This seems really surreal that you are making a video about... home. There's a few things that I wasn't aware of in this video too. Nice work over all.
The building you mentioned at 11:39 could be where the Pokémon league take place, while it is not a exact replica of something that looks like Wembley, two reasons why it could be, first Wembley is the largest stadium within the UK, it looks like an arc is going over it, the arc of Wembley, and a walk way is leading up to it, this again could be Wembley walkway.
It’s pronounced with the am so NottingHAM and BirmingHAM but the more cockney and strong British accents pronounce it UM, at least in my experience as someone from Greater London.
Manc here, we tend to pronounce it "BermingEm." I do cringe a bit at the American pronunciation, but Gaijin did good for the rest of the video so I can forgive a bit of minsponunciation.
Oh my arceus I’m so happy you did this video TwT I’ve been very excited to have another European based region and one with my especially favorite mythology is from. (I know that sentence or wording is weird but I was saying how my excitement for this game is mainly based behind the possibilities for the many mythos based pokemon that can be on the mythology and culture of the UK/Scotland) Very excited for this game!!!
Well me and other fans noted in the reveal trailer that in the area where the main protagonist's home is basically the area that's Scotland there's a large lake with some mysterious footprints possibly hinting at either a new legendary Pokémon based on the Loch Ness Monster or we get a shiny Lapras encounter in the same vein as the Red Garyados from Gen 2.
@@derrickhaggard Would be a nice indirect Call-back to Silver/Gold & Crystal (If it's a Shiny Lapras that is...) And if it's a Legendary then I wonder how that Legendary will be implemented... (wether you can only find it underwater (then again I don't recall seeing Underwater Gimmicks being displayed, so that's probably a no), or if you have to access a aquatic cave to approach it or heck maybe that Legendary is even relevant to the Story etc. etc.)
Gaijin this was excellent work! The thatch roofs COULD technically be anywhere from rural Scotland to Stratford-upon-Avon (where Shakespeare was born, near Birmingham) or any rural English village really (I grew up in a little British hamlet and still live in an albeit different one and there's a village close by to both that still has thatched roofs) and Manchester being the first big city makes sense for all your reasons, plus Manchester is like an hours drive from me and I've been a couple of times so will be interesting to explore Game Freaks version! A couple of people was saying this could be Sheffield but now you've said Manchester I agree. I also agree with the chalk figure being a culmination/representation of all of Britains chalk figures, not just the Cerne Abbas Giant. Great work! Love from Ashbourne, Derbyshire :)
Thanks for doing Manchester justice Gaijin! never thought I'd see the day where there would be a Pokémon equivalent! Will be more aware of my surroundings on my commute once Sword and Shield Launch to see what else they added! Even the train carriages have a similar colour scheme to Northern Rail (do not be fooled though they are not fast travel, more likely the evil team!)
Nintendo is taking down videos of people analyzing their trailer? I guess they don't want free advertising, then? Besides, this style of video clearly falls under fair use. I wonder if there will ever be anyone brave enough to take companies like Nintendo to court over it and finally get a little legal precedent for the whole fair use thing as applied to game commentary.
that rose looking stadium is Wembully stadium, the arch over it is a dead give away possibly the most famous football stadium in England. The screened area west of the fountain and south of Parliament is Piccadilly circus.
11:35 - It probably is a reference to the Tudor Rose in shape, since the closest to a "rose shaped stadium" I could find is apparently in Atlanta, GA - and that's in reference to how its roof opens. In game, it apparently serves the same purpose as Wembley Stadium. 12:10 - Not sure about the "snow-capped" part, but the town itself is apparently a reference to Bath, which is known for its Roman baths, apparently referenced in this artwork by the Roman architecture in the center and the Roman-style bath in the game.
I live in Manchester and I'd love to see how accurate to the aesthetic of the place Game Freak got it when it comes out. They've even got the colours of the trams right.
Here are some of my guesses for some of the inspirations places of some places you didn't mention: The town in the snowy area in the Northwest is most likely Bath in Somerset which houses the Roman Baths, the desert like area south of it could be based on the Roman City ruins in Wroxeter in Shropshire, the big castle I'm almost certain is Windsor Castle. In the southern part of the "London" area (from left to right) theres Piccadilly Circus, either Waterloo or King's Cross Station, and the stadium you brought up could actually be Wembley Stadium.
And the Starting town (if the region is mostly pulling from England), could be based one /or several of these places, Carlisle, Kendal, Ponteland, Wark on Tyne, Whittingham (Northumberland) or Wooler.
