It's not cringy because he's taking shots. It's cringy because he won't take any responsibility for Revival being trash and the entire album doesn't have any actual content or anything interesting lyrically, besides his incredible use of language, of course. No one can take his rhyme schemes away or say they're trash, or his amazing flow and delivery. However at this point in my life, I don't care as much about how well he can rap, I already know he can rap. I want to hear him say something interesting or at the very least different, and for it not to come off as super poppy and crappily produced like Revival. Lucky you is fire though. With that in mind, when you consider the structure of the whole song & its content, that one line really doesn't stand as something casually inserted without consideration. Though not much ever is with Eminem, the more I learn. I always appreciate his use of 'take me to the river' right at the start.
