- Today I dance the solo that always gave me nightmares - Aurora's act 1 variation from the ballet Sleeping Beauty. It is so technically difficult, and at the same time, you have to look like a young 16-year-old princess. It comes shortly after the Rose Adagio, so dancing onstage in the performance in context is even harder! But I love this role, so I decided to give it a go again. Enjoy!

Hi I'm Kathryn!
I am a former soloist with the New York City Ballet and Miami City Ballet. When I was a young student, I was always looking for insights into the ballet world and how to improve my dancing as well as beauty and lifestyle tips. Now that I am a professional, it is my turn to share.

You say you find this intimidating, but from the outside it looks like it fits you like glove. The musicality was stunning. I think this is my favourite of all the videos you've posted recently. Peter Martins was right - You are Aurora.
I really respect and look up to the fact that you don't just post footage that you think only showcases your assets, but footage of things that challenge you: this sort of confidence and poise really reflects into your dancing!

How do you remember to keep your upper body soft whilst stilling being strong everywhere else? It’s either I’m full soft or full strong..I can’t find a balance in between. Beautiful dancing ❤️❤️
I’m not a professional, but what I try to do is move my arms more with my back and breathe a lot. When you use your back instead of the shoulders they flow more, and your shoulders don’t get so tense.
Thank you! It’s just about telling the story and trying to be the princess while executing the steps. If you think too hard about being soft it doesn’t work!

Hi Katie! Would you ever consider doing a video on how to do "swan arms" correctly and beautifully? I've been trying to learn parts of the ballet by myself due to a lack of access to classes, but I find it never really looks convincing or delicate or anything it's supposed to look like. Thanks!

may I ask what shoes you are wearing?
could you possibly consider doing a swan lake themed pointe class?
Could you please do a video on how to remember combinations? I have ADD and even though I know how to move it's really difficult for me to remember combinations while I incorporate corrections. I get lost or just end up looking robotic. Back in the day I would just copy the other students but now with zoom classes it's hard to still fake it and have finally realized how much I relied on copying.

I have a question. Please answer me, anyone who has done ballet for years would really help me with this one!
I have never done gymnastics in my life or anything. I am currently 21 and I want to start ballet but I did some research and people mostly say that it's too late for me. It's sad for me that I will never get to preform on a stage and such, but I would really like to start learning and maybe reach the level of pointe shoes. Is it too late for me to learn ballet? I'll be 21 in August.

It’s never too late! If you want to start ballet then the only thing stopping you is yourself. I’ve been doing it for 10 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. And who’s to say you won’t perform on stage? You never know what could happen until you try. I say go for it, and enjoy every minute of it!❤️
