Although the content hasn't been the same since the lockdown, the quality of the vlogs has not decreased. I've really enjoyed the creativity in the last few vlogs.

Tom, I would suggest putting 2x4 braces between the seams of your sheets of plywood. It will add quite a bit of structural integrity for a little bit of work.
I like how you see the gigantic spider and then start hanging your shoes in that same general area. Those spiders will 100% crawl into your shoes. Unless they have a nose i suppose.
Nice one, nice to see all the home stuff pop up. Inspiring stuff. I’m finishing up a little free standing setup myself, nice way to stay busy during these times :)
I see a pair of phantoms, Tom! I bought a pair right before quarantine. I got to use em once. Stoked you get to use em on your new climbing wall! Rad content man.
Nice work Tom! Also in the process of building a board -- making holds is proving to be the difficult part during quarantine, especially without a jigsaw and sander (disk or belt). Making do for now!
I've made avout 60 holds in a span of a month or so. I would love to share pictures of mine since I don't have any sanding tools either. I think they have came up real nice edit : posted them to imgur DIY wooden climbing holds (drill, hand saw, sandpaper and a file) imgur.com/gallery/ueNFK9Z
@@eelissallmen5432 They look pretty good! I'm not sure about the screw position on the 8 jugs to the front though. The leverage looks wrong. I'd add at least one screw as close as possible to the positive edge, without being exposed on the inside obviously.
Because you've made this wall outside I hope you've varnished it cause the passive moisture in the uk will completely destroy that wall in a few weeks if you dont
Not dying is awesome. Digging the influx of home wall boards, good job working with what you had. Enjoy! P.S. maybe that spider would have liked to send a proj or two on that wall and you just deprived him of access.
Bash you in da face hahahaha hit of 2020 Incredible you guys got the board up!!! Inspiring to make one, since lockdown over here has been extended and even for afterwards. Really psyched to make this happen. Thanks guys!
Hope your finger is better, I'm in the same boat drill through my finger right when I have time to train and do things... great vids from you guys keep it up
God I miss climbing so much. Hope my gym will be open again in like a month or so. Thanks for still providing us with content while we are stuck in isolation.
Damn, it would be nice to have a setup like this one. You should keep adding to it, maybe add some plywood on either side of the wall or at least some different volumes to work with.
Tom, you should check out the Climber Dad channel if you haven't already. His latest video is about attaching wooden holds, and he has loads of others about making them and general wall construction stuff.
I'm not going to say it's the greatest tragedy in all of this, but your cancelled LA trip is probably up there somewhere. It's awesome that we're getting content from Tom and Joe, but we want to know that everyone else is doing OK! Omar, have you come across the Vertical Thoughts channel? He's had interviews with Geek Climber and Jenn Sends in the past and I reckon that'd be the perfect format for you to tell us what's going through your head at the moment. An interview/chew-the-cud session would be brilliant. Also, I want an update on B's back.
I'm planning to build a climbing wall over the summer with my summer job payment money. I've already made about 60 different holds in a span of a month or so. They have came up real nice. I have no power tools exept for a drill so it is always hell of a sanding. Keen on the project. (i.imgur.com/I4OZUIH.jpg)
SO im 100% new to all of this but after watching Free Solo and finding this channel on RUclips all I want to do is climb. I was always good at it as a kid/teen climbing anything and everything that i could. Sadly I stopped in High School. Where do i start? Hangboard? I would love the feedback because I absolutely want to get into bouldering/climbing etc.
You picked a really bad time to get into climbing- walls shut and no crag access. If you can find the materials and space the best option is to build your own woody. Short of that a fingerboard (start very gently) and the Crimpd app will give you a head start when we can all get out again, if you're really motivated. Good luck
Loving the videos and giving me inspiration! What is the best plywood to use 18mm structural softwood plywood or 18mm hardwood plywood (doesn't say if its structural)
Did anybody else get a big dopamine hit when Annie got on the hangboard during the build montage? Brain: "Yes, climbing content! More please." Quarantine is getting weird guys.
I finished my backyard wall a week or so ago, but I didn't have the chance to get any plywood. I had to drill 100 double-sunk bolt holes into 6 cm thick boards... My hands still ache.
It's intentional coz Tom was making what's known as a play on words in English - QuarINtine coz we're all stuck INside... ya kno... Okay where's my 5 bucks Tom
Awesome video, I really enjoyed it! Just a few safety tips: Did you literally just screw the holds onto the wall without a nut or did you use drive nuts? Because relying just on the thread of the screws like that can be quite dangerous, as they can slip or break out of the wall with a lot of force on them (dynamic moves) and nothing to hold them back except the thread (especially because plywood is quite thin, so not all of the screws holding-ability is being used) Also: Using washers between the screws and the wood is really important so the force on the screw is distributed more evenly and the above is less likely to happen (and to keep the wooden holds from splitting. Source: my dad is a carpenter and called me out when I tried to do exactly that when I was building my woody 💩 Stay safe!
It really depends on the wood you use for the holds. I know that most if not all the wood Tom used was high quality hardwood, eg. beech. Some soft types of pine would obviously be unsuitable. You do have to be careful with screw placement in the hold, not too close to the edge and such. But so long as you use decent quality screws and ply (screws min 4.5 I'd say. Ply min 18mm structural.) and the screws go right through the ply there shouldn't be any problem. The cross grain structure of plywood actually makes it better than solid timber for screw holding. Source: I'm a joiner, have been climbing for 25 years, built my own wall several times, and I made the volumes in the vid 😉
So psyched to build a wall now, I was thinking of using t-nuts but maybe thinking it's not worth the time now. Noticed you haven't, any regrets? Is there much benefit to t-nuts other than adjustability?
i’d just like to say how appreciative we all are, you guys are keeping us sane during these melancholy times

Hope to meet all of you some day in the future 😁
As a framer, I was screaming at my screen watching this entire video lol. Glad to see you guys figure out how to get it all together though

Damn, you've out done yourselves with this video! Great vibes, interesting project, beautifully shot, and well edited! Just wonderful!
Seems Skill share really helped
DIY! I get the feeling that after lockdown loads of climbers will be crawling out of home made caves with a genuine appreciation for decent carpentry
2:51, just an aussie here, thinking about how cute that spider is. It'd make a great pet
That's brilliant. Thank you for continuing to post videos and keeping us all entertained. Stay safe
Name suggestions: The Stall Wall, Booth Board, Stallion Stand, Stump (S)trainer. Thanks for the vids, I always enjoy.
Tom, could I recommend sealing the plywood with something. As if the barn is damp the glue between laminations of standard ply will start to split.
Looks awesome guys! The amount of time and patience that would have taken is insane. Well done 👌
So glad you guys are still making great videos.

Tell me about it, I haven't been since February. I've been chipping away at concrete blocks in my shed and climbing on those
I feel like I really wasted my quarantine. 🤣 You really nailed that one Tom. Thanks.
you could play a game where you number the holds and try to send the board with random numbers. great work on the wall btw :-)

i was soooo expecting the timelapse section to have the spider walk over

that spider on the top left scared the shit out of me, thanks :)
Hey Tom, noticed you're in the new phantoms! how do you like them? I currently climb in shamans and was looking for a more bouldering oriented shoe.
I noticed this also and was going to ask the same question. Hopefully Tom can share some insight for both of us. Be well!

Pretty sure you’re gonna come out of lockdown stronger with all the hangboarding and that 45 degree woody! Just don’t hurt a pulley
