If you go to a recruiting office, wear a tie, don't look like a bumb of the street or a video gamer, impress your recruiter and show him that you are professional and sirrious to join, he will go the extra length when problems arise, he or she will apreciate it well.
Jabba Wabba hmm, well then go in pajamas and slippers, I'm sure they will put you on top of their list and if they say no, their is always the fast food industry, better yet, why work? Just sit at home on your mamas couch and and collect a check.
The tie had me 😆 . Show up, go to meps, get a 62 or higher on the asvab, pass your physical and drug test and they’ll take ya. The recruiters have quotas to make they don’t care wtf you’re wearing as long as you qualify and sign on the dotted line
Ok, former coast guard here If u get ready to join and want to become an Mk, don't, become a DC instead and learn how to pipe weld, once you get out, u make 3-4 times more money as a welder than a mechanic, I once where a MK worked on Diesel engines, which was nice because mechanics is all I knew all my life, then I learned to Pipe weld and now work in refineries and make well over six figures a year. Avionics is great, IT or quarter master. Great life if you are on a ship. Just my 2 cents
Quartermaster hasn’t been a rate for a long long time. Also you can learn how to pipe weld anywhere. I’d say MK is definitely the better rate for after the coast guard. Look how much those MTU guys make coming and working on the WMSLs. Big bucks
Shabrece Cooper when you see a recruiter you should be asking them the questions. Don’t go to one thinking they’re gonna try and convince you to join. If you want convincing go to a marine, army navy or Air Force recruiter
I’m pumped. I’m going to meps this coming monday, then my recruiter estimates by october i’ll be in boot camp. I’m almost 21 years old and it just feels like for the first time in my life I actually know what I want to do.
Replying to my own comment as an update lol. Coast Guard disqualified me for poor eyesight and didn't approve my waiver. However I got a call from an Army recruiter a few months later, they were wondering if I'd be willing to go back to MEPS. Enlisted as a 14E for 3 years with a 20K bonus. Shipped out February of 2019 Completed basic training, AIT, an ASI school I got selected for and went to my first Duty Station in AUAB Qatar. Spent a year over seas and then ended up in Fort Bliss, TX. I've enjoyed my time in the service and for all the good and the bad I actually just reenlisted recently for another 3 years. If you want to serve find what works for you and never forget how badly you wanted to be here, if you choose not to serve or chose to only do one contract there is no shame in that. Do what makes you happy and chase after the goals you genuinely feel motivated to pursue.
Tip my hat to you - that's exactly how I joined. Looked at other branches of service, but the Coast Guard is what I choose with ABSOLUTELY NO regrets! 7 years gave me enough law enforcement experience to put me in the job I wanted after getting out. Retired from Justice Department and life is good👍 Coast Guard 1980 - 1987.
I joined at 17. My dad had to sign papers . I was one of the youngest in boot camp. I was scared to death. I knew how to sail and nautical knots. Dad showed me first aid as capt of the fire dept. I could shoot good too. After a week I got the routine down . Had fun to especially at the range. Got pistol and rifle medals. Did great in the pool. Best time in my life. I was still in high school while in boot camp. Didn’t graduate until 2 months when I was active duty. I looked 14 got asked about my age in boot camp from company commanders. Did 4years at a busy SAR station. Saw shit most adults never see. Got to rescue people . Froze my butt off in the north Atlantic. Best time ever in my life. After that got hired by the state troopers on the spot. The law enforcement training in the coast guard was a major help. I would do it all over again at 17.
Well good luck I did 10 years in the coast guard right out of high school 2009 I didn't have a dad figure in my life I had hey Uncle my uncle Richie who was in Vietnam and I asked him can you workout with me senior year and he did he was there when they pick me up from high school I didn't even go to graduation I turned eighteen in April he was there when they pick me up all the way until I got on the bus his one advice was listen to him and a marine is never last
It’s not like that nowadays I started the process near the end of 2020 so I’m guessing covid still had a big effect on everything. I met my recruiter once and that was about two years ago before I was even thinking of the coast guard as a career. We just talked over the phone about everything that needed to be done. I still went to meps and dep like normal.
