Nicholas Cage would have been such a good Dracula in this series!!!
Nick was still an A lister back then when this aired. Gone in 60 Seconds came out that same year, perhaps one of his greatest cinematic projects of the 2000's. Next to National Treasure of course which is perhaps the greatest film ever made!!!!
Rudolph Martin also played Vlad Tepes in The True Story of Dracula, could be how he got the role
Renfield gotta watch it.
Who wrote this?
Renfield was so much fun! I saw it twice in theaters & audiences were cracking up!
5 seasons and you guys just noticed Buffy's sister as if she's not been their the entire time.
There.
😂😂😂
yup, they even mentioned her several times whenever they talked about L.A. and her dad
She's the one who ate all the potato salad
Yeah like all the time, she was trying to hang out with Xander. Almost impossible to miss.
"She has a sister. Fine!"
"That's the least important thing"
loooool
Rana's Energy during Buffy Reactions is fantastic
Rana is the best
Rana repeatedly sneezing & struggling in the corner while everyone was chatting cracked me up!
4:11 "I'm going to have to get used to this place without you again, it gets so quiet"
I love that they put that there, to show that *it* hasn't happened yet.
Different POV though.
"You are strange and off putting". I love that line.
Same. One of my favorite lines from the show..
I think that is like the character summary of Xander lol
@@zenithquasar9623 HAHA Best comment!
I love how the clash of humor with classic horror. It's a favorite line of mine too!
It's good to explore the sister's storyline. She's always been in the background, since she was introduced in season 1 episode 13
Lol nice try
You didnt notice her in episode 4?
Yo it is wild that you guys just nodded away that cliffhanger like that. Hats off to Rana for being the only intelligent person on the couch today
Nah Spidey was with her 😂
To be fair, they are correct about older TV shows doing things like that. A character's relative just showing up out of nowhere to join the cast.
@@jp3813true! And they disappeared magically when they weren't needed anymore
4 freaking seasons of flipping tropes upside down and these people have still learned nothing. 😂😂😂😂
Right!? Honestly it's exhausting, I love them but damn
@@whedonobsessed Yea every time i watch, i feel like a slug in hell walking on fire.....and i keep doing it, its agony but i keep watching its exhausting but i keep commenting about it.
@@smeartyke I chalk it up to them being Young but they are all in their mid to late 30s so but it's all good this is season 5 so they are going to learn something regardless
Probably b/c not all tropes were flipped. They've had many moments where they were quick at guessing the twist such as the "Freaky Friday" w/ Buffy & Faith, but this isn't one of them.
How dare Chris say this show is just doing the “suddenly sibling” trope. By now you know that Buffy doesn’t just do tropes, it subverts them!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 can’t believe how hard y’all all gaslighting Rana
Last week's reaction was so much better because he wasn't there 😅
"Be back before dawn ..."
"You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun." Tara said this first to Buffy in Restless. Then Dracula repeats it here. Tara follows it up with the phrase, "be back before Dawn."
Always loved the part and line at the end of season 4. Man they end for a wild ride
During the last shared dream Buffy and Faith had, Faith mentioned, "Little sister's coming."
@N0-1_H3r3 back in the end of Season 3 Faith and Buffy making up the bed when they're in both in a coma.
I dunno why many people miss that Dracula-Tara quote, maybe because Dracula switches the order? Tara says "what's to come, what you are" and Dracula says "What you are, what's to come". 🤷♂
@@startingQB It's not end of season 3. That's the "miles to go, little miss muffet counting down from 730" sequence. The making the bed dream is on season 4 (This Year's Girl).
Loved how Rana looked so starstruck when Dracula showed up.
You guys are in for a WILD ride of a season! I can’t wait to see your reactions.they are sure to be GLORIOUS! 😈😈😈
Can't wait to watch their SE5 reactions in all its Glory.
Yes I can’t wait for that glorious introduction!!!!!!
Season Five is a Glorificus ride! 💗💞🧡💛💚💙💜💔
Finally some reactors familiar with Dracula and the lore around him.
For real! Like, this ep is totally a spoof and most reactors don't get it.
Thank you Rana, that was exactly my reaction. You don't just bring a sister out of nowhere and expect me to be ok with it.
I was especially excited when this episode aired because of who they chose to play Dracula. This was a callback to when SMG was on All My Children. The guy who plays Dracula played Anton, who was the love interest of her character, Kendall.
I love how this episode sets up threads for all the major story arcs in the series so effortlessly and without you really noticing. The Spike/Riley scene for example.
It's awesome the craziest thing in this episode isn't Buffy vs. Dracula.
It is for The Normies though.
7 people watching this and no one remembers Buffy's sister Dawn? She's been there from day one.
Its like they haven't even been paying attention
I hate when it happens
Poor dawnie.
Dawn was in the pilot and Season 1, she was just played by a different actress.
