- The Warmth of the Sun- Beach Boys- Cover by Kayla Williams
I'm very fond of this BB's tune. Although when I was around 6 yrs old I would always skip past it to hear fun fun fun or I get around. I though this song was sooo slow and boring. Then when I was 14 I cried listening to it. I thought it was sooo beautiful and sad and I didn't remember why I hated so much in those younger years. It's still hits me every time I listen to it.
This was a more challenging song vocally as well. It is fairly high in the 'Aaah' parts and so static in the verses. Holding the note and not going flat was the goal there. I think it turned out decent and I hope you enjoy it.
***** To commemorate the upcoming Brian Wilson concert which I'll be attending on June 25, I am doing a Beach Boys cover each week until the show. I'm also going to run a little contest and the winner will choose the final song for me to record. I will also email the winner an mp3 version of their song!
Here is what you need to do:
Post a suggestion for the Beach Boys song you want me to cover in the comments of this video and upcoming videos. You can also enter by posting on my Facebook page, or tweeting it to me. You can make one suggestion per video release. You can suggest the same song more than once to increase your chances of it being randomly picked. I will have 5 videos (including this one) before the concert and I will record and release a video of the winning song after the concert. Good luck! ***
He actually did hear a couple of my covers and because of it I met him summer of 2011, it was amazing, he said I had a great voice :) Thanks!
A CLASSIC BEATIFULLY PERFORMED......
I've heard so many rendition of this Beach Boy classic but this one was my favorite.
You sing it straight without over embellishing the melody. Good job my dear!
Thank you :)
Spot on! Bravo! Thanks Miss Kayla!
Thank you for keeping me alive
Kayla,
Great, great cover! Your voice is warm and rich and a pure lovely tone.
I wish you all the best in your music endeavors.
Beautiful
This song always gave me chills. And you chilled me again... In a good way. Thanks for a job well done.
I am 66 years old and grew up in San Diego listening to the Beach Boys. I remember each time I heard this song I got choked up. Still do.
I like listening to covers and I look around RUclips for them. You do a very nice job on this tune. Brian was 19 when he wrote it and it was intended for young listeners (although the story goes that he wrote it after hearing of President Kennedy's assassination.) You have that youthful timbre to your voice.
Hope you don't mind if I add this to my iPod.
So lovely Kayla. I'm sorry Brian Wilson is not around to hear you do justice to his music. He was the greatest I hope you go from strength to strength you have such a feel for this.Bravo
"The Warmth Of The Sun" is my all time favorite song!
After listening to you over a dozen times, you can sing this the way you do because you have been there, it happen to you. 2:27 and on to the end WOW!!!!!!!
I think that's your best work. So moving, almost as much as the original. Great job Kayla!!!
Great expressive version
That was so beautiful.
Another one of my favorite Beach Boys songs. Now it's another of my favorite Kayla songs. You are awesome!!!
Very good job, bravo!!!!
TWoTS is my all time favorite Brian Wilson gem, and it's hard (imho) to match the beauty of it. If there's something that can be as close as the original, this is it. I've spent many nights listening to this song over and over, so much so that I feel like I know it like the back of my hand, and your version does great honor to it. Thank you for letting me listen to it.
Lovely X
Really nice I love this
Thanks!
@looniespoons Thanks, ya Good Timin' is a great song as well!
Good job!
One of my fav BB songs and you nailed it! Wonderful singing! WOW!
Looking forward to your version of God Only Knows! Thanks!
John
Brilliant, just how it should be well done.
Wow! Wow!excellent!!!!
Thanks :)
You must make a CD. You must go professional. I know. I'm a music producer!
I'm about to cry :D
WELL DONE!!
Thanks Stuart!
@@kaylawilliamsmusic Would u by any chance b able to break down the backing vocals?
oh myyy i am a fan you can sing
Very nice, thank you for posting. ;-)
Love you more tjan ahythimg
Nice! Unless your mixer is really, really good I hear no 'Auto Tune'. :-)
Personally who ever invented Auto Tune needs to be drawn and quartered! lol
Good job! I wish more of the latter Gen X'ers and all of Gen Y'ers would get into this REAL music.
Better than the Beach Boys version
That's way too big a compliment 🙏
Really Nice - You sound a bit like Michael Jackson.
Brian Wilson would definitely approve. Nicely done. :)
FamousTonyC lmao no he wouldn't
OOOOHHH YES! Kayla , you nailed this classic! I cried when I first heard this in 1963. I'm almost in tears now.
It's almost like Brian wrote these songs for you Wow the best covers ever!
I'm just crying, my heart is beating so fast and I can hardly breath. I think I'm experiencing Stendhal Syndrome to such beauty. What a music, what harmonies, what a voice, what a sense of rythm and pitch. Kayla, you are ART. Thank you for existing.
OK my request would be either Don't Worry Baby or In My Room I was gonna suggest Caroline No but that might seem a bit awkward. Which ever of these you feel comfortable with or suited to I know just from what I've heard you can knock em out of the park.
