Early 70's R&B and funk were at the peak of music talent. There were so many artists and bands that experimented and came up with the perfect recipes. I loved rock music but the funky bands were undeniable in their talent and passion, loved listening to them just as much.
If you’re already familiar with Use Me , then this stripped down version is waaay cool. If not , then play the studio version - the up tempo and the groove are infectiously funky

Listen to everything he’s done, and learn everything about him. Guaranteed, he’ll be one if your heroes. No doubt. Never been a more genuine human. Started his career at 30, dipped at 45 after 3 Grammys, after having tired of the industry bs. No joke. Live at Carnegie Hall is gorgeous first cut to last.
There will NEVER be anybody like this man right here! He is one of my all time favorites and I have a very hard time when someone covers a Bill Withers song. It just can't be done right!
Bassist just sitting back like its a hot sunday afternoon and the drummer is the coolest, smiliest dude ever. They're all just "yeah I'm in Bill Withers' band"
Bill was and always will be old school funk. Jammed with him during the 70's and now. Please listen and watch the original video EWF "Let's grove tonight." You will shake your shoulders from beginning to end.
Bill Withers could ALWAYS be heard on the radio when I was growing up in the 70s. I remember my sister who is 18 years older than myself drive around in the car with my other sister and I and hearing him with the windows rolled down in the car in the summer. Priceless memories. And you are right, these artists HAD to put their heart and soul into WHATEVER genre of music they played. They didn't have anywhere near the opportunity to get noticed and, especially a record contract. 🎵🎶🎼🎤🎹🎸
I'm so much older now, with degenerative disc disease. Lots of operations, yet music like this music like mr. Bill s still makes me move around. What a blessing. Mrs Melissa Ward here. He was a true genius. And you are right, ,passionate musicians just do something good to you.
One of my all time slow jam groove songs. Danced to this with me and my husband on a cruise ship with no one else even dancing.......We only needed Bill!!! Oh Baby, Baby Baby, when you use me I can't get enough!!!! Sang it Bill!!!!
My song. This is my fave. Bill Withers song ever. So funky and as fresh today as it was in the seventies. Stands the test of time. RIP to a wonderful musician.
Jamal the song by Bill Withers called "Lovely Day" will always reminded me of the Movie "Roll Bounce" the soundtrack to that Movie was Kick Ass, those were songs of my Youth
Absolutely love bill withers, In my opinion one of the greatest singer songwriters of all time, I love how everytime you see him you can tell he's experienced the same or very similar to the things he wrote songs about, you can see it in his facial expressions
Oh my gosh. Jamel. The first time I heard this song, in 1971-72,I had to pull off the road to just sit and focus on it. I was enthralled!!! The syncopated rhythms and rawness of it.....nothing compares. So glad you appreciate it,too!!
Great on you Jamel to cover this cat. One of the greatest. "Use me", "Just the two of us", "Lovely Day'. One of the coolest dogs around. You will be missed Bill!. RIP..
Love these live, raw performances. No Auto-tune needed. Just stick a mic in front of him and stand back! His pitch is perfect and his performance sends chills down your spine. R.I.P. Bill. Peace from SF
Hey, I was blasting this outa my car window, driving through Sutton Coldfield town centre, only a few weeks back. Educating the masses! I'll dig out my old 'Still Bill' album, and give it a spin later. RIP Bill.
I think *BILL WITHERS* was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame within the past two years. So sad to lose him and Kenny Rogers so close together. Two men I would have loved to sing with live. Very inspirational voices. ;-)
I'm go glad you chose Use Me to review. My personal favorite for his rawness, funky bassline, and the sections where it's just his voice and the snare. ❤
If you haven't done it yet, do Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown". Love Bill Withers' music so much. Such a loss when he stopped, even more now that he's gone.
Thank you brother. This live version is THE ABSOLUTE BEST LIVE BASS performance I can recall. This whole instrumental hits so much different than the regular version
such a unique voice, instantly recognizable as Bill. i hate all the legends are leaving us! i admire him so greatly as a human...he never compromised his music to make a buck!

When asked why he stopped recording new music Bill said “I didn’t have anything else to say”.
Ahhh, that makes me sad. It would have been great to hear more from him! RIP, Mr. Withers!
@@dogsareprecious4842To me its great...He was finished...He only did his best.
He went out with a bang and on top!
That's a respectable point of view.
Paul McCartney's new music just doesn't meassure up to his younger stuff, so I'd see him as a polar opposite.
Thats beautiful man
My favorite Bill Withers’ song! This groove is so good!! Love his song “Grandma’s Hands” too!!
Those are good ones. Jamal will like those too.
I agree! heart felt!!
Grandma's Hands is so good.
Best groove EVER!!!!!!
Kissing My Love is one of my absolute faves ... check it out ... I know I'm a day late & a dolla short ... ✊😎✊

Bill Withers was a genius, simple chords that he injected with so much heart and soul with that magnificent voice. Thank you Jamel.

A lot of people covered this song but this is still the best R.I.P. Mr.Withers
Have you heard the Liza Minelli version? Incredible & unexpected :-)
Mick Jagger's version off of Wandering Spirit is a great version
I Remember listening to him and the Reverend Al Green growing up. Also the Spinners Games people play and the Stylistics you make me feel brand new.
Al Green is great too

Just the Two of Us - Grover Washington Jr with Bill on vocals
I was about to ask if he was involved with this song! Thanks.
I love this song too!
R.I.P Bill Withers a true soul brother.
Another song that kinda ties in with his passing is, "Grandma's Hands" Check it when you can!
chrisv966 and part of it inspiring some of the same rhythm in “No Diggity”
grandma's hands is probably as close as it gets to a song to play at a funeral for a loved person that meant so much, like bill! rip
This...truly love this. Bill was the coolest of all. This song is tremendous......that voice...wow.!!
Bill Withers was in a class of his own...When he sang it started somewhere in his soul and passed through his lips. He was the best of the best!
This one is a solid favorite for me. "Lovely Day" is one where he just sustains the notes so long, but this one is dirty good soul for sure. Thanks!
Lou Rawls "Lady Love", "You'll never find another love like mine","Natural Man"
As a kid.. my dad played "lady love" to DEAF!!! Great Memories. :)
Lou Rawls had absolutely the smoothest voice I ever heard ever. Going from the 50's on.
Love is a hurting thing.
As a 49 year old, looking back at these old performances just brings joy to my heart. This dude was the stuff.
I met James Gadson some years back. He is the drummer on this and was the nicest man. He has set a standard for so many. This song kills!!
