Outstanding! Back in '86 I was a jarhead assigned as ship's company to the USS Saipan. As we we're leaving Norfolk for a 6 month NATO-MED float, we we're escorted out by a Coast Guard Cutter. I was just a hillbilly from Kentucky and had to ask what type of ship that was (remember, no internet in my day). When told what it was, I said "What's the Coast Guard" which got a laugh out of my peers. Of course they also had to explain what the red-light district was in Amsterdam when we visited there. Ah, simpler times. Best wishes for your career and takes lot's of photos. You future self will appreciate it.

Absolutely take pictures! I'm still fairly young, 26, but I was in the Army and I too am a hillbilly from West Virginia. I'm back in the civilian world now and alot of times I reflect on the pictures I took while in. I didn't know it then, but I appreciated the simplicity of it all. Being told what to do all the time and never having to think for myself

Glad to see you are enjoying it and looking ahead. My career was cut short do to an accident but I too enjoyed the service in the USCG way back in the 70's. I went to boot in Alameda Ca. then Yorktown for MK school then ended up in Texas where I became a boarding officer and stood OOD watch before leaving. As a unit we had some very proud moments and I also had some personal proud moments that I can reflect back on and you will too.

A whole new respect for you. Used to watch your videos for several years while restoring an old wooden boat. I served with the USCGAUX as an instructor teaching the Sailing and Seamanship course at a local high school. Used to go out on patrols with the Coasties out of Indian River station. Was wondering what happened to you, now I know. Keep them coming!

Wes you're amazing! And you had to wear with all to film it what a professional entertainer is all about. I am so incredibly proud of you. You really doing it all right this time. Thinking your way through committing and doing all types of mature self-examination and forward progress. You even married the girl of your dreams. Fantastic. So happy for you three. Speaking of three, how many of those guys at the Coast guard could say they've already sunk the first three sailboats :-)? Man I'm just kidding with you I know that's lemon juice in the eye. But I can't tell you how seriously proud I am of you guys and what you've done and how hard you worked and that I am so charmed that you kept all of us in mind by filming it and now sharing it with us. Your silence has done nothing but kept us on the hook for a couple of years now. I think I'm finally going to buy a t-shirt :-)😂

    • @WickedSalty

If you go undecided you leave boot camp as a non rate where you take time at your first unit assigned deciding on what rate(job) you want to go. If you sign for particular rate(job/profession) you go straight to A-school after boot camp to do that job at your first unit. Only some rates offer boot to A-school at certain times based off coast guards needs.