Gonna be honest, i cringed when you pronounced nottingham and birmingham as "notting-ham" and "birming-ham" instead of "notting-um" and "birming-um" its okay tho lmao bristish names are usually hard to pronounce unless you live in the uk
When we refer to Nottinghamshire people can pronounce it Notting-ham-shire or Notting-um-shire However Nottingham is usually pronounced Notting-am or Notting-um
Also that area you claimed was based off the brighton lighthouse, I believe to be the county of Portsmouth. In the UK Portsmouth is a Man-Made Harbour Town. It is also home to Spinnaker Tower, that looks over Gunwarf Quay, which is a literal quay made of entirely of cement and building materials which is what we see in the trailer
What an absolutely fascinating video man! I LOVE this kind of geographical- cultural stuff especially when it comes to Europe . I wish I had the time and the energy to learn more about it.
love the bag for life ref in the trailer inside the trainers house (the second where the Scottish female trainer was with the munchlax) and possibly there could be a ref somewhere to the fairy pools in Scotland (looking at that mystical magical forest part on the map but who knows)
There is so much to pull from from Celtic mythos alone, not going to say there's not a chance but it's far more likely that Grookey's line will be based off of something local
Feels so weird hearing my hometown "Manchester" pronounced with such a thick American accent. XD Good video though, thank you for doing your homework and giving us proper representation.
I'm impressed that you got the pronunciation of 'shire' right, but you were wrong with 'Southwark'. (Pronounced Suth-Ark) the O and W is silent as it is in a LOT of place names in England, I know it's weird and this is from someone who lives in London and in that very borough. :D Also, this is a game from Japan, of course they are not going to get all the geographic locations to be accurate, after all they thing that we have tree monkeys in our country. :D
The flower petal designed stadium is either a challenge area like the Battle Royale ring, or a new Pokemon Contest area. It doesn't have an elemental symbol on it, so I don't think it's a gym. The gym by the painted cave is the rock type gym, and the one behind it is fairy type. The one on the seaside is water type.
With the exception of my pronunciation of Trafalgar Square, this video is officially "Brit Approved"!
I'm from the UK so don't worry
Of course it’s Brit approved. It’s about British culture. Much love from Wales 🏴.

you're welcome, i watched several videos and read a few books and this was the best story that linked in
lol i left MASSIVE notes to make sure he didn't get it wrong
GG has done loads of cultures before but I agree it is great hearing about your own
2:29 "Protecc-chan"
Me : *He's one of us.*
Protag-chan not Protecc-chan
As a Brit I can say you did a great job on this video. I can't wait for this game to come out :D
👏🏻Thank👏🏻You👏🏻For not calling it Big Ben👏🏻
And man, you say Trafalgar weird 😂
lol he was under STRICT instructions not to call it Big Ben
Big Ben is the clock though
This seems really surreal that you are making a video about... home. There's a few things that I wasn't aware of in this video too. Nice work over all.
If there is no Bagpipe based Pokemon, I will be disappointed
If there isn't an anthropomorphized scone pokemon I will be disappointed. =3
@@scarredchild but how is it pronounced
I'd a bit dissapointed if there isn't a bobbie pokemon.
I'm holding a door open for Galarian Garbodor
Crossing my fingers for a Poppy Pokemon.
I love the team rocket and elite four jokes. Nice.
A fun rundown on your predictions from the map. Pretty excited for that alluded upcoming new series too.
3:48 I’ve never heard someone here pronounce it NottinghAm or BirminghAm, I’ve always heard NottinghUm and BirminghUm.
It’s pronounced with the am so NottingHAM and BirmingHAM but the more cockney and strong British accents pronounce it UM, at least in my experience as someone from Greater London.
@@samuelturner6076 Thanks for the explanation
Nottinghamshire resident here and we pronounce it Not-in-um and Ber-min-um.
Pastel Pomeranian Huh, I always hear Ber-minG-um
Manc here, we tend to pronounce it "BermingEm."
I do cringe a bit at the American pronunciation, but Gaijin did good for the rest of the video so I can forgive a bit of minsponunciation.
Oh my arceus I’m so happy you did this video TwT
I’ve been very excited to have another European based region and one with my especially favorite mythology is from.
(I know that sentence or wording is weird but I was saying how my excitement for this game is mainly based behind the possibilities for the many mythos based pokemon that can be on the mythology and culture of the UK/Scotland)
Very excited for this game!!!
If there's no reference of the 100 years war between Gallar and Kalos 0/10!
Mordo often donates amiibo to local gaming raffles. Nice to see your collective work. :)
lol thanks for the support
Wait a minute Scottland...
Loch Ness? a Possible Legendary? or Unique Pokémon?
