  • Technics SL 5 part 6 - The Finalling.
Your SL-5 is finishing before the end of the record? This might be worth a look.
In this video I perform the check and adjustment of the servo gain to try and get the player to play to the end of the record. It's a fiddly process, but with a dash of persistence, and a splash of gin, it can be done.
After confirming the adjustment, I screwed the case and all the covers back on and played a few records. From the lead in to the lead out, it played them perfectly. An excellent result.
    Update 31/3:
After a week or so of playing records I can report that it has been working well.

Nice work! Those servo adjustments are rarely addressed.

Yeah, not much info about it...well I couldn't find much. Hopefully this helps someone out.

tnxs for this video. Had some troubles with mine SL5. It stopped to early. With the potentio meter on the top of the print i could fix it. It took a while but it works perfect now.

Great to hear! I really like Technics gear, a bit of TLC and they just keep going.

I know it's a long shot but I have Sl-5 and the tone arm won't drop down on singles but will on LP do you have any clue what it is?

I don't have any suggestions off the top of my head. I'm looking at getting to the next one in a week or two. I'll have a dig through the service manual and see if I can find anything that might explain whats going on. I have another tapedeck ahead in the queue which is all done bar calibration testing, so I am keen to knock that over first, just been a bit stretched for time last couple of months.

I hope I aint gotta mess with these bits when I've fitted new belt.

If you don't touch this side, then maybe not. If it all works after fitting the new belt, then leave it be. But if it doesn't play the whole record...
I've mentioned before I have another one of these that needs servicing, and that will happen late Dec/Jan sometime. I might make a more thorough set of videos about it.

I'm already mad, so watching this video has no effect on me. :)
Anyway i have to listen to my singing potatoes in a padded cell now.
That looked like a right pain in the rump!, touchy touchy circuits. :-(
I think we should jump into a tardis and go back to the pillock that designed the deck electronics.
A good slapping with a large wet fish should fix him for sure. :-D

I'm positive we're all mad. The dangerous ones are those that don't know it. :&
Yeah, it was touchy alright! I'm not sure how they came up with that adjustment mechanism, I guess it must have solved the problem in a 'clever' way, and reduced part count. Get the trout...
Anyway, I'm happy this is done and I can mark it as 'solved'.