I don't think I ever skipped through this one, but I know what you mean. Some songs don't hit you until later in life, and then you wonder how you ever ignored them. This really is a difficult song to sing, but you did your usual magnificent job. I hope you enjoy the concert. I would love for you to record "Please Let Me Wonder."
This song was written for Kayla.
I had got a little bit of dust in my eye earlier in the day and I was trying to flush it out and then I heard this beautiful rendition of The Beach Boys classic and you helped me flush out that dust ..thank you!♥
just lookad at her other song then came hear, WOW just she hit it right straight away i was stunned, well kayla whens the album coming out all the best x
Wow! I thought that the FIRST cover you did (the first one I heard, that is) of the Beach Boys, "Darlin" was my favorite. THIS one gives that thought a true "run for the money"! Beautiful. Never stop singing!
I think that I may have found "the voice" for our Picture-Yourself-Rememberedcom vision! We're bringing it to market by year's end, 2019! Look for our team to contact you, please!
This young woman sings this song better than anyone has ever sung it!
You need to hear Willie Nelson sing this then.
Very Beautiful, I just watched Brian Wilson do a segment on Steven Colbert last night, he sang God Only Knows at 77 yrs. old.
I downloaded Windham Hill recording of a combo Warmth of the Sun/Surfer girl and then I found your (this) recording. Amazing (that is your amazing) , to me these songs seem straight from Heaven.
@ChrisCartaya Sorry, I try to respond to as many comments as I can but I don't always get them all. :S
Hi Kayla. I really love Warmth of the Sun. I was just trawling nostalgically for real old Beatles greats (If I fell), the late great Gerry Rafferty, Joe Cocker's 'Now that the magic has gone' etc and tried desperately to find Carl Wilson's 'Seems so long ago' but can you believe this masterpiece is nowhere to be found. It occurred to me that you would do this song the justice it deserves. Fancy a go? I'm sure your legion of fans would appreciate it as well as I.
Great version, possibly better than the Beach Boys (it's that good). For those who don't know, this was written by Brian and cousin Mike on November 22 (or early 23) in Sacramento, California after the Beach Boys had performed earlier that evening (yes, the day that JF Kennedy was assassinated. Sidebar: I recently stayed at the same hotel that the Beach Boys would stay at during 60s at their many Sacramento Civic Auditorium gigs, which is near the old Governors Mansion. (a little trivia for a
Hi Kayla! I'd like to suggest that you do a cover of Brian Wilson's song "The Spirit Of Rock And Roll". I don't think it was ever officially released by the Beach Boys but it's an upbeat catchy song with an infectious hook. I think it would fit your pop style nicely and could be a big hit for you. I suggest that you give it a bit of a raw edge with a lot of up-tempo energy - so that people will want to get up and dance when they hear it -:)
I THINK I'M IN LOVE ❣️
kayla Your version of this very difficult song to sing, is absolutely beautiful.
The best version -other than the original- I have ever heard. Although as an agent I work with almost exclusively country bands, I've booked some Beach Boys Tribute acts, none of which will even try to do the song. You pick a challenge, you pick a challenge.

I do not have words to tell you how much I admire you.
I think you must have a wonderful recording equipment besides an enormous talent.
Can you tell me something about your recording equipment?
well done. beautiful
I think Brian is still alive, but Carl passed away in 98, unless something happened recently I'm not aware of. Regardless though, you are way correct in Kayla William's feel in covering this.
Yeah, I found that out later, after a posting a message to Kayla I had reply from another youtuber with the info.I'm glad I got it wrong though. Kayla does them proud for sure.;-)
Kayla, this is it! This song means so much to me, I remember the first time I ever heard this many many years ago and my reaction was WOW, can this really be the same people who sing surf stuff! Also this was the only song my father ever admitted to liking by the Beach Boys. I had it played at his funeral. Means a lot to me. You nailed it girl, perfect. Thank you.
Dave
Still want you to sing Heaven.
Sorry for my repetitive post -I'm new at posting on RUclips and still getting the hang of it. I wasn't sure my post went through the first time. Good Luck!
Splendid. As you say, a deceptively hard song to sing *properly* - which you did. Great stuff.
Here's my suggestion - "All This Is That", or maybe "Cuddle Up".
i clicked on this not knowing what to expect, as this has always been one of my beach boys favorite songs....and...it's been over for a whole minute and i am still in awe of how professionally you performed and recorded this...the background harmony is so well balanced with the lead vocal...did you mix this yourself?...just an amazing rendition of this incredible song!
Hi, That's news I'm pleased to hear, glad I got that wrong, although sorry to hear about Carl. The Beach Boys and their dreamy harmonies. Timeless.
Amazing rendition Kayla..!! great chords in this song...!!! thanks a lot for your very sincere efforts in providing continuity for such amazing music to 21st century and beyond......
