  • This is Part 1 How to Sculpt a Mint Beetle using Foam Clay. In this video I go over a bunch of tips and techniques I use when working with EVA Foam and Foam Clay. Foam clay can be a great material for organic sculpting and once it has cured is both durable and lightweight. Most of the sculpting process can easily be transferred to Cosplay and prop building as well.
    Part 2 focuses on painting the Beetle using Plaid FX paints and you can check that out here • Painting A Foam Clay B...

    HIGHLY recommend Foam Clay! Not just for cosplay. But I recently used my SKS Foam Clay to make a working horror movie prop.

    Great video, thanks for putting this on. I’m very impressed and inspired by this. Just a quick question. At around 4:30 you say you like to put one layer of foam clay then let it dry and add another layer and again letting it dry and add another layer. But before that you also said it takes 24 hours to dry. So are you doing this repeated drying and adding over three 24 hour periods? Thanks for the great videos, keep up the good work buddy!

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  5 месяцев назад +1

      It will start to skin over in about an hour it will then dry out more the longer you let it sit. So I will usually let certain layers dry for a couple of hours before I add more. If I’m sanding that’s when I’ll let it dry 24-48 hours

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  2 года назад +1

      I would say you'd be better off making it out of the foam vs the foam clay. Foam clay is great at creating non moveable transitions or complex curves but it will eventually become hard when the moisture wicks out and is not bendable at that point

  • @maddestmike5791
    @maddestmike5791 Год назад +1

    Is it really as light as they say it is after it's cured?

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  Год назад +1

      Yes, once the moisture wicks out the clay is extremely light

  • @christinacapoziello7267

    do u have to allow each layer of clay to dry before adding more?

    • @SKSProps
      @SKSProps  7 месяцев назад

      You don’t have to I just found it to be easier and you’ll be less likely to deform the clay you’ve already applied and sculpted