Marisol Paramo Hello. Being that you asked of these concerns about two years ago, this response I know is incredibly late. Perhaps you've already joined & found out what was needed. Perhaps you've not joined yet & still wondering, or maybe you'll never join???...Anyway, regardless of all that as a former Seaman Recruit, I will admit to you that I was unable to complete my basic training though it was back in Nov.98-Jan.99' Apparently, I just wasn't up to snuff out there on icy cold compound in Cape May...lack of military bearing. Also, I had some knee trouble as well which wasn't that much of a surprise. I have no regrets or bitterness though from this harrowing experience since it taught me in a different way what I was & am really worth. But be that as it may, the sheer basics of what I noticed amongst most of my fellow shipmates was that they were naturally much more competitive, & also much more prone to aligning themselves with the 'snap-it-up' mindset. Which basically means conformity at all costs. All Armed Services have their own specific mission(s), & basic training styles differ sometimes greatly. I was terrified, yes. But that can be overcome & great experiences can be achieved if you want it badly enough. I've found that out though for plenty of years since then. Good luck.
I’m already working with a recruiter and it’s with a girl and I only wanna do the Coast Guard because after I leave the Coast Guard I wanna join the DEA and so I know these guys can help me out
Thanks for responding. Ive been doing a lot of research. So far for the most everyone who was in or still in seems to say positive stuff about the branch. I cant say the same about the Navy lol. Im glad I was in though. I want to be a CG reservist
okay so a recruiter told me by phone a decent afqt score would be a 50, online I've seen it's 40 whit high school diploma, other videos here say 60. I am 31 whit diploma , no college credits no prior military service, so I'm guessing reserves is the only thing for me?
I'm going in to meps to take asvab test and physical overview. As well as background check and even credit check. Recruiter said a waiver can be provided. But in meps will be the final decision.
+omar bernal yeah one of my buddies is 32 and he's just came in just a few months ago so it's not impossible! Good luck bro. The Guard is a good time! Work hard play hard.
you can retake it at some point or they maybe able to get you a waiver. The recruiter can request a waiver. you need at least a 34 I thought. if you got a 31 you need a 3 point waiver and thats possible
+omar bernal Ive been through it all with the coast guard need the best advice let me know I will tell you the fastest way to advancement and a good career.
Why have I never seen anyone joining the Coast Guard? There were literally no Coast Guard applicants when I went up to MEPS in Salt Lake City lol, do they have their own MEPS or what?
MartinSeptimII I know they always have their own recruiting offices, for whatever reason, so maybe they have different dates? Or times? That's the only thing I can think of.
Well then, as long as you meet the USCG requirements I don't see why you would not be able to. www.gocoastguard.com/about-us/find-recruiter : Use this to help you get started.
Only officers can become pilots so you need a college degree/be a coast guard academy graduate. Also it costs 9 grand per hour to keep those things in the air so they don't really do civilian flights. there are enlisted rates that are part of flight crews however, like electricians and mechanics and swimmers.
CabooseEcho I actually didn't even meet my recruiter face-to-face until MEPS. I had done my own research, already knew what job, etc. Boot camp is this summer.
So I wanna do Narcotics can I do that division because I wanna join the DEA when I get out of the Military so would the Coast and be a good way for me to start because I wanna go to DEA when I get out so I can do Narcotics in the coast guard right to get to my goal DEA because I wanna join the DEA when I get out of the coast guard
You can go as an ME (maritime law enforcement specialist) and get to deal with a lot of that stuff and work with the DEA and CBP. Anyone is the CG can be part of boarding teams as long as you get qualified in it. Im a mechanic and lots of people in my rate are lawdogs and love the drug interdiction stuff. Definitely a way to get your foot in the door
The Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security. I’m hoping to commission as an Officer with the Coast Guard, and work for a Federal Agency in the future. Coast Guard experience (along with a college degree) will definitely help.
Outta boot camp you put in a dream sheet of what kinda unit you want to go to and the location of where you wanna go. And the detailer does their best to fit you with where you wanna go and what's open at the time.
I ran into a couple members of the Coast Guard in Kandahar. They were inspecting shipping containers. So maybe you should know what you are talking about before you try

