Hi & thank you for your entertaining videos! You could sew on the snaps using a sewing machine - similar to sewing on a button. Zig zag stitch with zero stitch length. Sew between 2 holes at once, or 1 hole & outside (as you did). Begin each time using the hand wheel to check/correct stitch width & needle placement. Then sew a few stitches at normal speed. Cut thread & move to next hole/s. Repeat until done. You can also use a "button foot" on sewing machine - or clear sticky tape - to hold the snap/button in place while sewing.
hand sewing on metal snaps? i would have used the 4 piece variant that sandwiches the fabric. you do need a special tool to attach them but it takes almost no time to do so and is a big time saver if you do sewing projects. also using shorter thread and knotting more on when it gets too short stops most of the problems with tangling up on you like that. trying to work with more than an arms legnth of thread at a time is nearly impossible. you just try to position the knot as close to the last exit point in the fabric as possible, whither you tie off the thread and start a new one or tie more thread onto the current one is up to you. with so many kittens knotting it off frequently to deal with tiny claws may be useful regardless of thread length.

I have the same play mat for my cat. But instead of buttons I used double sided velcro strips - works just as well. My cat is almost 2 but she still loves playing in there every day!

Should have used snap on buttons. The buttons use pliers that only takes only a second to clip into place. And you get the buttons for free if you buy the pliers. Anyway, this a cool playground for cats. I might want to make one 🥺

Today, Kohaku and I spent the whole day in the cat room doing some DIY. She caught 8 insect that is a kind of small beetle in CATIO and brought them into the room and roared at them. All day long she was running around so energetically that Mugi had a vexed look on his face. For Mugi's sake, I can't wait to match the two kittens to Kohaku.
