    Ah I’ve fallen down the petevsplants hole. It’s nice to see his enthusiasm for plants and glad to know I’m not the only one struggling with plant addiction. Anyways, I think the mamei is a crawler, but I’ve forced my McDowell to grow vertical so I don’t think that’s the issue. But I do think it might stunt leaf growth. Anywho excited to see the progress on these props in various environments❤

      Cheers, Gerda. The good thing (sort of) is that the same issue happens to most plants where the lower leaves yellow off, top ones shrink as they come out and get deformed, etc. and it's usually root rot associated I think. So hopefully you can apply these lessons to other indoor plants too.

    I have a mamei, and mine is thriving. It does attract spider mites though. One observation is that mamei’s I believe are crawling philodendron so they don’t want to be crawling up a moss pole. I don’t know about the silver cloud but the mamei for sure is a crawler.

    Ive had similar issues with some of my plants leaving some of the old soil on and potting it in a chunky mix, then leaves start yellowing and curling like that. I used to be afraid of damaging the roots or shocking the plant by getting all the soil off, but on my most recent plant gets I just removed all the old soil right away and the are doing fine, so im going to do that from now on.

    My silver cloud from bunnings has struggled heaps too. My mix was too dense. I ended up with a stump and I repotted it in a chunkier aroid mix and now it activated 3 growth points and I have a couple of leaves. When it gets bigger I'll let it crawl and see if it'll grow nicely. It's supposed to be a crawler rather than a climber. So maybe growing horizontally would help? Otherwise, bin this goes 😂

    They are crawling plants BUT, you can train them to climb with no issues. So it's definitely not that.
    Mine is doing the same thing, was beautiful and green/silver but now the leaves are yellowing so I'm going to dig her up and see if there's something going on with the roots.
    If I can't see anything then I too might end up chopping her as there's a new leaf about to unfurl. I don't want to risk the new leaf yellowing. I honestly wonder if they need more food than other plants.

    This type of video is interesting, we can all learn how to save plants.
    I received a few weeks ago a Half moon Monstera Albo and , because it was too cold, the stem and leaves melted. I could only save a tiny bit of the stem and 2 baby leaves. To my surprise the roots were good and no cold damage affected them.
    She activated 2 growth points, not the highest one as i expected, but the lower ones. Luckily they seem to be situated at the border between green and white , so i hope they will be half moon too.
    This is my first time propagating a half moon plant, so it will be interesting to see what happends . I am still sad that this happended but since i got my refund, i can take this as a learning experience 😅

    The Philodendron Burl Marx have those wonky growth points It is just the way they grow. Suzettes Garden has several Mamei vidoes where she revived the Mamei I sent to her that I was having trouble with. She ended up chopping tte plant and propped it in Spag. Later setting the spag root ball on top of a pot of soil so the roots eventually grew down into the pot. Months later all the chopped props are doing really well.

    • @mhzplantingaroids
      @mhzplantingaroids 2 года назад

      @@petevsplants7516 Actually now that you mentioned it, I think yours is a Mamei. Silver Clouds have almost 50% silver on the leaves. While the Mamei has much lesser. And at 7:20 there is a shoot growing out of the sheath instead of directly a new leaf(not sure if its the same for the rest of your leaves). My Mamei Silver Cloud throws out a leaf directly from the sheath. Again, from my latest video, the first plant, is the Silver Cloud. Can check it out if you'd like.
      These are just based on the shoots and also silver on the leaves ya. There's also a difference in the wavy things on the petioles which is hard to see on yours.
      Now that you have many cuttings, might as well let one or two grow how it wants without poling to see what it really is.
