On paper, EDG were supposed to go deep at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship.
They were the LPL’s first seed, but many were surprised to see them in the Grand Finals against the defending world champions, Damwon.
But in game one of the grand finals, EDG showed that they were ready to get creative to beat the expectations.
And in a back and forth series that went all the way to game five, both teams had to pull out all the tops. Damwon pulled off an unprecedented Baron sneak which forced the two teams into a teamfight that changed history.
Two minutes and twenty-one seconds decided the world championship. Let's break it down, second by second.

Unpopular opinion: flandre was extremely underrated in the finals

You can't really say he was overrated when all 5 of them performed exceptionally in the finals. But in someway I agree with you. Flandre's set with kennen ults was one of the deciding factors that won them the championship.

Love this series, keep them coming! I don't play most of these so it's fantastic to get a point for point breakdown of WHY these plays are so amazing beyond the face value.

this was the closest finals we had since season 6. pretty insane actually. season 7 8 and 9 were sweeps and season 10 was 3-1. worlds has had some incredibly hype series but the actual finals have been pretty lopsided most of the time, largely due to the terrible format riot still insists on using
It was still a terrible Clownfiesta for the most part. There was so much random fighting going on, it was a horrible final. I would rather have a stomped final, with some clean strategic league than this. Not to say that all of it was bad, the baron sneak was pretty cool, but there were so many draft mistakes as well as map fights going on, it was just boring to watch.

I swear this was the most hyped worlds just cause of the back to back best of 5 fights. No one sided wins, just full on trading to tie breaker.

10:31 in the finale I wanted EDG to win and At this moment, I thought that viper died. I was devastated and then when viper came, and they killed everyone I literally cried.
Love the video, keep it up. This new series in historical, every second counts feels like a polished and amazing way to retell stories many missed. You guys always need to inform everyone of the next episode, just saying the date the next one comes out gives me chills and I can't wait for the major where simple finally earns his title of GOAT.
I also like the video because I am hardstuck silver elo. Learning the higher level strategies is really cool. I enjoy the games live still but I definitely miss a lot of the subtle elements that go into the team comps and positioning in fights. Especially because everything happens so fast!

It was also crucial to point out that Beryl (Leona) had used his ultimate super early in the last skirmish which lead to Damwon with one less engage tool. Viper's flash forward was also to avoid getting hit by Syndra E which would have pushed him back and stunned him. These are just small details that lead to EDG beating Damwon at a very crucial point in the match.
The syndra E thing probably won the game. Dmg so high we would've exploated

This was the worst Viper Aphelios game I’ve seen out of all his games last year, and EDG still won anyway

He ulted when it mattered. Showmaker showed this too yesterday, he played ori mid amd ulted only once at 38 mins. And won the game from that ult

the main problem I have in league is all the skill is in getting fed or last hitting in a team fight. cos landing you entire combo takes the same skill but the result is just dependent on items. and with the new drake they are just making it harder to come back so the games are just going to get more boring and end quicker once one team gets any sort of gold lead. I would like more options for come backs and a back and forth and brawl fights in the late game. but the way game development is going that will be a thing of the past.

@@VitalyVODS I'm talking about it from a viewer perspective cos tbh apart from with friends every now and the I don't play it cos tbh I finding it boring af to play. But I find pro play fun to watch but games are going shorter with less back and forth. This is fact they are doing this to shorten game length for normal people but this is meaning pro games are going to go even shorter and will end as soon as one team get ahead. You can believe what you want but it's happening and I think its shit.

They nerfed the chemtech zones, by adding more vision plants to the rift and if you have good vision around the map it isnt that big of a problem. Objective bounties are just dumbly OP and here you are saying there is no way you can comeback. Like, play the game if you really want to say shit like that?
@@bogdan926 its simple fact games used to take an average of 35 to 45 mins just a couple of years ago now they average 25 to 35 . they are actively adding mechanics to shorten games this leads to less back and forth its fact. I'm sure spending 6 hours a day in rank fills you full of copium but stats don't lie .

Totally. Game 4 Jiejie popped off on Jarvan, his favorite champion, and made the game impossible for DWG to play. Viper and Meiko were destroying many teams before the series with the Lucian/Nami combo and Nami is one of Meiko’s best champs. And Scout and Ryze go hand in hand and EDG were able to make so many proactive plays with Ryze’s ultimate.
At the end of the day, Scout played Zoe incredibly well and you’d be right that it warrants a ban, but at what cost do they leave other picks open?
Also, it wasn't really a pick Scout had consistently picked the past year

Honestly the best best of 5 was DK vs T1. This was just EDG shitting on DK. DK was making the same mistakes they made against T1. And it looked like DK didn't even try to patch up those mistakes in the games against EDG bc they had no response.

This was dissapointing to watch, the "magical" 2 minutes starts with the team thats behind sneaks a baron, and we all love a underdog story right, but EDG still wins.. and thats what you would expect when they are up in gold and 3 drakes to 0 so im not sure what the point is with this video. If the baron kill changed the pace of the game i would get it but nope it did not, the game kept going where it was going

The only korean on EDG is viper. Each and every member had to contribute to make the win happen, so saying that you "need" koreans to win worlds here is a poor statement. Also scout is the first non korean mid to win worlds, so that should stand for something

i think it was the most boring finals to watch every team just gave up an objective until they couldn't give more objectives, it was like better prio wins all the series and that isn't really fun to watch 5 kills in 40 mins is lame
This is League of Dragons tbh. every game that T1 lost was because they aren't going for dragons early so they lose soul and then best of 5... Same for every other team and you know that if you watch Worlds every year. In previous patches it wasn't a problem, but since the new dragons(4 elements) it's not really a skill based game anymore. RIP.
Doesnt change damwon got outskilled, specially when taking into account that they had an infinitely superior comp in the early game and chose not to secure any dragons, honestly it's all on them

We can place 10K in the middle of a map and the first team to be there will get the prize and say that this is also skill based cuz if you know that, you can pick faster champs. Correct in some percent, but this is free buff with no reason and permanent advantage just like drakes. I just don't like buffs like that and securing perma buff in min. 3 of the game is a litte sh*t to me.
That's why there will never be something like winning 2 or 3 times Worlds in a row cuz there are more and more RNG changes on the map. If you lose 2 v 2 or 2 v 3 on botlane and enemies secure a dragon out of that, the only thing that you can say is "just don't lose" and nothing more.
I'm sure we wouldn't want to watch 50 min games when both team are sitting under their tower, scared to die and lose just like that.
Simple thing for a little worse teams. If you know you are worse than enemy team, you have to sacrifice everything for the Soul to have a chance to win.
You make no sense. There's a timer to let you know when it's up. It is up to your team to try and do something before it even comes up like ganoing bot and controlling that side of the map... it's not who can run faster to it what game are you playing ? Everyone's choices and mistakes takes a big role in objectives. I don't understand how you think objectives are free to grab especially with "faster" champions....
