Mac OS X Welcome Videos

- Old versions of Mac OS X used to play welcome videos during the installation process.
These helped set the stage for the new operating system.
Cheetah, Puma and Jaguar shared a video that highlighted the new Aqua interface. Panther's featured the bright blue background with nice, crisp, white text. Tiger brought Spotlight, and as such, the welcome message was highlighted by a moving light. Leopard and Snow Leopard shared a darker clip that is reminiscent of the initial Time Machine interface.

1:30 The moment you realized the MacBook is YOURS. Priceless.
Im trying to get snow leopard on my 2007 imac aluminum
Because tiger for me is obsolete now.
For me it was the moment I finally installed 10.6.3 on my old dell latitude
Flashbacks. The excitement when I got my first Macintosh in 2010. It was a Late-2009 iMac 21.5’’
@@carrot7143 hackintoshes, nice
I loved the one for Snow Leopard. I remember watching so many un boxing videos before I got my first Mac and the video was my favorite part. When I finally got it and saw the video in person it was wonderful. Such a small thing, but added to the whole experience.
I saw the Leopard intro when I set up my MacBook Pro for the first time; so cool and special. It's a bummer they don't do that anymore, but I guess it's gone the way of skeuomorphism.
Jorge Danny Rodriguez I as well had seen the welcome video countless times in all the unboxing videos I watched. When I could finally afford a Mac and went out to buy my very first iMac, it was one of the first models to ship with Mac OS X Lion preinstalled. So I kept on waiting and waiting, but the welcome video sadly never appeared...
Wouter Van Dorsselaer that is really sad. :(
Jorge Danny Rodriguez it's true my first iMac was in 2007 with OS X leopard and the video and music just made the experience of getting a Mac that much better. I miss those days
Edito Rodriguez I miss them too I got it when I got my mid 2006 iMac on the snow leopard intro then when I got my MacBook mid 2010 there was no intro I was super sad out that and i bought some old PowerPCs which also have the intro and the intros were really interesting I loved the intro I hate the fact they got rid of them if only the newer intros would be so good again no steace jobs=no intros :( when Steve jobs died the intros died with him :(
The Snow Leopard intro will forever be the thing that plays in my head every time I get a new computer.... So sad it's gone :(
My mid 2010 MBP is and will always be my favourite computer I have ever owned. (I feel strangely sentimental right now.)
My favourite is Mac OS X Tiger
Songs:
10.0-10.2: “Sofa Rockers” by Sofa Surfers
10.3: “Eple” by Röyksopp
10.4: “Bytecry” by We'evil
10.5-10.6: “Exodus Honey” by Honeycut
Thank you 😁👌🏻
Why 😭😂😭😭😂 you wrote all the songs
Thanks... now I can hear some historic audio
@@dhanifathi2008 What is 10.10-10.11
@@talentlesszephyr_yt Oh, they are macOS versions, 10.10 is macOS Yosemite and 10.11 is macOS El Capitan. They don't have welcome songs...
If you consider how genius these videos were... In the time they were welcoming you, there's a pretty nice chance the system was getting stuff ready, so that by their end the welcome screen would pop up and you just finish setting up your account. Truly genius
Im really sad this and the bong are gone
At least the Chime isn't permanently gone and can still be enabled manually via a Terminal command.
Daniël's Tech & Music Channel That's how you start to lose your mind
the mac startup bong hasn't gone away (at least on sierra), but it doesn't play every time i boot up
Daniël's Tech & Music Channel Spongebob:MR KRABS, THE FRONT DOOR IS MISSING.
H010 So Do it using a terminal command
I was genuinely upset that when I got my Mac on El Capitan it didn't have one of these, just silence, it really took away from the Mac experience.
ProjectOP I loved snow leopard I’m using Mavericks though it’s a bummer Lion don’t have a welcome screen I was disappointed
I feel bad for you :(
Who else misses the songs?
O Khan me
meeeeeeeeeeeee
i still listen to em to this day,but by the actually artist
Me
Me, especially the one from macOS 10.5/10.6 Leopard/Snow Leopard intro
Man I will miss leopards intro, I watched it so much from all the different Hackintosh installations I attempted when modding its kernel and kexts back in high school. Then after 3 weeks straight of trying to get os x to work properly I did it, it was like I just gave birth. I’ll never forget that video
What you gave birth!😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😆😆
lmaooo
Leopard and Snow Leopard are by FAR the best. I remember turning on my first Mac and being greeted by it. I was blown away; such a great first impression.
These videos really made you feel like you had something special.
Not joking the Leopard intro IMHO was the best. Just had an overall jolly feeling, plus it also pumps you up for experiencing the next iteration. Personally I feel like Leopard catered more to bringing in the home market than professionals back in the PowerPC era.