@@gaming_with_rex4031 had me dying. I'm super sirrious sir

How d did it go
How'd it go?
How’d boot camp go? You still in the coast guard?
I get the same feeling "feels like for the first time in my life I actually know what I want to do" with enlisting in the Navy. I hope it's correct.

It was fun serving with this kid in Kodiak.

Coast guard base Seattle! My uncle is a USCG LT. In the reserve, he is in charge of a lot of reservists there!
That's awesome good for him 👍🏼👍🏼

Shipping out December 13th
How has it been?
I’m already working with a recruiter and it’s with a girl and I only wanna do the Coast Guard because after I leave the Coast Guard I wanna join the DEA and so I know these guys can help me out
Why dont go direct to DEA😅
When you’re here, you’re family
Can I be in the reserves well in a landlocked state? If so how does that work? I can’t find anything about it on the internet.
I’m planning on doing a rescue diver there
I got recruited in the same place, shipping out soon but they let the outside of the building go
What’s the minimum contract for coast guard reserve?
Jonny Football 6 years
To be in the coast guard don't you need a asvab score of 70+?????
No. I got in with a 50 asvab score. Its all about qualifications. Weight. Height. Coast guard needs people at this time
Harold Tavarez Do u like the CG? I was prior Navy
Kayla Schregardus yes. You should join!
Thanks for responding. Ive been doing a lot of research. So far for the most everyone who was in or still in seems to say positive stuff about the branch. I cant say the same about the Navy lol. Im glad I was in though. I want to be a CG reservist
Kayla Schregardus hell yeahh. I know lots of reservists and they love it!
when i was junior i was thinking about joining, im a senior and still am
I'm a senior and I want to join to be a electrician or a dentist
Billy Bob what do you mean? The armed forces hold plenty of job positions. There’s even a gastronomy career...
How do you even contact the recruiting office, I've been calling all the offices in my area and still no one
I'm a freshmen and I want to join
You should be almost able to join now. Are you still going to do it? Just wondering cause I'm a freshman who wants to join haha
I’m a junior and I really want to join either the Navy or the CG, but I don’t have a green card 😭
Do they teach you how to swim if you don’t ?
Are you issued a lot of clothing/ uniforms in boot camp?
Should I bring an empty bag to graduation?
Is the coast guard and coast guard Auxiliary different??
okay so a recruiter told me by phone a decent afqt score would be a 50, online I've seen it's 40 whit high school diploma, other videos here say 60. I am 31 whit diploma , no college credits no prior military service, so I'm guessing reserves is the only thing for me?

MartinSeptimII I know they always have their own recruiting offices, for whatever reason, so maybe they have different dates? Or times? That's the only thing I can think of.
Because the acceptance rate is below 5% so they don't have too many people going to meps as the other services.
do I need to take the asvab to join as a reserve? I'm 39 and thinking of joining.
A bit too old man sorry
Age cutting is big, join Army. They accept recruits up to 45
Ethan Clarke I looked into it, and I believe cut-off age is 38
Refugio Ruiz My recruiter told me so. It's just paper works that need to be done.
You can join the Air Force.
Can I join the coast guard as an Officer and will the coast guard help me get in the DEA
Yes, that's all great and all, but let's say a chap, such as yours truly, was more interested in the academy, and didn't know were to start.
Am I supposed to dress up for recruiting appointments ? Well fuck, I’ve been showin up in my workout clothes this whole time
Could I transfer from the national guard to coast guard under 1 8 year contract?
How many years were you in the Natl. Guard? If you were in more then 6 years then I don't think they'll take you.
Hillbilly True 'Murican 4 years
Well then, as long as you meet the USCG requirements I don't see why you would not be able to. www.gocoastguard.com/about-us/find-recruiter : Use this to help you get started.

Im a junior, and want to join
same here
I hope your dream will come true
TheMegaKiller41 Did you join?
I want to join right after I graduate high school, what would stop me from joining?
Failing the asvab, not being medically qualified, and committing a felony.
MurtayyShawn biting your nails
my old ship the mellon whec 717
Haha I'm a junior to and I'm also joining the U.S.C.G.

This recruiter doesn't seem motivated lol.
Gen Sis Coastie recs. dont lie to you or bend over heels to get you to sign.
I was thinking the same thing
Henry Liu I noticed that w/ my recruiter too. I kinda liked it- no pressure on his part, let me choose my rate, etc.
CabooseEcho I actually didn't even meet my recruiter face-to-face until MEPS. I had done my own research, already knew what job, etc. Boot camp is this summer.

Why does the recruiter have gold wings on his uniform, he's enlisted, not an officer. Lose the Gold and get the pueter.
how does the coast guard decide if you go to a cutter or small boat station?
Outta boot camp you put in a dream sheet of what kinda unit you want to go to and the location of where you wanna go. And the detailer does their best to fit you with where you wanna go and what's open at the time.
colby boss thanks for the information
im a junior also and im going to join the U.S.C.G. too!
How is it?
Serious..
coast guard...might be nice for some folks, maybe officer...
+Richard Encarnacion Why u say that??
seems easy
At least you won't go to Afghanistan.
Yeah, no the coast guard actually can be deployed.
I ran into a couple members of the Coast Guard in Kandahar. They were inspecting shipping containers. So maybe you should know what you are talking about before you try