Well me and other fans noted in the reveal trailer that in the area where the main protagonist's home is basically the area that's Scotland there's a large lake with some mysterious footprints possibly hinting at either a new legendary Pokémon based on the Loch Ness Monster or we get a shiny Lapras encounter in the same vein as the Red Garyados from Gen 2.
@@derrickhaggard
Would be a nice indirect Call-back to Silver/Gold & Crystal (If it's a Shiny Lapras that is...)
And if it's a Legendary then I wonder how that Legendary will be implemented...
(wether you can only find it underwater (then again I don't recall seeing Underwater Gimmicks being displayed, so that's probably a no), or if you have to access a aquatic cave to approach it or heck maybe that Legendary is even relevant to the Story etc. etc.)
Whenever I see you post a vid, I just get hyped because I love learning about culture!
You're saying it's not going to perform as well but if I see anything with you in it I'm click in it
Gaijin this was excellent work!
I know this is a werid request but can we get the Ninja from Lego Ninjago animated series Please? Oh and aragami from Aragami?
Actually, not Nintendo in this case, it'd be the Pokemon Company, who Nintendo handed all marketing and branding responsiblities to.
that rose looking stadium is Wembully stadium, the arch over it is a dead give away possibly the most famous football stadium in England. The screened area west of the fountain and south of Parliament is Piccadilly circus.
Who likes the Scottish Female Trainer memes?
Me.
I also.
Listening to an American accent say Manchester is so bizarre coming from Manchester
Mahn-chester
Man-chess-ter
It's how it's spelled.
I cant wait to see everything you have to say about the new game! Your videos on Pokemon sun and moon are some of my favorites of yours
So, all the Scottish female trainer memes may be canon?
Pretty much yeah.
I live in Manchester and I'd love to see how accurate to the aesthetic of the place Game Freak got it when it comes out. They've even got the colours of the trams right.
i hope theres a pokemon version of hogwarts somewhere in there.
I really hope so to
Here are some of my guesses for some of the inspirations places of some places you didn't mention: The town in the snowy area in the Northwest is most likely Bath in Somerset which houses the Roman Baths, the desert like area south of it could be based on the Roman City ruins in Wroxeter in Shropshire, the big castle I'm almost certain is Windsor Castle.
Nottin-hum and Bernin-num ;) as a Nottingham Nottinghamshire resident lol that's how we say it.
@Michael Beld Being British, I can't watch Disney's Robin Hood exactly for that reason. XD
When we refer to Nottinghamshire people can pronounce it
Notting-ham-shire or Notting-um-shire
However Nottingham is usually pronounced
Notting-am or Notting-um
@@Pomshka wait where bouts in Nottingham do you live
@@johnnyjoestar6478 Nearer than you think.... *Looms outside your window* O______O
If there isn't at least one Monty Python reference, I'm boycotting
Hey! That is not how you write Mr. Bean
@@paradoxzee6834 why not have both?
What an absolutely fascinating video man! I LOVE this kind of geographical- cultural stuff especially when it comes to Europe . I wish I had the time and the energy to learn more about it.
Are you aware of the scotish trainer meme?
we are, GG loves all the voice acted ones
Pretty sure that one building in London is supposed to be the wembley stadium because of the arch and it being an iconic football stadium
Plz do Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir Cultural reference and Which Ninja
And Gegege no kitaro 2018 episode 23 about 3 Yokai in the show
love the bag for life ref in the trailer inside the trainers house (the second where the Scottish female trainer was with the munchlax) and possibly there could be a ref somewhere to the fairy pools in Scotland (looking at that mystical magical forest part on the map but who knows)
Wait a moment if the galar region is Britain upside down then northerners are now southerners and southerners northerners.
But I don't want to be common.
08:41 I just noticed those diglett and man, it looks so cute!
I'm calling it: Grookey is based off of Son Wukong from Journey to the West.
That was infernape.
Nope it's gonna be Winston from Overwatch
Im thinking more of a musician like Ringo Star
There is so much to pull from from Celtic mythos alone, not going to say there's not a chance but it's far more likely that Grookey's line will be based off of something local
"Journey to the West Country"
As a huge mythology nerd and into Celtic folklore, I am sold on buying this game.
I WANT TO BATTLE THE QUEEN! She'd make Cynthia wet the bed!
Her ace is a level 100 Stoutland.
You fight her after the second gym.

Good video though, thank you for doing your homework and giving us proper representation.
Omg I can't wait to see what you have in store for the future!!! Great video; have fun in Japan! :D
I think the rose stadium may be a reference to the england rugby club logo
