    I'm probably outside the demographic for this vid as I've been pretty heavily spoiled on the game ( Very unwanted ), but like, sick vid production, it's very comfy
    Also the description hit me like a brick lol, on point ( I waited too long man Beabato would've fried my teenage brains so good)

      @dollsncrafts  2 месяца назад +2

      Ohh, I'm sorry it was spoiled for you! I got into umineko in 2010-2011 (post anime) so there wasn't much *to* be spoiled for at that point. Genuinely, I suspect there will be some surprises for you if/when you do get the chance to read it.

      Actually in the process of reading it right now (EP3), it’s a great time but yeahh. The “this would’ve been better blind” looms at some moments
      That assurance does give me hope though 👍

    I would suggest though, to maybe change the no spoilers in the title to something like spoilers for the setting or spoilers for only episode 1.

      Keep an eye out for when a new episode is being performed in Japan. In preparation for the EP 4 performance in September, Shingidan made EP 1 available for free on youtube, and had EP 2 and EP 3 available for streaming with a streaming ticket purchase. (And, they made EP 4 available the week after the performance, which was a first. I'd gotten used to having to wait until the next performance to see the previous one.)
      EP 5 is planned for February, so hopefully they will do something similar then. It takes some navigating their website to figure out how to purchase the streaming ticket, but it's pretty do-able with google translate. I keep up with announcements through their twitter account at shingidan25.

      While I wouldn't necessarily recommend reading it first, it is a great adaptation! I suspect plenty of people have only read the manga and really enjoyed it (and it was written to function on its own). I usually recommend that anyone who wants to solve the mystery for themselves read the VN first and then follow up with the manga, because while the VN gives you all the information needed to solve it yourself, the EP 7 and EP 8 manga are the only place that we get concrete solutions to the mystery elements. But, if you give yourself time to pause and think between each EP in the manga, I think it can still be a great experience. It is a shame to miss out on the music of umineko though, which is practically its own character in the VN.

      @dollsncrafts btw if its not a problem i got some questions. like how does battler not believe in magic after everything he saw (i just finished episode 3)

    • @dollsncrafts
      @dollsncrafts  2 месяца назад +2

      @@wonderhero5947 A lot of it is stubbornness on his part, to accept magic is real is to give in to Beatrice's desires, so in his mind not accepting it is a way to fight back against Beatrice and the murders that have been conducted.
      But also, IS magic real? While the world of the gameboard exists as a metaphysical space that isn't grounded in reality, that doesn't necessarily mean that the magic presented in the mystery itself has to actually be happening. Pay a lot of attention to the dialogue between Battler and Virgilia in EP 3, it really helps with understanding the nature of magic in umineko.

      Really, aside from the Beatrice doll (made by minicouturedoll) and the little peg characters (hand painted by me), almost everything here is just stuff I had around the house that fit the aesthetic lol. If you are looking for umineko merch though, I'd recommend Mercari Japan (through a proxy service).

    really good video! but i would say to begin with higurashi into umineko into ciconia or ciconia into umineko into higurashi, they all 3 (and other when they cries) help eachother to solve the mystery
    for example u get huge informations for both umi and higu wich helps u to solve the mysterys and if u start with higu u know some certain characters better (if both read yall know what i mean).
    but great video tho!

    • @espadaari
      @espadaari 2 месяца назад

      and the when they cry series is more focused on some certain
      characters thats why i say higu into umi into ciconia or ciconia into umi into higu

    • @dollsncrafts
      @dollsncrafts  2 месяца назад

      Lol see, I went: umineko (in 2010), ciconia when it came out, and didn't read higurashi until 2021, so I believe pretty strongly that you can jump in where you want, but I do get your point. Understanding ryukishi as a storyteller can be a big help in understanding the other stories, but I genuinely think they each can stand on their own.

  • @yayo3879
    @yayo3879 21 час назад

    You did not read Umineko if you did not read Higurashi first.

    • @dollsncrafts
      @dollsncrafts  20 часов назад +1

      As someone who did not read Higurashi first, I assure you that is not true lol. The ties to Higurashi are super interesting, but not essential to the experience of understanding Umineko.

    • @yayo3879
      @yayo3879 18 часов назад

      @dollsncrafts Why do you think Umineko is When They Cry 3 and 4 if you aren't supposed to read When They Cry 1 and 2 first? You have no possible argument.

    • @dollsncrafts
      @dollsncrafts  18 часов назад +1

      @yayo3879 yes, because that is the order they came out in. But they are still three distinct stories. Each makes sense on their own, but have interesting ties to each other. Your experience reading When They Cry is not the only experience of value.

    • @yayo3879
      @yayo3879 18 часов назад

      @@dollsncrafts By reading out of order, you are undermining yourself. If they were not meant to be read in order, they would not be titled as such. That they are "distinct stories" does not matter; a sequel does not need to be a direct continuation of a story on a literal level. Since you have read Umineko, it should be obvious to you that stories can continue forward on a meta level.
      Anyway, just because you read When They Cry out of order doesn't mean you need to lead others astray. You should suggest people read in the right order; WTC 1 -> WTC 2 -> WTC 3 -> WTC 4 -> WTC 5 and so on, once Ryukishi continues Ciconia.
      You cannot take back knowing. So by reading out of order, you fundamentally change the intended order of knowing. Ideally, you do not know anything until you are meant to know, and you stop and try to solve each mystery by itself.

    • @dollsncrafts
      @dollsncrafts  17 часов назад

      @@yayo3879 In general, I think people over-estimate how essential knowing about Higurashi is to understanding Umineko. I understand *why* people think that, because there are themes in common, but in my experience (knowing both people who read Higurashi first and people who read Umineko first) you aren't any more likely to solve the mystery of Umineko after reading Higurashi than you are without reading it. Umineko teaches you how to understand it's mystery entirely on its own. It doesn't rely on Higurashi to communicate it's ideas.
      The point is, people who are compelled by Higurashi should read Higurashi first. But for people who are mostly interested in Umineko, they don't have to read 8 volumes of Higurashi to even get to Umineko. I read Higurashi for the first time 10 years after reading Umineko, and it did not hamper my experience. I love them both, but they can each stand on their own.
