- This is quite a long video in which I show you all sorts of things related to drawing and designing a book, with lots of bits of advice along the way.
I'm currently making my "How to Draw Ancient Greek Stuff Real Easy" book - almost there - and will be launching it on Kickstarter quite soon.
Watch as I design the character of Greek Good Pan and then work out how best to split him up into easy to draw stages. Then I clean up the artwork in Photoshop and paste the book page up in Adobe inDesign.
Finally I make a PDF of the work, which you can download for free on my Patreon page here / 16579452 You can also have a look at what I do on Patreon while you are there.
I mention Affinity's Photoshop competition, you can find them here:

Shoo Rayner is an award-winning illustrator and author of over 200 books for children.
The Shoo Rayner Drawing Channel won the 2011 RUclips NextUp award and is dedicated to teaching, promoting and inspiring drawing for everyone from beginners to experts who like to see how other people do what they do.
Shoo believes that everyone can draw but they lose confidence at school when they think they have to make their drawings look perfect or in a recognised classic style.
Drawing is just making marks on paper and you are allowed to draw anyway you like
Drawing is all about getting ideas out of you head and on to paper, it's about understanding how the world is put together and it's about having fun, with no stress, just drawing for fun.
Make sure you are subscribed for new drawings every Monday and Friday in you inbox and learn to draw better and with confidence with Shoo. ➡️ bit.ly/Sub2Shoo
Shooby-doodlers...love that, lol
Shoo, you are such a great artist and seem such a nice and positive person. I wish to meet a lot of people like you in the everyday life!
please keep us posted when you put it up on kickstarter! I love your style! You give me permission to be ok with my own work!
Thank you Shoo, I really enjoy watching your videos it is good to see someone who shows you how to just draw and encourage people to get on with doing and not talking about it.
Whilst looking at this video, I noticed your scanned image looks as good as the original painting. Although I am learning to use
watercolour, so it isn't the best, when I scan them the scanned image looks even worse! I tend to add a little bit of levels in Photoshop (CS 4) but the image looks horrid! Do you recommend particular scanner settings or adjustments?
Also, what paper do you use when painting for illustrations, do you use quite flat paper, does the tooth of the paper make much difference to scanned images
Thank you for any information.
Thank you for your reply, very useful. Many RUclips videos I have seen skip the actual scanning bit if they show it there is no mention of how the scanner is setup. If you could do a video, it would be very useful. Thank you in advance.
wonderful thank you!!
Good job!
Love!💋
Maybe Clip Studio might work better for you. A LOT less expensive and made just for illustrator just like yourself. I love it.