Dahlia West, Adam West's granddaughter.
@@overlookersI don't remember dawn until this episode they are watching. Damn monks took alter my memories too.😂😂😂😂
You guys need to rewatch the first scene of 4x15 - the Faith/Buffy dream.
Well, we did see one vampire prior to this who had glamour powers: Drusilla, who was able to use them against Kendra and Giles, among others.
Glamor, kinda more like psychic abilities. Glamor has multiple definitions like hiding your appearances with magic or hypnotism. Lol sorry for being specific.
She used them on Giles to make him see Jenny and she hypnotized Kendra before slitting her throat, so glamour was the right word to use.
Funny how everyone except Rana thinks they know what's going on with Dawn. And her reaction is pretty much what all our reactions were when it first aired.
Lol y’all low key gaslighting Rana.
AGAIN
can't wait til the next episode when they see its weird
Right? That's the job of the commenters! The Normies are taking the fun out of it by doing it first! Lol
And their doing it smart with the "they just did that in tv shows in the 90's"
They will all be eating crow soon and Rana will be vindicated.
Team Rana & Spidey. 😂
The actor that played Dracula(Rudolph Martin) was Sarah’s love interest on All My Children. He also played Dracula in Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula.
And he was Ari in NCIS.
So glad to see Buffy's sis again. Haven't seen her in a few seasons
I loved how Xander became Renfeld and how dejected he looked when he found out Giles had a threesome with Dracula's brides. It was a fun episode to open the season. This season is fun (mostly).
Ya'll get ready for one of the best seasons of the series!
One of the best seasons of ANY series!
Praise be Glory
The second best season
@@thedernboy But what about Ben? What the connection?
@@1TutorialBossfuck that. Erase it. Jesus, you can't control yourselves.
just to let you guys know these next 2 seasons are gonna throw your emotions completely , ive been watching buffy since like 99,00 and these seasons are 2 amazing ones
the older I get the more I respect seasons 5 6 and 7.
Xander and Dracula relationship is pure comedy, Bestfriend for life
If this episode happened in 2019, the end reveal would BREAK TWITTER.
The Phoebe/Ursula twin thing has a backstory. Mad About You had the character Ursula (played by Lisa Kudrow) that was a terrible waitress at a restaurant the characters would go to. When friends came out later, they decided to incorporate the character from Mad About You into the show.
Also Phoebe mentioned in season 1 episode 2 that she had a twin. She didn’t call her by name. But mentioned they didn’t get along because she was this high-powered, driven career type (a waitress).
It would be a completely different situation anyway, adult siblings can easily go ages without seeing eachother. This would literally have to explain why we haven’t seen Dawn in same house as Buffy before, or even mentioned.
It wasn't like 5 seasons in, they said you are an only child and then a sister shows up at the end of the same episode
Chris out here acting like this shit is totally normal in the context of the show.
This is hands down the best season of the show! Also they tried to get Freddy Prince Jr, for Dracula.
How do you guys not remember Dawn? You're 5 seasons in
You cant mention Ursula and Phoebe Buffay, without referencing Buffay the vampire Layer!!!
OMG, that's right! They _have to_ rewatch that
Hahaaa best episode of friends 😅 Joey and Ross are hilarious in that episode.
My favorite season!! The storylines, the new fighting style, buffy’s look. Perfection! 🖤🖤
There are veiled references to Buffy's sister, that are cryptic. For example in Restless: "There were several hints made regarding Dawn's appearance on the show in season 5, but the continued theme of a clock "counting down from 7-3-0" reappeared in Buffy's dream where she and Tara discussed how she should "be back before dawn"."
I feel like a lot of Buffy fans don’t really like this episode but I think it’s hilarious. And it’s a fun Buffy twist on the traditional Dracula lore. And it ties into the season 4 finale with the 1st slayer and Buffy’s origins and the darkness behind her powers. What’s not to like?
I don't get the hate either, I feel like this episodes have some of the funniest lines and is a campy fun way to introduce Dawn's character. Maybe it has more to do with the actor that plays Dracula?
I think it had more to do with them not being familiar with the lore, and they haven't watched the movies
@@angiej3259 I've seen a lot of complaints in the past about the sexualized components, as if the original Dracula novel wasn't just a stack of sexual metaphors to begin with...
I love this episode, but not so much what's coming with this particular sister story
@@angiej3259 I think you may have hit it. At least in my case, I rarely believe him as Dracula, and find some of his expessions laughable in the final fight with Buffy. Despite his extra powers, he doesn't register as the "big deal" Dracula should be - although, maybe part of the point is that, in the Buffyverse, there are such huge threats that Drucula's little more than another monster-of-the-week....
Finally Dawn gets some proper acknowledgement. Also this is a fun episode. In high school we watched this episode in English during our Dracula module. I was having the best fucking time watching everyone else in the class be very confused. It's got a decent amount of traditional Dracula lore and I guess, according to my teacher, was worthy of studying.
