Sometimes being ok is very good. I feel so lucky that I'm contented with my life. Its not what I thought it would be and maybe not what others would want, but I've brought myself to calm, to quiet and as I've said contentment.
Your last words reminded me so much of my mum, she would say what our blessings were, roof over our head, food in the cupboard, a nice warm fire, or sun shining etc etc and she would end it with “and Gods in his Heaven and alls right with the world”, it’s lovely to hear you saying that you are ok, you have crossed the bridge Katherine. There will be times when you will go back in your mind to when it was “ok” before, but you will then think, no it wasn’t ok for a long time, but we carry on plodding don’t we, and you will have times when the grief of loss will overwhelm you, but you are in an enviable position, with only yourself to please now, enjoy it. You have made your home so cozy and you have your fur babies and real grown up babies that can visit, Gods in his Heaven and all right with the World.

What a beautiful garden! I especially loved the stunning tree on the little island. I do have to confess.. reading the signage at the beginning, I read Pork Gardens and spent a few minutes giggling at myself 😄 The little glasshouse reminded me of my Auntie Anne who lived in Hampshire in a divine cottage with a conservatory porch in which she grew lemon scented plants that I believe might have been pelargoniums. The soft, almost fuzzy leaves and lemon scent zap me straight back to those happy holidays. Ok is a good place to be and I can see a lightness in your face that says its a place from which you can smile and grow. Thank you for sharing your home with us; it feels like popping round to a friend for tea and a chat!

If you find a minute check your garden video at the moment where you are sitting on the bench trying to turn the view from yourself to the lake....are they pretty blue butterflies I spotted fluttering across the screen near the greenery? I have a small table and my tablecloth is one of my quilts too. A dear friend gifted me a circular rag rug years ago and over time the raggy bits faded, so I have removed the rag tags, washed the crocheted base and am currently re-ragging (not sure what to call it) the rug. Things like this make my home my haven. Your home is your haven too. Nite nite xx

Thank you Kathryn for another lovely video, getting out and about in some interesting places and the little peeks of the beautiful cosy home you are creating. I too have a small square kitchen table which is invaluable to me, where birthday teas and Christmas dinners happen, usually with 4 or 5 of us ! I don't have a desk, so my sewing or knitting sits on the table, sometimes the sewing machine, I have felted on, printed on it, put the baking out to cool on it, and best of all I have my morning cuppa sat at it. Pleased to hear you are doing okay ♥

I loved those gardens. So beautiful. I had a pelargonium that you could rub onto your skin to keep mosquitos away. It worked well. We do have rhododendruns here but they don't go mad like they do in England. I remember how wild they were in the Lake district when I visited in the early 90s. Your tiny house is gorgeous. My father use to tease me that the only space I had left, for art works, was the ceiling . Feeling OK is good as is talking to yourself. As a retired psychotherapist, I totally recommend it. Lovely Witterings Kathryn, thank you for sharing your new cosy home with your wonderful textiles - it was lovely to see Stourhead in Autumn glory- we went there for the day from East Kent years ago and my dad and I fed a duck then suddenly All the birds of the lake flew - swam - skied across the lake in such a flurry it was scary and funny at the same time also embarrassing as such a noise - it was over 25 years ago but every time I see the iconic view I see that memory ! I think you're amazing what you have been through and in such a short time made a wonderful home and still creating and sharing - it was lovely to hear you feel ok too, and to notice it from outside yourself (I know what you mean) ! The books look amazing I have old books from my mum and I don't want to just give away, I look forward to the book ideas. Thank you

I do love these videos - all the wonderful places near to you, no doubt breathing new life into you as they do me as I watch, and inspiring me to seek out similar places near me. I finished the audiobook of Braiding Sweetgrass last week, and enjoyed it so much (Robin's voice is wonderful) that I had to buy a copy as well, just to read the words and save certain passages in my commonplace book. It's such a beautifully lyrical, braided work of breath-taking wisdom. And it's always a treat to see your home and what you have done with it - home-making is a passion of mine (just as well as I have moved a lot!) and you are as inspiring in how you create your home and evolve in it as you are in everything you do. Lovely to see the radiance of contentment in your face, and well done 🙂
For more storage, jars etc, you could put a shelf above your kitchen window. That what I’m hoping to do when we move from this big 4 bed house to a wee 2 bed cottage when my husband retires at the end of the year