1:29 takes me back to 2010 when I got my first iMac (Late 2009 model, 21.5 inch that was very BIG for me)
My first macbook air (2012) had this and nostalgic sound (when i was 23)
guys, that animation is cool, I was vibing like the cat Meme at that. Bring Back that pls
The Panther theme gives me massive nostalgia. I remember it thinking out of the speakers on my iMac G5 on Christmas Day 2014
Simon Boak I really didn't like the panther theme I think the tiger theme was awesome and the leopard and snow leopard is the best theme and very last time they used themes
2014? wtf
@@buschw00kie Oh yeah, I meant 2004! I accidentally a decade.
I believe Mac OS 9 also had an intro, but:
1. It only showed up on the initial installation, not when the user installs the OS themselves from the install disc.
2. The video was tailored for the Mac model that the user had.
Mac OS 8 have an intro too but it's only for demo cd
Thank you for compiling these! A new install was really something special
Wow installing a new mac with Royksopp's Eple playing in the background, that would be so amazing. This is the kind of passionate touch I'm missing from the 'new' Apple.
Eple started playing and i was jelly of anyone who bought a mac in that era
Michiel Haisma it just made the whole experience of owning Mac so much better because it felt like something special and it's those little touches that made you passionate about owing a Mac. I miss those days with the vidios
So true! Now they're like "meh, let's just make money and cut all the fuss, we kinda don't care anymore".
Yeah the new apple has kind of threw attention to detail in the trash when It comes to these things.
The welcome videos stopped with Lion which was Steve Jobs era dumbass
My first Mac had this (2010) - a real shame it's gone.
Ugh, they need to bring these back! Apple really has no sense of fun anymore. Leopard/Snow Leopard is the best!
I know I miss that video that played when I bought my first mac in 2009. Apple needs to bring these back.
they have! Starting with the new iMac, there is a little animation now
@@notnotjake they’ve started to do this with a lot of newer iPhones/iPads/Macs, albeit with “Hello” (in the handwritten style from the original Macintosh) instead of “Welcome”, and without music.
I used to work in a computer repair shop. The Leopard/Snow Leopard reinstalls never got old.
My first Mac shipped with Snow Leopard. I just hummed and tapped the intro tune verbatim without hearing it in 10 years. I'm beaming because of the memories right now, ha. At least they ended the series with the best one. ❤
Panther tiger and snow leopard are the best welcome vids
They should really bring this back. This gave mac os a wow effect when I was a kid.
So many memories attached to most of these for me. Thanks for doing this!
Leonard and Snow Leopard really brings back memories of when me and my dad would make Hackintosh’s
Tiger was my first one... Man that brought back memories. I've never gone back to PC.
Same here. I had a 2006 iMac with Tiger. It smoked my previous PC and I never looked back.
1:30 for nostalgia
I remember using snow leopard
I still remember walking into the Apple store to buy the snow leopard disk in 2009. Now updates are automatic. I think I had to pay $20 for that disk.
Leopard/Snow Leopard were bangers. Always loved that intro. Made setting up your new computer feel fancy
I love Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6's first boot up!
00:58 That specific music was so epic... so many memories with that song. Used as Windows startup sound for ~10 years.
I remember the installation for leopard/snow leopard - I was a little boy and I saw my dad play it on his mac
Love that apple licenced Eple (literally translates to "Apple" from norwegian) by Røyksopp for the Panther intro. I remember installing that on an iMac G4.
1:30 good times when i got my plastic macbook in 2009
Oh man, i remember when i bought my first Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6), I loved my Macbook Pro so much that i got rid of my Win 7 pc that i build back then...
So amazing🤗 Thanks, Jobs!
I still have the intro music for leopard as my iPhone ring tone - MacBuddy_MxEdit_Rev1a
Mashnut can i get the link?
Do you know what the intro video location is?
@@32BitLink /System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant.app/Contents/Resources/TransitionSection.bundle/Contents/Resources
Same here
One of the aspects that i Love so much about Old OS X versions , i would really love to play them on real hardware but unfortunately legacy Apple computers are really rare here in morocco :) Thanks for the fantastic video :D
Although this is old af I really wish they continued this sort of thing. It’s just the sort of thing that made apple the unique one out of all pc manufacturers. That and the bong
I love these videos.
I loved these, I remember my first Mac in 2006, the tiger one . . .
The Leopard's Welcome video is the best!!
My favourite is Snow Leopard as it brings nostalgia to me when i got my first macbook!
Man the 10.6 brings back memories. The last time I’ve seen that was when I unboxed my MacBook Pro
Love how the languages are in different order every time
Despite never owning a Mac, my personal favourite is the video for Cheetah, Puma and Jaguar. It reminds me of a clear sky.
EDIT: The music is relaxing AF in my opinion.
Ahh, thank you for the feels :) How many times did I want to stab out my ears, now it's like a sweet, sweet melody....
Nothing beats the leopard welcome video.
Change my mind
R.I.P Mac OS Welcome Videos 1997-2011
Wow, found another old comment.
@LiliMarco1 SWV I know.