Brian composed this song not long after the JFK assassination. It conveys so much emotion. Great job Kayla
Brian had the melody and on the late morning early afternoon that Brian and Mike got up and were getting ready to work on this song together, they got the news of JFK's assassination. Mike Love has said that this song has a lot to do with that but the only thing he could come up with were lyrics about unrequited love as he didn't want to write directly about the assassination. The song is already so beautiful it brings tears to one's eyes but with that added information it's hard for me to listen to it without crying. Such an amazing song making us "feel" and absolutely stellar performance by Kayla here!
Just beautiful Kayla and I enjoyed reading your story about falling in love with the song. All I Wanna Do awaits your magic touch ;-)
One of Brian's best songs and vocals and you do it proud. Love the emotion in your lead vocal and background harmonies! Would love to hear you do Only With You from Holland.
Kayla, Please PLEASE tell me how you did the background vocals & instrumentation. You & the whole thing is beautiful!
Outstanding, Brilliant you have the voice of an angel beautiful young lady. I think Brian would be knocked out fantastic keep at it dear.
Thanks Brian :)
Another great cover of one of my favorite songs. I vote for In My Room next. But any thing you sing is great.
listened to many of your bb songs this is so nice lovely version once again and your voice so beautiful.
...BW... was absolutely correct...God Bless America...🇺🇸
Nice one Kayla. Love to hear your version of California from the Holland album.
Good job. Yes I too request God Only Knows from you. How about Good Timin too?
I record all the vocals and music for all my videos ;)
Thanks :)
The end of this has to sound pretty much like heaven. Amazing.
Kayla, Just found this, how amazing! This is my all time favorite Beach Boys/Brian Wilson song. Brian Wilson co wrote and did the vocals. The vocals on this song by Brian are just un matched by anyone at that time. Who sang like that? He was only 20 at the time I think. Many have done this song from Vince Gill at Brian's tribute ( which was incredible, along with Surfs up.) One of my favorite female vocalists that did this was Rumor a couple of years ago now. With you being a fan, check both out if you haven't. I must say again, your arrangements and vocal are simple awesome. Tackling the range here and bringing the emotion to life (It is a very heartfelt and emotional song,) is really hard. You not only pulled it off, I loved it. Knowing Brian and being a Beach Boy fan for over 50 years plus, I'm very critical of their "covers". You nailed it!!
Thanks Rick!! I agree, Brian's falsetto was so special and he sang so effortlessly in that range. I know all too well how much the BB community takes the music seriously so I appreciate that you enjoy my take! I certainly enjoy every cover I work on! :)
@ganamede Thanks so much! That's so nice :D
Absolutely beautiful version ❤️👍
That's probably my favorite Beach Boys song and you did it beautifully! Love it! You are a very talented vocalist, arranger, instrumentalist!, and engineer! Bravo!
Thanks so much, this was many years ago and I was still learning but happy it's standing the test of time :)
Congratulations! This is very very good! My best wishes!
This is a great version and a lovely vocal, but listen again to Brian's; his vocal sounds effortless and super smooth yet has great power..
"Kiss Me, Baby" would be a fun one for you to cover. You're gonna love the Brian Wilson concert! I've never seen him but I've gone the last 4 years in a row to see the Beach Boys (Mike Love/Bruce Johnston & company) perform. Gives ya the chills!
@OriginalGrasshopper Thanks so much :)
B.W. wrote this the day JFK was killed.
great cover really enjoyed it greetings from dublin ireland
Wow this blew me away. You're amazing and sing with so much soul ..like you wrote it.By the way People Brian Wilson ,Al Jardine and Mike Love ...all original members of the Beach Boys ,are alive and toured recently.Carl and Dennis Wilson passed away a while ago now.
I loved this song on the original album...which were both highly underrated. (Beatlemania). Incredible song done very well.
Thank you! It is one of the beauties ❤️
Very nicely done Kayla !!! Did you also sing all your harmony tracks ? I have been a lifelong Beach Boys fan....you nailed this !!!
Thanks and yes I record music and all vocals 😁
Love the cover and the information text. I rejected the Beach Boys altogether when my dad first introduced me to them as a kid, I thought music had to sound like the Beatles or Cream to be worthwhile. Embarrassing. It's better to be honest.
There is nothing better than The Beatles..Their song are mindblowingly sophisticated when you study their structure whilst still sounding simple and accessible. It's a feat that only a few artiste have achieved with a handful of songs however the Beatles wrote over a hundred stunning songs in only about 7 yrs. When compared to the output of other artiste the statistics speak for themselves. I would only put Brian Wilson in the same league as The Beatles and really no one else.
@TheWebbedHand Thanks so much! ;)
Sweetheart, I don't understand why you don't have a cd available. If you don't have a manager then you need one. Your talent deserves to be heard.
I have my own original album available here: www.cdbaby.com/cd/kaylawilliams3
Did you record the backing vocals? Beautiful!!
beautiful song and beautiful girl.
@musicalglenn69 Thank you :)
The warmth of your voice!
The warmth of your voice!
@OnlajnGramofon Thanks :D
@superleomusic Thanks! :D
Fabulous voice. I know this was made 10 years ago. Hope you are still singing!
I am always singing and have LOTS of other Beach Boys cover up since then :)
Would love to hear "Full Sail", good job!