I have the same small old version of the needlework encyclopedia, but in English (a gift from my mom), a real treasure. So good to hear that you are feeling ok. I am always quite happy when life is just ‘rippling along’ (after a few bumps in the road) and I feel ok. To be able to enjoy and appreciate the ‘small’ things in life and to have creativity in it is a precious gift. I think you could live in a closet and still make is feel cosy and welcoming Kathryn! Braiding Sweetgrass is lovely, as are all her books. I was especially drawn to the huge beeches on your walk. Many of the woods around me are full of beech, left to themselves because they are not considered valuable lumber. I just love their twisty, leathery trunks. The American Beech holds onto its leaves throughout the winter and they glow golden even on the dullest of days. I've been thinking on how to pay tribute to these winter beeches with thread and fabric.
That was a lovely escape from my day-to-day chores. Thank you Kathryn! I am so happy to hear you are "OK". Aren't we all? Thank you for the Stourhead trip. I was in Shropshire during at the end of October and visited several NT places…had forgotten it was half-term, so also sought out the quieter areas. When my children were younger we often visited the parks of NT places, so lovely to have all that space.
Oh I do love a kitchen table, and how lovely to use the quilt as a tablecloth. I’ve seen one person make an ironing board cover out of a quilt - if you have to iron how lovely must it be to have such a delightful cover…

If you find a minute check your garden video at the moment where you are sitting on the bench trying to turn the view from yourself to the lake....are they pretty blue butterflies I spotted fluttering across the screen near the greenery? I have a small table and my tablecloth is one of my quilts too. A dear friend gifted me a circular rag rug years ago and over time the raggy bits faded, so I have removed the rag tags, washed the crocheted base and am currently re-ragging (not sure what to call it) the rug. Things like this make my home my haven. Your home is your haven too. Nite nite xx

I too have a small square kitchen table which is invaluable to me, where birthday teas and Christmas dinners happen, usually with 4 or 5 of us ! I don't have a desk, so my sewing or knitting sits on the table, sometimes the sewing machine, I have felted on, printed on it, put the baking out to cool on it, and best of all I have my morning cuppa sat at it. Pleased to hear you are doing okay ♥

I loved those gardens. So beautiful. I had a pelargonium that you could rub onto your skin to keep mosquitos away. It worked well. We do have rhododendruns here but they don't go mad like they do in England. I remember how wild they were in the Lake district when I visited in the early 90s. Your tiny house is gorgeous. My father use to tease me that the only space I had left, for art works, was the ceiling . Feeling OK is good as is talking to yourself. As a retired psychotherapist, I totally recommend it. Lovely Witterings Kathryn, thank you for sharing your new cosy home with your wonderful textiles - it was lovely to see Stourhead in Autumn glory- we went there for the day from East Kent years ago and my dad and I fed a duck then suddenly All the birds of the lake flew - swam - skied across the lake in such a flurry it was scary and funny at the same time also embarrassing as such a noise - it was over 25 years ago but every time I see the iconic view I see that memory !
I think you're amazing what you have been through and in such a short time made a wonderful home and still creating and sharing - it was lovely to hear you feel ok too, and to notice it from outside yourself (I know what you mean) ! I do love these videos - all the wonderful places near to you, no doubt breathing new life into you as they do me as I watch, and inspiring me to seek out similar places near me. I finished the audiobook of Braiding Sweetgrass last week, and enjoyed it so much (Robin's voice is wonderful) that I had to buy a copy as well, just to read the words and save certain passages in my commonplace book. It's such a beautifully lyrical, braided work of breath-taking wisdom.
And it's always a treat to see your home and what you have done with it - home-making is a passion of mine (just as well as I have moved a lot!) and you are as inspiring in how you create your home and evolve in it as you are in everything you do.
Lovely to see the radiance of contentment in your face, and well done 🙂

Braiding Sweetgrass is lovely, as are all her books. I was especially drawn to the huge beeches on your walk. Many of the woods around me are full of beech, left to themselves because they are not considered valuable lumber. I just love their twisty, leathery trunks. The American Beech holds onto its leaves throughout the winter and they glow golden even on the dullest of days. I've been thinking on how to pay tribute to these winter beeches with thread and fabric.
That was a lovely escape from my day-to-day chores. Thank you Kathryn! I am so happy to hear you are "OK". Aren't we all? In preparation to the upcoming new year, I am looking at how 2024 has been so far, and I must say, I am so looking forward to 2025. Thank you for the Stourhead trip. I was in Shropshire during at the end of October and visited several NT places…had forgotten it was half-term, so also sought out the quieter areas. When my children were younger we often visited the parks of NT places, so lovely to have all that space.
Oh I do love a kitchen table, and how lovely to use the quilt as a tablecloth. I’ve seen one person make an ironing board cover out of a quilt - if you have to iron how lovely must it be to have such a delightful cover…
That might inspire me to iron more, or maybe not 😁❤️