This is the best quality one on youtube
I was in middle school (August of 2010) when my Grandmother went and bought an iMac. I can still remember the smell when I took it out of the box. And then the startup video... It’s one of those memories I will always cherish because I was just mind blown! I thought it was a super computer! It was back when I was still amazed and in awe at a piece of technology. Now with something new coming out all the time, that spark is gone.
God the smell!
Holy heck I love these!!
I really miss apple having these little touches in there products they got them in the packaging but why not the software
For me; the one I loved most was the Leopard/Snow Leopard video.... man; the memories of setting up my MacBook then... I had a 2009 white MacBook for awhile and I always enjoyed setting up everything cause of that intro video... the sound was fun and I would hum and sing along to it during the first parts of it... BRING THESE BACK APPLE!!??!!!!!!
I loved the 10.4 installation video as a 7 year old on my dads 1999 g4 tower
I remember the Leopard install disk had a holographic cover art. Beautiful nebula/galaxy..
When I got my first MacBook Pro in Early 2011, I saw this exact welcome screen for Snow Leopard.
1:30 lovely music and intro, and that's coming from a pc user who never owned a Mac, tbh it's a shame that Apple stopped doing these videos, they should bring them back.
10.3 had my favorite music, and 10.4 looked the coolest
Mac OS X Snow Leopard makes me feel so nostalgic.
I love the Mac OS 10.4 Tiger's music
Finally the 10.0-2 Video in more than 5fps!
(Most uploads here are using some weird source video where it's about 5fps)
Imagine if these played on every start-up
That would be epic
The Mac would welcome you every time you open it.
@@aabbdduu how I wish that was a real feature
That last one still gives me chills lol
1:57 do you see the apple logo?
That is the X
You are right
just bought the MacBook Air with the M1 chip today. I full well know it has no intro video, that's why I'm here. My first Mac was the late 2007 black MacBook with Leopard. It was just a nice touch when you first boot the computer
Some additional info:
The intro video for 10.0 was actually every so slightly different than 10.1 and 10.2, since at the end it actually displays "We'll get you up and running in no time" before getting into the setup screen. This sentence actually changes depending on what language you're using. Not sure why they dropped it later on.
Wish they’d come back with these.
Yeppers, I miss 'em as well.
I upgraded a lab at my school to Leopard and heard that intro video 20 times!
I have fond memories of the jaguar intro
Apple should really bring these back.
This is so sad for me... The first and only time I got to experience this was when I managed to turn my first laptop into a fully working Snow Leopard hackintosh... it felt very rewarding especially after lots of trials and errors... then, a few years later, when I finally bought my Mac which came with Mavericks, it felt very strange when I turned it on for the first time...
Tiger very cool intro
Wish they do this again :)
Something that pretty peculiar is that the leopard and snow leopard's video file sizes differ by a lot. The leopard one is about twice as big
panther, leopard and snow leopard arghh nostalgia
I remember using Snow Leopard in elementary school in 2009.
Only OGs knew these sweet tunes..
Tiger and snow leopard is my favorites
They must bring back these videos!
They kinda did with iOS 15 & 16
R.I.P Welcome Videos
2001-2009
i want the snow leopard intro as my ringtone lol
asking for a 2015 macbook pro for christmas so I can relive this beautiful show
Yeah the last one was the best. I wonder what the welcome screen for Big Sur would have been with their modern animation style.
i have a macbook A1181 with core duo (32bit), snow leopard is a beautiful system, and intro perfect!
i have a macbook A1181 aswell with a core 2 duo on 10.6
The snow leopard is my fav and I will miss it forever my 2008 MacBook is my fav cuz it had leopard
i remember my parents getting a macbook and my dad showed me the video and as a toddler i was dancing to it lol
If you look closely on the background of the Snow/Leopard intro, the nebula at the top kinda resembles the Apple logo.
At least they ended the welcome videos with a bang, because DAMN, LEOPARD.
I think you missed that one Welcome Intro of a Developer Preview 3 of Panther. It used the song "Ocean Air". Unfortunately, there is no high quality version that is uploaded here, so you might have to see it for yourself.
this is sooooo coooool
they're literally a trillion dollar company, idk why they don't add them anymore - it added SO MUCH to the user experience
i can't describe the pure unfiltered joy and "cool factor" rush that it gave to turn on a mac for the very first time and have the video kick in, it was nothing short of awesome - and one of the biggest differences between windows user experience vs mac user experience
2:04 the music is now a drum solo
Frutiger Aero Aesthetic!!
Snow Leopard’s is literally my favorite.
Just sounds so cool
Could be my outro song someday lol
But need to give major credits to the original too y’know
Panther's soundtrack seemed to define Mac OS X's geeky subculture through the 2000s.
I love this welcome video its so legit like in space 1:30
macOS stopped feeling as special when they removed the welcome video, and then the startup chime.
One of those is back though...
The one from Leopard is the best
