locked at 1920 by 1080
Never saw a response on this question but it has been asked twice... guess no response/answer means it is locked.
It sounds like you are using HitFilm Express, which supports timelines up to 1920 x 1080. Higher resolutions, up to 4K are supported in HitFilm Pro.
