Chris has to be one of the best road testers out there. Great review but I with keep throwing soft panniers on my MT10 and continue to tour on that as no MT10 Tracer looks to be happening.
I feel like Chris is in a league of his own in terms of Motorcycle Journalists. There is just something about the way he makes bikes I’m not even personally interested in sound exciting! Let alone the ones I’m actually considering purchasing. Always worth a watch to hear his thoughts 😁
This review is very well done; informative by design and exciting by default. The only feature I’d appreciate is simultaneously scrolling raw data/specifications.
@@THEREALZENFORCE On the road today yes. I've ridden all generations of all three. I love the SX but it's small. The XR is excellent with a nutcase engine but BMW have still not sorted out the vibes. Even if they did I'd still have the 9 GT which ticks all the boxes. Just my view of course but I'd challenge anyone to three 500 mile days on each of those bikes and not go for the 9 GT as the best bike.
I've had my tracer 900gt 3 years now and use it all year round,I love that you get so much with it such as heated grips luggage etc.will go for the new one next year, semi active suspension will be great 👍
While that is true, he lives in the UK. They’re generally good with wet since it rains so often. It they treated wet roads like most people do they’d hardly ever get to ride lol
@@TheAsheybabe89 Yeah, England could remain independent, because no foreign army wanted to stay there for too long: bad weather, horrible food and the women... 😁
Agreed although they are using it now at the GT plus . But they should use it all across models (mt 09-tracer 9 - mt 10 e.t.c. ) that screen is very nice , just as a good as BMW TFT and they already build it so it cant be that expensive to continue making it.
Been riding bikes 50 years and had the yammy tracer 900 gt for 2 years now , best bike I’ve ever owned 😊🤓, wish I could afford the new one , had r1 s , fire blades etc and I’ve come to the conclusion, who needs all that power except on the track . Good review of bike , but it’s a sports tourer , and I wouldn’t ride at that pace , you’d miss most of scenery etc 🤓😊
I’ve had mine 10 days, the best thing you can do with that screen is take it off!! It really is that bad, even at a slow 40 mph (in any position) speeds the wind noise & turbulence is horrendous… After my first 100 mile ride it came off & stayed off! 👍🏻 Waiting for a decent aftermarket to become available. Other than that one little easily fixed niggle, it really is an amazing bike for the money.. Very much looking forward to some (UK) Touring on her this year.
Love what Yamaha is doing with these bikes, finally adding all the new tech with quick shifters, cornering ABS, etc. But whoever was in charge of designing their dashboards needs fired. This bike has the goofy split screen setup, which looks too small and hard to read. And the MT-09 has a nice looking one, but again, it's too damn small compared to the other TFT's from the likes of Triumph, BMW, and Ducati. Yamaha really messed that part of these bikes up.
i really loved this bike 😻.. wow.. its beautiful... but i really hate that instrument cluster... very hard to read.. and i think thats the only demerit on this bike ❤️🔥
Yeh that dash is weird how they split it, I don't like it at first glance. It's not bad but I think it feels a bit under for a sports tourer (rather SDGT) and a bit over for a commuter tourer (rather get the versys LT). I'm sure it will fit better for others but it just misses it for me. Cheers
Great review as always with some typical level riding (riding as if it's dry to normal people! 😂) Bike does seem a brilliant all round package. No mention of price though? I'll head off to Google that me thinks... Oh, and that dash is very much "Johnny 5" 😎
Re the dash, it seems overly complicated. Yamaha should heed the adage: "less is more" ~ Mies van der Rohe (well, actually Robert Browning, but let's not get overly complicated 😂).
I know it. Rewind a few years and everyone was raging over the new blingy bright colorful TFT mini-laptops slathered around the bikes. I usually approach stuff in a more skeptical/cautious way and I noticed right off that legibility was reduced, layout got more complex, prices went up. I bet over time these displays don't take the heat, sun, dirt, rain, hail, cold as well as the good ol' electronic LCD/stepper motor tach displays did.
@@applecorp Triumph, Ducati, and Aprilia are doing instrument displays and UI's the best in the industry. KTM is pretty good too. Funny though, these displays are showing what used to be analogue-style graphics, such like tachometers and other gauges. Nothing beats a needle rotating around a row of numbers for instantaneous gathering of data. I don't need to hunt around a complicated messy screen to find the information I want at a quick glance. But more than anything, it's the sun glare and light emission from the panels that's the worst problem. Yamaha is using a negative background and positive data, instead of positive background with negative data. Nothing worse than dark background with barely legible digits or characters behind a bright sunlit day with a layer of dust on the surface.
So it's a GT right? So why didn't they put the Shaft drive off the Super Tenere and make it the perfect sports tourer at half the price of a BMW. Your right about the dash - too much crammed into 2 separate screens. But despite all that, it's still a bloody good bike you can have a lot of fun on.
Because the base of the bike is the MT 09, and that doesn't have shaft. It's really not that simple to go from a chain trans engine to a shaft driven one since you'd have to re-design 3/4 of the bike considering the changes in geometry, power delivery, stretch, etc etc
I NEED the Tracer in my life. I have always wanted a Yamaha, the T9 (sounds like a Terminator, no?) might well be the first one I'll get (though the MT hooligans are calling me as well...).
1.87cm here (about 6.1ft). Would the position be fine as for the knee angle? Considering that this version is a bit lower than the previous one. Thanks.
Some of its wales not sure all of it is but pretty sure the bit riding the road next to the estuary is aberdovey one of my stomping grounds great roads over there other parts were saying lake land to me so may have been shot over a number of days , Sure chris will fill us in
Exactly. First gen Tracer 900 sounded like a jet plane throttling up at only 40 mph from all the dirty air racket. Sure hope they did some wind tunnel work on this model.
@@exothermal.sprocket Michael Neeves said his ears were ringing 2 days after his ride and that it was enough for him not to buy the bike because no one had been able to design a decent screen for the old bike.
Why don’t Yamaha make an MT10 Tracer???? BMW have done it with the S1000XR and they sell like hotcakes and Yamaha have done it with the 07 and 09 Tracer but no 10, I don’t understand????
Too many goofs on this bike for my taste. The clown face dashboard, the burnt out running light look, and the heavier weight over the MT-09 without a power upgrade. And to really kill it, in the MCN review they pointed out that the windscreen is awful for tall riders. I'll take the KTM 1290 SAS or Multistrada V4S over the Tracer 9. They're more money, but probably worth it if you want to do some long distance riding
Indeed. I test rode the Tracer 9 and screen makes awful buffeting on my helmet, my naked bike is better. I'm 173cm tall. Gonna try to get a test ride on the V4S and SAS
Maybe the KTM at a push, which is still probably £5k more by the time you've got the panniers and heated grips added on, but the V4S is a massive difference in price when you're talking nearly £10k more than the T9 GT. You're getting a lot of bike here for £12k, even with the negative aspects.
The screen on high setting is fine. I'm 6ft have seat on low setting. Screen on low setting will incur buffeting but in town on hot day handy. Done 3500 miles now including Scotland and can strongly recommend bike. It will make you smile..!
Just like there are many issues with a Citron C3 vs a BMW M5 Different prices, not everyone can just go almost triple the price because "well it did not feel as nice" Like duh?
Yep I made this decision in 2018. Test rode fj09 which felt cheap everywhere, suspension seat screen dash transmission. Bought a used 1190 adventure s and it’s the only bike I’ve owned this long still. It does everything street and dirt in comfort. 150hp😎