C'mon Riley! Giles has been folded by so many monsters he deserved more "chick pit" time.
It’s been like a whole season since he got his knob wet. Let him get a little time with the dracubabes
I mean they where gonna suck him try…
He had to get him out.
@@kaybaumann4989 Death by snu snu
33:06 he's the most famous because of Bram Stoker and as a human he notoriously impaled tens of thousands of people.
The ol' secret sister pull. Oh ye of little faith, you'd think they'd get that Buffy's meta-aware by this point.
Family matters had the sister that went up stairs and they never mentioned her again. Boy meets world Topanga has a sister that shows up one time, Shawn has siblings that they mention or only show once.
Season 5 is honestly the best season of Buffy, so good that I would’ve been happy and satisfied if it had been the series finale (although I’m happy as hell that they continued the show because season 6 is up there in my top three seasons). I’m so excited for your reactions
Let the gaslighting begin😂😂
"...unholy prince...bator!" One of my favourite jokes!
I'm here to represent the old folks. Phoebe's sister existed before Friends. She's Lisa Kudrow's character from Mad About You. Also, Team Rana - don't give in to the gaslighters!
"He's too handsome for Dracula."
Somebody hasn't seen the Frank Langella version...
This is one of my top 10 favorite episodes of the show. "You will never stop the dark master, bater." Xander is just hilarious .
At the time of this episode, there was a new Dracula movie being released and the actor playing Dracula here is the same actor from the movie! This episode was essentially meant as promo for the movie.
I love how buffys look is way more mature this season
Marketa is rocking that "Sandy at the end of Grease" look and it's 🔥
I love this season opener, but I love watching people react to it specially because of the cliffhanger. Such a wild and excellent season.
Suraj: "Title Redacted" "Don't look! Don't look! Don't look!"
Also Suraj: "The music is very old-school vampire."
Haaaaaa finally Dawn is here! plot thickens !!!!!
Buffy did not get home before Dawn
I came here just for their reaction to Dawn. I was not disappointed.
They said they wanted a cool vampire like Dracula, then they realized that Dracula was in the public domain so they just used Dracula
Thank you all for being on the couch for this series and enjoying it so much. Rana, Spidey, Marketa and Chris are so damn funny every episode. Rewatch scenes just to go left to right and back again to see and hear that part of team geting hysterical and having mini messy convos!
This is where the fun begins, y'all. This is my favorite season!
FUN? Girl ...
"No more chick pit for you, sir." Ahhh, the chick pit. My favorite part of the Gary Oldman Dracula movie growing up.
Listening to the ending discussion on this one was particularly entertaining lmao
"You are strange and off-putting" Finally someone calls out the Joss Weedon self insert character with something true to life.
Of course Phoebe's twin Ursula starred in the movie 'Buffay the Vampire Layer'.
Can’t wait to see your reactions for episodes 14 and 15 of this season, they’re so much fun!!!
Guys, Normies, I have a request. Please, please watch Buffy Season 5, Episode 7, and Angel Season 2, Episode 7, back to back in a single session and post the whole video on RUclips. I can’t tell you exactly why because… spoilers, but believe me when I say that there is a *very* tight connection between them and you will earn the undying gratitude of the entire Buffyverse fandom if you do this.
the old tv show argument making me mad lmao it's Buffy be serious!
It's the Cousin Oliver Trope, named for the Brady Bunch randomly adding a kid to the family and pretending he was always there in an effort to appeal to younger audiences later in the shows run.
Finally someone enjoys this episode as it's meant to be enjoyed! (After seeing Gary Oldman's Dracula.)
Rudolph Martin also played Dracula in another film as the main character before this
haha the ending always lets me know if reactors are super into the show or not
lol Rana's Reactions is what I'm here for, she's following the story when nobody else is. This cliffhanger had my wig ejected when I saw it and I'm living through Rana right now
YES! Seasons 5 and 6 are so gooooood! Cannot wait for this shenanigans.
OK couch, I know it's funny to laugh at some of the show's more dated aspects but pretending her little sister hasn't been on the show for four seasons is a little tacky. I assume the joke you're making is that Michelle Trachtenberg's acting was so bad it was like she wasn't even on the show. Also, the writing wasn't great with all the domestic disputes with Joyce acting as a counterpoint to Buffy's action life. I think they must have gotten her acting coach or something after her abysmal mid-season 4 peer pressure arc because you'll find she pops on screen a lot more and consequently they use her more prominently throughout season 5.
Couldn't agree more! Can't believe they don't remember when Angelus kidnapped Giles and Dawn, truly one of the most memorable Buffy episodes
And when faith threatened Dawn and Joyce to get at Buffy, it was terrifying. She really would do it too.
I always liked that Dawn was the only one who instantly hated Ted along with Buffy.
@@jjlonsdale5971 Yeah but it's easy to forget she was in that one because she ran off to stay with their dad... I think child labor laws really limited her presence in previous seasons until Trachtenberg hit the 14 year mark.
Oh, stop with this tired joke.
The actor playing Dracula played her boyfriend on All My Children so she got him this role I believe. She also won an Emmy for All My Children
This is true. SMG 👏🏽👏🏽
My favorite thing about this episode, is that the actor playing Dracula had just played Vlad the Impaler in a TV biopic, like, a week before.
I love Rana joking about "why have we never seen her sister" just because they finally start giving Dawn a chance to shine. I remember how mad Rana got when Dawn was trying to be like Faith, before she knew Faith was killing people.
*intentionally ends on big cliffhanger*
Normies: “oh it’s just an old TV trope. Of course she’s always had a sister”
The man who plays Dracula was a surprise guest star so this episode was a pretty big deal at the time. Rudolf Martin is a German actor who starred in a popular film released earlier that year called "The Dark Prince - The True Story of Dracula" where he portrays the real Dracula, Prince Vlad the Impaler. It's a cool movie that merges true history with legend. You guys should check it out. It really changes the way you see this episode.
Faith foreshadowed Dawn's arrival back in season 3. In Buffy and Faith's dream sequence, as Buffy is making the bed, Faith says "You have to hurry, Dawn is coming".
I actually love the dude who plays dracula rudolf martin. He played dracula in a made for tv movie that I really liked where he played Vlad the impaler. So hawt LOL
Dark Prince: The True Story of Dracula👍
OMG the Skids from Letterkenny! That was spot on 🤣
I remember the actor playing Dracula (Rudolf Martin) playing the original NCIS villain Ari Haswari. He's a great actor.
Yay season 5 here we goooo 🥳 Also Dracula reaction for spooky season? Uhm YES please 😮
Also also Faith making the bed with Buffy in the dream sequence saying something about getting the room ready for sister, that made me perk up when I heard it during your reaction cuz I knew Dawn was coming. That’s the best thing about watching this show again in a few years when you’re looking for something nostalgic and great to enjoy on a rainy day. You’ll pick up on so many foreshadowing lines.
I'm so excited. This is my favorite season of Buffy.
*Buffy's sister appears out of nowhere without explanation*
Normies: "Oh no big deal, old shows did this all the time"
Me: As an old person, I can tell you NO THEY DIDN'T lol
Sorry someone spoiled you, Suraj, and that would be spoilery for any of the team seeing that comment!
Seems he should know not to read comments without a mod...
The Dracula actor was also on All My Children, like Sarah Michelle Gellar, maybe even around the same time.
The clues for Dawn started in season 3 when Faith and Buffy were making the bed and she says "little miss muppet counting down from 7-3-0, which was a countdown to Dawn's arrival. Then in Season 4 when Faith came back while she was still in a coma Buffy and Faith were making a bed and Buffy says she has to go because there is so much to do, and Faith says "little sister coming I know." Then at the end of season 4 in the dream episode in Buffy's dream she tells Tara, Faith and I just made that bed and Tara asks "for who." Tara also tells her to be back before Dawn. As another side note in the same episode in Buffy's dream Tara says, "You think you know who you are and whats to come but you have no idea" or something like that but in the Dracula episode Dracula says the same exact thing to Buffy.
On the topic of sudden siblings, there's also Rolo Lamperouge.
It’s interesting that they forgot that there was a plot behind Rolo, but they assume it’s just a “tv thing”😂.
@@GabimaruSanoWell Rolo's introduction was surrounded by tons of other stuff to question that made him seem suspicious too.
Besides if Rolo is an example of their being more to a sudden sibling then Goten and Raditz can be evidence to the contrary.
Surprised it took you guys this long to acknowledge her sister
I have been waiting for this! I remember being the most confused I have ever been watching a tv show when I saw this the first time. Rana, I feel you girl!
*sidenote when this originally aired, the reason Giles's storyline was going back to England was in fact based on the actor really wanting to film less and go back to the UK for family.
This is *definitely* the best season of Buffy although for me Season 6 is my favorite. And if I recall correctly it was originally going to be the final season. A top tier season of television for sure, you guys are in for a great ride!
The best buffy season idc
YEEEEEES SEASON FIVE ❤❤❤ Get ready cause this one is a ride. Everytime I try ti get someone to watch Buffy is because I want everyone in the world to watch this season, but it only really works with all the others that came before as a build up
If you go back to the episode where faith and buffy have that coma state, Faith tells her to prepare for someones coming
On Happy Days Richie Cunningham’s older brother went upstairs and never came down. On Family Matters the youngest daughter disappeared also. It’s tv. It happens.
Is True Blood Chris' Lost?
